Hi folks, a few years ago, I followed my preference for Quad electrostatic speakers into headphone territory & now have Stax 'new' sr3, sr Lambda & sr 404 signature ear speakers. Would you, dear reader, be tempted into buying a pair of sr 407s if you had the three models I already have, and if so, why?

Hi This is my first post, I would appreciate opinions on why I have this issue. The link below is the Stax energizer using Lundahl PP TX that I built with a pro-bias circuit. The only change was I didn't use the Lundahl power transformer or the oil caps, I used a magnetically shielded toroid TX mounted on top of the cabinet and poly caps, I also installed the 4m700k resistor after the last cap. The bias volts are 575 d/c, here is the issue, when using my new 500 MK 11 headphones there is a plopping sound that starts in the left channel and then in the R channel, think of a dripping faucet in a cup of water, the L channel is about 60 cycles per minute and th…

  3. Hello Head-Case, It has been a long time since I've been active here but, I'm glad to be back for something special for us E-Stat enthusiasts! We are very happy to finally announce our new Headphone – INOX. For the very first time in Headphone history, a Consumer/Production Closed-Back Electrostatic Headphone. There is a lot to uncover and I will try my best to give a brief introduction about the technical aspects and details of this new Headphone. Over time in this Official Thread, I would love to go over the stories and details of the many aspects that have gone behind this development which is impossible to cover in this single post. But, for now - …

Now here is something fun... a new electrostatic set from Russia. I do read the Russian forums a bit and I've been following the semi-DIY stuff going on over there. Seeing that this one had matured I decided buy one. Here is the website for anybody interested: http://phenomenon.su/ I ordered it directly and this set was custom made for me. They have two versions available and I picked the Libratum as I prefer circular transducers. Cost was less than 2k$ with shipping here. As you might tell from the pics, the build quality is super impressive and makes most other headphones look like toys. I for one like the Russian utilitarian style where it is all a…

  7. I have two STAX energizers that need to be recapped & rebiased. Would someone please recommend a tech in the US who could do this work for a reasonable price?

I have the L700 MkII and I find the headband pressure too high. I wonder if the original L700 headband would lessen the pressure as the “arm” of the forks are a straight construction without the bend at the bottom in the MkII model. Any “swithers” between the too models heamdband ?

The alcantara pads on my workhorse HD800s are rotten and I'd love to replace them. Over the years I've always been able to buy spare parts directly from Sennheiser, but no distributor seems to carry them for shipping to the U.S. at the moment. I don't want to ruin these by putting aftermarket Beyerdynamic pads or whatever on them, I just want to pay Sennheiser an ugly markup for parts they apparently no longer want to keep in stock. Does anyone have a line on a real supplier for these?

  11. Hi y'all, I have a Stax SR-007A e-stat (with the blu-tac port mod) energized by a Stax SRM-T1S with the CCS mod running a pair of NOS US-made Tung-Sol 6SN7GTB tubes through angled socket adapters at 6.0 mA / tube section. The signal from my DAC (RME ADI-2) is being fed through custom-made balanced XLR cables and the energizer is powered by an Audioquest NRG-Z3 power cord. The system has been running fine for at least a year. Yesterday I removed the earpads for a routine cleaning of the driver (dusting off the dust covers, etc.), but after that the 007A developed what seems to be a ground loop in the right channel. The right driver started having this 60 Hz hum t…

Having owned a DCA Aeon Noire for a while the DCA Stealth got me interested. I like what Dan is trying to achieve, with the introduction of the Expanse I couldn’t resist the urge to buy another flagship. So I have an Expanse incoming, will be pairing it with a CFA2. I do not like the dicky naming of the products, minor gripe hopefully I’m happy with what the Expanse brings to the table being that I love what the Noire achieves at its price point. Will be updating with impressions when I’m ready, has anybody heard or owned a DCA Stealth or Expanse?

  13. Hi y'all, Having a bit of a conundrum with my Stax SR-007 Mk1 (S/N 71169) electrostatic earspeaker. As reported in another HC thread of mine (decided to start a new one here because this was getting quite off-topic there), the right driver's inner dust cover somehow got torn and hence some pretty serious mold damage took place inside. As a result, a rather severe channel imbalance ensued. Opening up the driver for cleaning and assessing the extent of the damage revealed that the diaphragm coating got affected. After having a look at the Japanese Stax repair page (with the help of Google Translate), I learned that Any international inquiry regarding servi…

Stax D-10 amp. Are the lithium ion batteries user replaceable and avaiable for purchase ?

  15. I have 3 sets of Sennheisers (actually more, but 3 are the subject here.) 2004 650s (long suffering, still working), 20?? 580s (the cans I use the most) and some 800s I just got from aimless1. I have a silly collection of amps: 2004 GLite Mk I, HeadRoom Balanced Desktop and the HR Millet(t) Hybrid I've mentioned recently. The first and third are SE, the middle one is dual XLR balanced. My problem is that WRT balanced headphone amps, the world has gone 4 pin XLR. I understand why. It's a less annoying arrangement. There's no shortage of Senn-to-4pin XLR cables, at all price points. There are fuck-all options for dual XLR ones. I have looked into dual (male) 3 pin…

  16. So I bought a lot of modified headphones on ebay, SR-Lambda Signature, SR-007Mk2 and SR-009. They looked to be in rough condition so I thought, worst case I'll tinker with them and have some more spare parts for my stock. Now... the first two units were bad... really bad but I fully rebuilt them from my stock of spare parts. Now I've been fixing up lost cause headphones for 20 years but still, these were the worst I've ever seen. Missing parts everywhere and utterly retarded ways of "improving" them by making everything worse. Now, I had left the 009's in their box until this morning and wow... just wow... So what are we looking at, these are t…

  18. Hello! I am a new member of the forum. I am not a native English speaker. Hope you can understand my words. Are electrostatic headphones suitable for listening to rock and some metal music? I like listening to some bands like Lacirmosa, Metillac, Green Days, and The offspring. I also like listening to Haggard, Within Temptation, Nightwish, and some jap-rock. I want the headphone to have a good performance on vocals, especially the female vocals. I don't want the human vocals to be too far away or too thin. The bass is not the shortboard. The high pitch should not be too bright. Or I think I should use high here not high pitch. My English is very poor. 😢😢😢 I…

  19. Sadly, I have a noisy family. No but seriously they are real noisy. I listen currently to SR-007A Mk2 with KGST, but need a pair of closed back non-stats, which will be run off my PureBipolar. I have collected names, and have so far Focus Stellia or ZMF Verite Closed or Kennerton Rognir. A shop some hours away has 2/3 of these in stock. The question really is, for a stat devotee listening to acoustic music (classical and jazz) will any of these be acceptable in the aim to help me forget my family? Or will they all make me run screaming from the house instead?

Hi guys! I have a question if anyone can advice and help me out? I'm listening mostly to electronic music, House, Progressive House, Tech House... I have amplifier / dac Gustard A20H, link bellow: I think that Amp Dac is good enough, I dont know, Im not audiophile and expert. I just want to upgrade my setup, especialy headphones. I own headphones Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250ohm. When changed Lambskin thick earpads instead original suede to DT 770, I got better tamed highs and better bass / subbass. I was really enjoying on this setup, but I wanted more. DT 770 costs 130€, and I bought a Denon AH-D7200 headphones with hope that they would so…

I posted a Chinese version of this article several months ago and now I translated it and put it here. I guess some people here will be interested. I hope you like it. Actually I have some more articles like this pending but I just don't have the time to write it up. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It all started about a year ago that a second hand sr-omega popped up in the local community. From time to time omegas show up on markets around the world but this one is different: an omega with 007 drivers installed. When the drivers are replaced, such omega drops its …

  22. So I've had these headphones for a bit and have used them with my laptop for a while, and I notice that in quiet songs especially there'll be crackles and static noises far too often for me to like. I use these while connected to my phone, however, and I have no static issues at all. My previous headphones attached to the laptop didn't have any issues either. Do I just have a defective pair of headphones? And if so, can I do anything about it? (They're refurbished so idk if that matters or not)Rufus MapQuest UpToDate

When I heard these were being released I just had to get a set to see if they matched the supreme crap that the original was. Now after some delays I picked the set up from the postoffice. This first post will focus mostly on the amp, the headphones will be taken apart at a later date. I have been listening to them for a few hours now so some quick impressions are in order though. Same build quality as we've come to expect from Hifiman...i.e. absolute fucking trash. First off, the phones stink badly. These are 1500$ on their own so much like the Shangri-La JR... everything is nasty synthetic crap. Same cable as the Shangri-La and Jr. use which is c…
