  1. Started by Nanoha,

Dear Head-Case, I have decided to begin exponentially increasing the size of my classical music collection. I have recently gained access to a collection of more than 25,000 classical CDs, tapes, and LPs. About 13,037 classical CDs as of this summer. I can take 3 recordings per day. Classical music has always been my first love when it came to music. One of my personal difficulties with acquiring classical CDs is that there are so many performances of every piece. Each performance is special and different; it is sometimes a huge headache to decide on which one to get. I would like to ask a huge favor of the Head-Case classical community. It is time for Head-Case cl…

  2. Ya rly. I am both unsurprised and waiting for him to say "Nah, just playing." Of course, many IDM fans (a group of conspiracy theorists if there ever was one, ask them about Boards of Canada some time) have long suspected this to be true. The only artist (besides Massive Attack) that Burial has collaborated with is Four Tet.

I bought Cosmogramma a few years ago and I noticed it is recorded at a deafening level. Other people seemed to have picked up on this as well. Does anyone else think his albums are too loud? I have to turn the volume to nearly zero just to listen to the CD. Some people think the clipping is intentional...

I have never listened to Stravinsky but want to. Some of my favorite composers are 20th century composers and Stravinsky is almost always spoken of with high regard. The problem is that I don't know where to start. What pieces do you like a lot or what do you think I should start with?

I've read that teaching is very important to her and that she didn't want to tour to finish school, but this is crazy coming weeks after the release of Illumination. The album has the band poised for some success considering it's their most accessible album IMO. I'll be curious to see what becomes of the band without her and Morten, and if she'll go on to do something on her own or with others. I figured it was worth mentioning here with how many spins Illumination has gotten recently. [edit] News from here [/edit]

  6. I think if I take some antacid beforehand, I can stomach some of genesis' earlier works. Which ones would you recommend? I'm trying to get over my anti-Phil Collins/Genesis attitude.

  7. I just started to mess around with the online radio stations with the SB3. Just curious what your favorite online radio stations are? I'm mostly interested in jazz, classical, blues and experimental rock but any and all suggestions are welcome.

  15. I hadn't seen this posted anywhere and thought it was worth mentioning... Sorry, lost the link to where I found it... Hopefully remastered means fixing the channel dropouts in "The Moor" and not brickwalled loud. Should be interesting. MA,YH is still my favorite Opeth album, but this could add new life to Still Life. That channel dropout really drives me nuts, as "The Moor" is my favorite track on that album.

I was watching a TV show in a scene a guy was giving a rare, collectible vinyl album to another. The album cover was brown or very dark orange with regularly distributed, about 5x5 or 6x6, white circles. In four of the circles, in the same line, starting next to the left rim, the word JAZZ spelled one single letter into one single circle. That's all, no names, no label, no artist mentioned or music sounding. I've tried looking for that cover on Discogs, Google, etc, but nothing came out. Any cues?

This was announced some time in June. They put up samples of the upcoming album on their Myspace page today: Porcupine Tree on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads The stream quality is not very good, but I enjoyed what I heard A review from a listening session can be found here. Also it sounds like a 5.1 DVD-A is confirmed, which more than likely means a high res stereo PCM track on the same disc.

Unlikely to be good news for users. Also quite closely coincident to the latest blow-up over them (or CBS, without their knowledge) allegedly giving user data to the RIAA.

I have decided that David Bowie is the next artist that I'm going to dive into after my past two dive-ins which were the far less famous Beggars Opera and Renaissance. Both of which were a while ago. Articulate for me, if you would be so willing, those of you who like a bit of Bowie, which of his CDs I shoudl begin my dive with. For an artist of his level of fame and influance I am basically, utterly blank listening slate, all I really know is Space Oddity and Starman. Thank you in advance.

Just a heads up for anyone who may not have realized the day was here... Goldfrapp - [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Seventh-Tree-Special-Goldfrapp/dp/B0011FXLCC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1204040010&sr=8-1]Seventh Tree[/ame] came out today. I've been lucky enough to have been listening to this for a few months now and all I can say is... While it's unmistakabley Goldfrapp, it's unlike anything they've done before. Alison's voice is a great as ever, and if anything, Will's stripped down soundscapes that are probably closest to folk provide an even better stage to showcase that voice. It's far closer to Felt Mountain than Black Cherry or Supern…

Does anyone else find all of the flaming lips albums mix just awful? I dig the music itself, but the levels are super high and don't seem to vary much for a lot of the songs. I love Yoshimi, but the bass/keyboard effect on some of the songs sounds like it is clipping (but I don't think it is actually clipping, it is just the sound intentionally). I can't understand why they do this to the music? Sound like teh suck on even cheap ibuds. Bleh. Are the 5.1 surround sound versions of the cd's any better?
