I was leafing through some mags at the central library a few days ago when I saw a headphone review in one of the British mags. I had my camera with me so I snapped pictures of the more interesting reviews; these being the Ultrasone 750, Denon D5000, and Grado RS-2. Download, enjoy, have fun.

Hi all! I wish to gift a headphone to my brother. He is very much fond of listening to music and play a lot of games. So I’m looking for a headphone that do great in both and price less than $300. One of my friends suggested Shure SRH440 headphone. How is its functionality? Does anyone have any other opinions out there? I would be glad to hear your recommendations! Well as this ain't head-fi (and all that means), I would assume one would be able to run a thread like this without having the hate brought down from the sky. Plus, roasting stuff is always fun so... 1. Ultrasone Edition 10. ~$3500(?). The most repulsive >$100 headphone I've ever heard, period. Couldn't stand more than 20 seconds of it. 2. Pioneer SE-Master1. ~$2500. Artificially boosted, distorted bass that interferes with the midrange and a tizzy, metallic top end sums it up quite nicely. I bought a pair of physically very good condition K340's from head-fi a while back, and found that the left driver was not working properly - the electrostatic element wasn't doing anything. I contacted AKG who informed me that they can repair the K340, and charge a flat fee of $80 for any electrical work. So, I sent off my cans and today, true to their word, they called me to inform me that the would completely replace both drivers for the said flat fee if I wanted to go ahead, and would return them tomorrow FedEx Express! I'm very excited! Any suggestions for a K340 noob?

I have been trying to score a pair of HD580's recently and have noticed that for the prices I have been receiving I can almost get a pair of HD600's. I found one pair for 210 with a Audigon rating of 8/10 and another pair for 250 with same rating plus a Red Clou cable upgrade. the plan is to occasionaly use them with Headamp AE2 and mainly at home with Onkyo reciever for movies late night. My current stock of headphones, in order of preference, is Darth Beyers V2/K501, K24P, PX100, KSC75, UR/40 The stock DBs were just the end-all for me for a while, but I'd been lying to myself; they were compared to HD280s and KSC75s. I figured I could use some "opposite" headphones so grabbed some used K501s, and was really impressed at everything they did besides bass. The stock DBs were definitely way too bass heavy and the highs just... not there. I tried the gel pads and they made them more tolerable (bass tamer, more highs/mids), but something's still weird about it. So all the old stuff about these is buried in the Stax thread but since I just bought a lightly used set of KS-M3 and M10 it was perhaps time to give them their own thread. So I owned both the H1 and H2...and both were terrible. Truly awful but there are still people out there claiming the H3's are really good so...I was curious. Yuck, its like the soundstage collapsed or something...I much prefer the bowls in all aspects (don't hurt me please). Anyways, I'm really quite impressed with the RS1s after running the whole gamut of commonly recommended headphones on HF. Weird thing is, I use to own a pair of SR225s and they became extremely uncomfortable after 30 minutes, but the RS1s I can wear for any length of time without my ears throbbing. I'd say they're more comfortable than my pair of HD580s because of less clamping force and possibly due to the weight differential. So I bought a lot of modified headphones on ebay, SR-Lambda Signature, SR-007Mk2 and SR-009. They looked to be in rough condition so I thought, worst case I'll tinker with them and have some more spare parts for my stock. Well my new woody SR-200's arrived today (thanks again Juan). So far I'm pleasantly surprised, they have a pretty warm sonic signature and have much more bass than I was expecting. Here's a few pics (note these do not have hp1000 drivers):

I was able to listen to both of them for about 30 minutes and I thought they both sounded good. I think they are both in a similar league of headphone, being the best in each category. They are also around the same price. I guess the HD800 has an advantage of having more amplifiers available to be used with it. Has anybody had to chance to listen to both? What are your impressions as far as detail, being musical, or other preferences? I'm leaning towards the HD800, can anybody convince be that the Stax are better.

This is probably not the appropriate topic as it's not a picture of my rig, but I didn't want to create a separate thread for this... and it's a picture of a headphone after all. What is you guys' opinion on this, aesthetics alone? I'm a (soon to be) designer and this is my graduation project – the first prototype is going to be built soon. It's more of a mass market product rather than an audiophile oriented thing though, so take that as you will.

Hi guys, I had a Sennheiser HD595 for many years and that was an okay headphone and I've used it for 8 maybe close to 10 years now, but now that I'm beginning to learn musical instruments and starting to appreciate music for fully, I'm in the market for a set of new headphone and was hoping if anyone could perhaps point me in the right direction or better yet, give me a few recommendations. The headphone's usage will be primarily for home listening. Whether you own an HP-2, L3000, R10, a K1000, or some other spendy OOP can, I'd like to know your thoughts. Do you ever think that someday a can will be produced that will do everything your can does, but better, and at a decent price, causing the market value of your can to plummet? Or do you think your particular can will always command a premium in the marketplace?

These East Indian Rosewood woody Grado 225s were the biggest and nicest surprise for me at CanJam bar none. Who knew Nate could not only build nice cables and amps, but is more than pretty handy with a lathe? The pics, as often happens, don't do them justice, but I'm loving the looks, and, lucky me, they also sound good. Thanks again Nate and Dan.

New to this forum so I am prob making a huge mistake in starting a thread already. If I did then please forgive me. I cant find a place to talk about these so I figured I would post here. Some bass head cans with two plugs out with great balance and good soundstage. Interested in hearing peoples thoughts about them if they have heard of them or are curious.

Hi Guys, I'm antonyfirst. Since before end 2006 my Headfi account didn't even exist, I'll probably change my name to Tony. A friend of mine is deciding wether to balance his L3000 or not. Knowing how much better the Sennhesiser HD600 and HD650 become in balanced mode, I am very curious about what improvements can benefit the L3000. A earphones that can disassemble any part, how about this?

I got my cans and my amp back yesterday. The ps-1's are recabled with a custom beryillium copper alloy cable, and the rs-1's are recabled with a moon audio black dragon. The amps 1/4" neutrik was replaced with a 4-pin xlr and some of the wiring was redone. My initial impressions are that the sound is more open and 3d. The bass has become bloated, and the overall sound is less refined. I prefer the ps-1's over the rs-1's currently because of their added refinement and better sound stage, but the rs-1 midrange does have its moments. Biggie.
