I've had my eye on these for the last year or so but waiting for a cheap set to come up. There are three versions they sell and I found the cheapest one for sale, brand new in the box with the transformer adapter. I'll take some pics of the system tomorrow (shortest day of the year here so... yeah not great for photos) but I've at least a pic of the headphones and the internals of the transformer box. Here they are and I quite like the looks and the build quality. They are using mini XLR's which is not ok but questionable connector choices are a theme here. The stock cable is beyond crap (more on that tomorrow) so I'm using a Stax PC-OCC off my RR-1's. Th…

Has anyone heard both the Aeon and Ether flow (closed back)? I have a pair of Aeon closed backs that I enjoy when I need to have closed headphones. I am thinking of trying the Ether flow since hoping it might be a bit more open sounding and neutral.

Hi All, I would like to raise the issue on human ageing, with the special focus on the ageing of human hearing and the use of TOTL headphone gear, i.e. headphones for more than 2,000 Euros, e.g. STAX headphones for 5,000 Euros and headphone amplifiers within the same region (5,000 Euros). But this does not focus at Stax only, of course, as there are so many extremely expensive headphones (electrostatic, magnetostatic, dynamic) in the market right now. I don't know how old you are, of course all ages are represented here at the forum. But I also find old headphone veterans, here, who have been active in the scenery since the 1990's or 1980's. BTW, I started…

Hi Everyone I am a new guy to electrostatic headphone world. I have just bought a stax headphone. However, I hear some hum noise on one of my driver. I wonder whether there is something wrong with the headphone or not. I did some research and noticed that we will hear hum noise for all electrostatic headphone during winter time or cold weather. Is it right? thanks

Does anybody else not give a flying fuck that it sounds “artificial?” I’ve had Max for a while (and I adore them), but my shitty Ankers that I used for exercise gave up the ghost (they were good enough until they didn’t work anymore), so I bought a pair of AirPods Pro (my backup “Letscom” weren’t doing it for me). This pair had the non-spatial firmware out of the box. Took a day for it to update (Apple seriously needs to fix the firmware update situation). Spatial on the Pro sounds nothing like “natural.” It sounds fucking great on the Esther Phillips I’m currently listening to, though. I could listen to my JH on the go, but then I have to deal with a cable, and wha…

Does anyone know where to purchase a replacement elastic band for the Stax 007? Ideally same brown color. I have a larger head and the stock elastic is too tight, ideally would be great to have a looser fit. The rest of the fit is Ok the earcups seals pretty good but not as good as my 009. Thank you https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ns4Td8NJxBoQq_3J8vfCkfhP8J5gyJY_/view?usp=sharing

"Sennheiser announced on Tuesday it’s looking for a new partner to buy its consumer audio business, which consists of headphones and soundbars. It’s going to shift its focus entirely to professional audio, including its Neumann microphone division and what Sennheiser calls business communications." Source: https://www.theverge.com/2021/2/16/22285497/sennheiser-investors-selling-consumer-headphones-soundbars-business This is pretty sad. Makes sense why Axel Grell left now. We haven't seen any really new high-end product from them since the HD-820, and it sounds like we shouldn't expect anything else to be forthcoming. The HD600/650 and HD800/S are my two f…

Hello, I have a vintage pair of Realistic PRO-50 headphones which I believe are the same as the AKG K250 600 ohm. (Made for Radio Shack by AKG.) They sound fine except for a very poor bass response. If I play them through either a software or hardware equalizer with the base controls pushed up high I do get a better bass response. I am using them with a Schiit Magni 3 amplifier set on the high position. I also get the same results with other headphone amps. Is this normal for this headphone? Are there any modifications to the headphones that I can make to improve the bass response? Many thanks in advance for any help.

My late 90's RS-1, which is my absolute favorite headphones (I don't know what words to use; is it a trouser or a pair; if anybody should know it should be me) in the world, need to be fixed. I think it's just a solder joint that became brittle. They have been like this for a while, but I could sort of nudge them. I called Grado about replacing the cable, and the woman (I assume a Grado relative, given her accent) could not promise that the drivers would't be replaced. In fact, she immediately mentioned that the drivers would be replaced, and I had to question her on that. The drivers have been blown into plenty of times. It's that sort of thing. Like a Rolex or …

I sold my HD650s a little while ago and now I kind of regret it. I'm thinking of picking up another pair of 650s or 6XXs, but there are rumors that the newer ones that are assembled in Romania are somewhat different than the made-in-Ireland sets. However, Sennheiser has stated on the Drop website in this post: They also said in this post: Does anyone have any direct experience comparing older and newer HD650s and/or HD6XXs?

There was the original Abyss, then Abyss Phi, then Phi CC, and now Abyss Phi TC... I don't know what came over me, but the 10% Black Friday sale didn't help. 1208191031_HDR by drjlo2, on Flickr

Hi guys, during the last five years, so many new TOTL headphones appeared in the market that I got totally lost how they compare. Because every brand claims that its own TOTL headphone is the best of the world. But also reviewers and people from the forums claim very different views. This is of course quite normal and maybe opening this thread might be very silly as things might have been said thousands of times already here. However, as a newbie on this forum I did not find real impressions especially on the HifiMan SUSVARA, especially when compared to STAX. And in addition to the headphones themselves, there is this multiple-headphone amplifier discu…

I was lucky enough to get some new K240's for Christmas this year. I have owned a pair of Hifiman HE 4xx's for a couple of years now and recently bought a set of Sennheiser HD569 closed back headphones for when the wife is watching movies a little too loud. I also have a pair of Samson SR850's which seem to be modeled after the K240's so I really wanted to try the real thing. I will have to admit that I wasn't real impressed by the 240's at first. The first amplifier that I hooked them to was my old Realistic SA-150 integrated amp. They really highlighted the deficiencies of that amp with the highs rolled off and a muffled sound like cheap bass heavy headphones. …

Hello all! I am an engineer and a big fan of perfect audio, especially on my headphones. Some time ago, I bought the AKG k612 headphones and I love them. Perfect and clean audio, very open scene and the design! Worth every $ I spent on it. However, the one problem I found is that I am concerned about the headbands distortion, when not using it and hanging on headphone hanger. That's why (as an engineer) I started thinking of the solution, how to store my k612 and be calm about headbands. I've made my headphone stand (so I don't need to hang k612) and I want to share it with the world. However I would like to meet the premium look of the k612, it is quite challenging thoug…

As a group of veteran audiophiles who have repeatedly espoused the sentiment that "end-game is the point of the game", I'm curious what that actually looks like. What air vibrators consistently end up strapped to your noggin? Or have you all abandoned headphones in favor of speakers and whiskey?
