Hey guys, Do you have any ideas/recommendations/links to a nice, sturdy, protective case for my hp2's to store when not in use? I searched and saw what postjack used, a quantary camera case, but seemed a bit bulky and overkill. Though it looked nice, and you could cut out the foam. I saw something like this on HF in the pic below, up top: That seems to fit it perfectly, and not be as tall as the one postjack used.

This cable has great tonal balance, outstanding depth and sounds way better than stock or higher-grade USB cables Music Lovers - News - Transparent Audio Introduces High-Performance USB Cable - San Francisco Home Theater, High End Audio & Video, Custom Installations, HiFi, Stereos As a bonus this over priced piece of high end audio nonsense comes complete with the requisite glowing recommendation from Art Dudley, one of the high end gods, on pages 43 & 45 of the January 2010 edition of "Stereophile". Unfortunately hip waders are NOT included.

  4. After months of having what seemed like every conceivable roadblock, I officially am rocking vinyl again. Fuck yeah! A Pro-Ject RM-5 with hopelessly cool carbon fiber tonearm, Denon DL-103, and Monolithic PS-1 w/ HC-1 PSU. It's dead sexy, so getting to finally listen to all the records I've bought in the last few months is that much better! Here are some more pics: You can't really see it at all but the anti-skating weight just hangs on a little string, it's really cool. I'll try to get a better pic sometime. Obligatory action shot: Fuck yeah!!! So I'm pretty happy that something I've bought actually works for once! I'm relaxing to a 2…

Here is a link to Vinnie's site: Products > Black Lightning - Red Wine Audio Any thoughts on whether this is a good product and priced right. I tend to think that the RWA gear is way overpriced for what you get.

umm i just got some carbon/steel/corian pads from mike wolff for my minidac. placebo, snakeoil or not, i don't know, but they seem to quiet down the background a bit, and the sibilance seems to be weaker now.

http://www.kabusa.com/wirewin.htm I know a few DIY folks around here are fans of the Mogami cables. While browsing the KAB site I saw this. Not sure how long he has been doing it, but it looks like good cables at a good price, if all of one's DIY friends are busy with other projects. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So basically desk space is getting to be a problem. I realized that when I have my monitor on top of my CDP, it does deaden the music a bit to my ears, so now it is in the back corner of the desk on top of some old books and it is hard to read. So I want to get some kind of floor standing rack to accommodate a 17" wide, 12" deep cdp, a PPX3, a future amp, and possibly, if I can get a stable enough stand, room at the top for my TT (17"w, 13"d). Anyone have any good recommendations for component stands on the cheap? I was thinking of going with Boltz since I enjoy my CD rack, and they would match, but goddamnit I don't want to pay $600 for a component stand. I'm hoping …

  10. I'm trying to run the sound from my set top box to my home theater receiver. I'd like to use the receiver's digital optical input so I get 5.1 (it's the only input my receiver has that will allow this. My set top box has an optical output, so it should be easy. I ordered a digital optical cable from Monoprice. Today I tried to connect them. The connectors go into the socket, but won't stay in place. I see no locking mechanism, which seems pretty strange to me. I must be doing something wrong as everybody would have thrown out optical digital a long time ago if the physical connections were this fragile. Can anybody tell me what the trick is to use connect this cab…

I need a pair of standard RCAs, 2M length. I prefer copper vs. silver. I want something shielded and with decent strain relief. This is to go between my source (Adcom) and amp (Gilmore Lite), it is arguably the most important single connection in the house. I have used Kimber products extensively in the past, and I've been very happy with then. Unfortunately, they completely lack strain relief and are rather fragile. I'd like to keep my budget under $100. Suggestions?

Does anyone have an opinion of his stuff? He seems to like making Ipod docks and mini to minis, but he sells some pretty expensive stuff. Can it really be worth it or even half as good as the other place says? http://www.aloaudio.com/multiarray/MA%20mini.html wow.... $200 mini to mini FTL.... *glares at GrandEnigma*

While reading the new July issue of Stereophile, I came across a good article on HDMI cables. The article is mostly about the cables one achilles heal... light clamping force. The article goes on to state that the problem is not just aggravating, but can lead to cable and or socket failure. If the cable connection is dislodged too many times it can cause the cable or socket to fail permanently. They go on to give a few cable solutions, namely cables with a tighter clamping force, cables with a PC type screw connector, and finally a clamp system for use on any HDMI cable. The latter is the solution that most interested me, since I will soon be putting my A/V system t…

Trying to get three sources (one optical only, two either opt or coax) into 1-2 opt/coax jacks (one of each). Been looking for TOSLINK switcher options including some cheapies like this, but then came across this. Admit having the coaxial option would be a plus too. Besides Googling, pretty unaware of the options. Don't care about the bling, just want 1s and 0s passed. And if the switcher would affect support (can't imagine it would if passive, but if active?), 88.2/96 is desired. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Anyone had good luck with anything? On a related note, that optical only source, a MacBook, may be used with a JHAudio 3a coming, so if I want to go 24-b…

So, my dad finalized his choice of source + speaker + amps (Accuphase DP-500 + B&W 803D + McIntosh MC402 Power amp/McIntosh C45 Pre-amp) so he needs a decent pair of speaker cables and xlr interconnects. My speaker guy is pushing Tara Labs and Cardas, but like spending $3000+ on wires is just too much imo. Any suggestions? or should I get cheap Blue Jeans for everything and upgrade later?

  20. Sorry for those who thought this was a review Anyways, the tax refund means I get to upgrade some components. With the addition of a DAC and an entry-level Monster power conditioner from the 'Gon, I'm going to try some power cables for real this time. Since I'll be buying two, I've narrowed my choices down to those in the thread title. I can get both for $118 shipped (from SignalCable and AudioAdvisor), so that means I'm looking for the better of the two. Try not to turn this thread into a huge mess, at least until the first 6 constructive posts or so ^ That's a sweet ass smiley!

http://www.machinadynamica.com/machina41.htm Of all the bullshit audio tweaks, this takes the cake. Of course, what do you expect from the makers of Magic Pebbles? "The Clever Little Clock is a small, battery-powered travel alarm clock that has been extensively modified using a number of highly-specialized techniques. The Clever Little Clock does not plug into the wall and has no direct or indirect influence on the "audio signal" per se -- not on house wiring, audio components, cables, interconnects, power cords or acoustic waves in the room. Yet the Clock has a pronounced affect on the sound heard by listeners in the room. In addition, any video systems in the hous…

Should I be worried about gain on TVCs? I don't think I listen that loudly, but certainly not at whisper-level either. I like to turn it up once in a while just to rock out and try to get some big dynamics going. More specifically, would a TVC have trouble with the output level of cartridges? The specific model that I might be interested in is the Bent Audio TVC, which uses a the S&B TX-102 transformer, and has up to 6db of gain.
