A week or two ago I snagged a used GS-1 from HF (from doobooloo). It arrived and I let it adjust to room temp before firing up, and all seemed well until the left channel cut out almost completely. Flipping the high/low gain switch seemed to almost fix it. I contacted doobooloo and he said that it was a common problem with some GS-1's with the DACT stepped attenuator, and that popping the lid and reseating the molex-like connector for the left channel at the DACT SA would fix it. It did... for about 10 days. I noticed it again today, and so I popped the lid and reseated again. The molex connector grips firmly and none of the pins seem to have any play. So... is the…

  2. everything considered should be under $150... preferably under $100 to buy or build. some amps of up to $300 in cost to build or buy may be considered if TRULLY worth the extra dough... but try to keep the recomendations under the first list of requirements. also, list what phones and IEMs the amps pair well with.

I'm thinking about upgrading my headphone amp, and since I'm using my Nuforce Icon for headphones right now I might as well upgrade my speaker amp at the same time. I've heard good things about the 840A, but not much about its headphone amp. Anyone have any experience?

Hi all, I just ordered my first tube amp. I have alway been a solid state guy, and was wondering what all this hype is about. I have a new pair of AKG K701 headphones, and figured that a headphone amp might be a good place to start. So I ordered a WooAudio WA6. Here is a link. http://www.wooaudio.com/products/wa6.html. I won't get the amp for about 7 more days, and am just curious if people can explain to me the differences I might be hearing over solid state. If nothing else I am really going to love the glow. People tell me that tubes are more laid back than transistors. Does this mean I will hear a more smoothed over detail in the sound? They also say that tubes don't …

  6. Since i finally registered, i thought i might as well enquire, can't hurt; Very recently finished building my SRX Plus, tip top on all mats minus the pot which is a TKD CP2500, gets a bit too steep from there What that sounds like, most of you already know, so will skip this part. Am currently pairing it with a DIY DAC that's based on an old dual PCM-63(P) Elektor magazine diagram that i've beefed up considerably. DAC as is now has great punch, bit of pompous a character if i might put it thus and is rather partial towards its lows/mid-lows; what you want as a source when pairing with an electrostatic amp and aiming for a balanced system. Dances circles ar…

I want a seperate volume dial for the Aleph, at the minute its run off the second set of pre-outs on the NAD. Means I have to fanny around with the switchbox and I'd like rid of that irritation. Cheapest pre-amp i've spotted is the little pro-ject box at

I have some experience with the DIY. This project looks quite easy and using cheap parts ( that is important, cause i am used to burn them a lot lol). But do you think the Amp will perform better in balanced configuration. I have HD650 and will use balanced source.

What do you guys think about these 2 amps coming out soon? Not much info on them. Basically, i'm wondering if anyone can give some insight about the quality of their products and whether these 2 new amps will be worth checking out.

OMG! OMG! I just got my "PimplePopper Super Micro Mini Xtrasmall" portable amp and my "Boil Buds" headphone buds. It's the best I have ever heard. It's even better than the Sony ear buds. I delivered a lot of newspapers to afford this. My mom says I should have put the money aside for colledge. I told her that I am only 28 years old and have plenty of time to save for that. Right now I am in heaven. After break in I will give a 150 page review on both items.

  15. Hi! i would like to share my work with you. I made an dynalo amp powered by grlv power supply and a pcm1794a/cm6631a dac. Everything is totaly made by me. I also designed the pcb nd ordered it from JLCPCB. Amp offset voltage stays at max +-1mV and it is totally silent. Case is DOUK AUDIO. pictures: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a6cbGFpN6s5EadR8DA_lb21ZFwOwzK4R?usp=sharing

Hi there, I've got a strange and somehow annoying problem with my STAX SRM-1 / MK-2 (B Series). Sometimes, in about 3 to 4 cases out of 10 after switching it on in an cold state, I hear a strange clicking / buzzing noise on my Lambda on the left channel only. It's definitely faster or more often to be directly related to 50hz AC noise problems and it sounds more like a "ticktickticktick" kind of noise. This noise doesn't change if I make the amp louder and if it occurs, it's stays for about half an hour and slowly fades out, until the amp is heated up regardless of switching the amp on and off. Sometimes I also get a very distorted left channel which can happen anyt…

  21. I was wondering if anyone knew the going rate for a used ARC PH3 phonostage in a good condition? I've been thinking of selling it and replacing it with a solid state phonostage since it's not exactly the quietest phonostage. I'm wondering if I can resolve some of the noise issue by replacing the tubes, but I know very little about the design of PH3 and 6922 tubes it uses. EDIT - I've been looking on A'Gon, but haven't seen any PH3 on there of late.

Info and internal pics of the preamp: spam deleted What do you think? Price is rumoured to be around 3k usd. PS: They also did a "golden edition": spam deleted

I noticed on Headamps website that the new version of the Aristaeus includes numerous improvements in parts and build quality. Has anyone here heard a V1 and V2, as to make any comparison. What parts have been changed and such? Justin or maybe the denizen electrostatic gurus. Thanks, Gary.
