Hi so i am making my own headphones, and i recently bought a 2.1 stereo surround sound amplifier. It has outputs for left, right and sub. My dilemma is this: should i try to do bridged mono to connect the sub output to the right output, and then seperately with the left outputs(and if so how) or should i split the sub and put two speakers in each side(and if so what is a good source for drivers. Thanks!

Just pick up a pair of RS1 that looked a little different one of the drivers appear to be pinkish the other white. They were bought of the original owner and was never repaired. They have the serial number 162 and was purchased around 2004-2005. Anyone know anything about grado using different drivers on the same pair?

http://www.sonicsense.com/blog I tried some different comparisons on this site. The AKG K702 vs Sennheiser HD650 was definitely revealing. They use a you-tube like linkand they play excerpts of the reference track and the headphone reproduction as recorded from their dummy head alternately. The 3 I listened to were The AKG K702 vs Sennheiser HD650, The Ultrasone ED8 vs Fostex TH900, and The AKG K812 vs Beyerdynamic T1 vs Ultrasone ED10 vs Sennheiser HD800. As I was using one of my HD600's that was connected to my computer, I found that in the first one the HD650 part sounded quite noticeably laid back compared to the reference portion of the compar…

Hi all! I wish to gift a headphone to my brother. He is very much fond of listening to music and play a lot of games. So I’m looking for a headphone that do great in both and price less than $300. One of my friends suggested Shure SRH440 headphone. How is its functionality? Does anyone have any other opinions out there? I would be glad to hear your recommendations! I’m planning to buy it from <advertisement deleted>

So all the old stuff about these is buried in the Stax thread but since I just bought a lightly used set of KS-M3 and M10 it was perhaps time to give them their own thread. So I owned both the H1 and H2...and both were terrible. Truly awful but there are still people out there claiming the H3's are really good so...I was curious. I got the combo at a nice enough price so why not. Kevin thinks I'm nuts for buying a third one of these but hey... I guess he's right. The amp will await inspection but I connected the phones to the Carbon CC for a listen. Ok...a small spoiler here...they aren't good. Like at all and more of a shame on other electrostatics... …

These will be used almost exclusively for gaming. I am much more concerned with comfort than I am with quality. If I had to rank them myself from the research I've done.... Comfort: 1) MA900 2) Ultrasone 3) DT990 4) Fidelio X1 Quality: 1) Fidelio X1 2) DT990 3) Ultrasone 4) MA900 Price: $230 Fiedlio X1 $215 MA900 $150 DT990 $90 Ultrasone I need a very light clamp. Don't really care much about bass, more about mids. As I read that's what is important for gaming. My budget is about $150 otherwise I would have probably bought the MA900's already. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hello, Just picked up a set of HD600's. Did a solid hour long listening session comparing them to HD650's off an obnoxious $4500 McIntosh something or other CD player (just to be on the safe side, lol) at my local stereo shop.. Money no object, greatly preferred the 600's. Felt like the 650 simply added a driver with a bigger motor and some supporting mods, giving it more presence but overly so, making the finer details of the 600's appear warmed over. I will be predominately listening to classical, which was the genre where the major differences really made themselves known in my demo session. Felt like the 650's were more a money grab than anything else....anyway…

Hi guys, I've got an AKG K1000 at Alex. I bought it second hand from HeadFi, but unfortunatelt one of the drivers is not working properly. So I'll need to find a new pair of drivers! Any idea whether AKG can still provide them? I've tried mailing them, no response yet. I'll give them a call later this week, but if you guys can confirm they don't have it in stock anymore, I won't bother and save the telephone costs (I live in the Netherlands). One other guy at AKG told me I would need new printed boards as well, if I own an older system. Anyone heard about this?? Thanks for the help, guys! PS: Talked to Craig and he's working on a hybrid class a amp for the K1…

Until now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=270187476795&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=017 Seller hasn't responded to my question about what the serial number is, and the fact that he probably stole those pics. Unless he happens to be a Head-Fi member. Given the fact that the bidders list is private, smells like a scam to me. Might as well be payment only by Western Union.

I have been thinking about trying some new headphones out. I tend to like the senns, particularly the hd600. I have Reks modded grado sr-80's and I am very happy with that sound, especially the non-sibilant treble. I also very much like the senn 595/ 120 ohm for its grado like speed and dynamics. The one I am wondering about is the MS2i but I have never liked the sr-325 this headphone is based on. But in a short listen I definitely liked the MS2. I really like the grado sound from the mids down. But the treble can often be to harsh and sometimes sibilant as well. I am open to suggestions for headphones, in general .... and also, modding suggestions for the current grado l…

I got really tempted when the Focal Utopia and Elear price reduction was announced a week or so ago. I finally pulled the trigger and bought a pair of Elear after coming across the free headphone stand deal at headphones.com (their customer service is first rate so far by the way). Unfortunately my orders of headphone plugs and wire have not arrived so I am stuck with the 4m long, singe-ended Focal standard issue cable at the moment. My Dynalo is not cased yet so I had to make do with my DIYZONE Iris OTL headphone amp.

Recently I borrowed HD580 (NOS) from my friend. I hook it up to the meager Glite and Pico DAC. The more I listen to it, the more I prefer it to my KGSS/O2 Mk2+Stello. I have to admit that I'm the stat mafia ever since I left dynamic. I have HF2 which is gathering dust now, I sold my K701 but this is something I absolutely can live with albeit not as great as stats...... Does anyone here thinks that these measly HD580 is up to notch with the big boys ? Or my taste in SQ has taken a step backwards? I mean as of now and switching back between the O2, there's not way of differences there. :palm: Edit : I used to borrow HD650 from the same guy. boring. didn't like it. I…

Hi All, Firstly, the hard part............. My name's Steve, I'm 50, and I Know Nothing About HiFI. There, I said it, I admit it wasn't easy, but I feel better for getting it out in the open . I've had a set of HD650's for over 15 years - which I really like, but I've recently started to think they're sounding a bit tired. They get used every day, and for long periods at weekends and holidays. They are coupled to an original Schiit Asgard amp (serial number somewhere in the 700's), and a Bifrost DAC from the same period. They are connected via optical cable to my computer, and fed flacs. I listen to all types of music - (both country and western - j/…

I just received a set of HD650s. "Wow" is all I can say. That being said, I don't think I've read anything positive about the cables on these things, so the idea that the sound could get even better has me salivating. What do you guys consider the best balanced replacement cable for these?

Ok, I know this is probably a "personal preference" type thing, but I am looking to buy my first real pair of headphones sometime soon. I have always used IEMs and am currently using se530's, which I love, it is just too hard to keep taking them and back out everytime someone at work (or at home) comes over to talk about something. I don't have a budget, but I'd probably try to stay in the 200$ or below range. I'll be using iPod->portaphile/pico or macbook pro->pico as a source. I listen to a huge range of music, but love live music and want to feel like I am on stage with them So.. to my question.. what are the differences in sound between the grado sr60/80/…

Two years ago, Sennheiser sold, through Meier Audio, around twenty brand new HE90 units. After several buyers mentioned they had problems (because they used the HE90 on other amps than the Sennheiser HEV90 amp), Sennheiser agreed to modify a bit the headphones so that they can work on any electrostatic amp on the market (because, if I understood correctly, the HEV90 amp had a very different bias than most of other current electrostatic amps). Does anybody know exactly what were the modifications made by Sennheiser at this new batch of Orpheus headphones?

...brand new HD595. The headband ony my HD580 cracked. It was one of those refurbs that I got off amazon for really cheap. Sennheiser customer service was super nice the entire time on the phone- I spoke to two really helpful reps. Took them about 2 weeks to get them here. Now I'm sort of confused what to do, and it doesn't help that I just opened the parcel now, and I'm a little drunk. I was using the HD580 for late night TV and DVD watching on my laptop. So now I'm sort of in a pizzle. I could call up Sennheiser and -ask them why they replaced my Hd580 with a 595 -keep the 595 -ask for a 600, since it seems the 580 is done for good (this is what the re…

I'm trying to help a friend of mine out who is new to the head-fi world. Heh, yes, I've already warned him with a laugh about his wallet but we'll keep this clean for now. I'm a bit out of the loop so I need some help to help him. So far the cans he's looked at are: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-518-Headphones-Black/dp/B0042A68R8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1327888696&sr=1-1 http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SRH750-DJ-Headphones-Black/dp/B002PAQYK8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327888558&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-280-Pro-Headphones/dp/B000065BPB/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1 http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD25-1-II-Cl…

After listening to 340's for about 30 minutes the top part of my right ear begins to hurt then it becomes unbearable, I also feel the clamp is too strong on my head. I changed the elastics that did not help, I took off the plastic part and just hooked the elastics over the part of plastic used to go over and that did not really work. These have the velour pads and I have a big noggin. I am probably going to try different pads but wondered if any one had any suggestions before going this route or should I just cut the tops of my ears off?
