From his diary entry: So, King Crimson is in motion. This is a very different reformation to what has gone before: seven players, four English and three American, with three drummers. The Seven-Headed Beast of Crim is in Go! mode. The 8th incarnation of King Crimson will be Gavin Harrison, Bill Rieflin, Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto, Mel Collins, Jakko Jakszyk and Robert Fripp. Fripp says they should reappear about 1 year from now. In April I'm going to New Orleans to see Ministry at the House of Blues. I'm pretty pumped since I've loved Ministry since 6th grade and have never seen them live. Touring with Al & Co. are two bands called Meshuggah and Hemlock. I did a little research and Meshuggah last night on amazon, and they sound like a pretty badass math-metal band. Hemlock I know nothing of. I'd like some albums recommendations for Meshuggah and Hemlock if any of you have any (Dusty?). Thanks!

I am a big fan of vinyl. I still have my first records that I purchased as a little kid in the early '70s and they are still in decent shape. I still buy a lot of used albums and several new ones. Here lately, my luck with new albums has been pretty bad. I bought John Prine's last record and it sounds good. I pre-ordered the reissue of John Prine's first album and it sounds awful. I have the cd and it sounds good. I recently bought Charlie Crockett's latest album. I knew that it should sound great because on the radio and on tital it sounds like it was recorded at Sun Records 60 years ago. For those of us that are jazz fans this is an outstanding set. I've listened to the available mp3 on Laurie Peppers site about 2 dozen times. Here is a link for those that are interested My link The set was pro recorded at Ronnie Scotts during an 80s engagement and the band on the mp3 track is smoking hot. The transfer was done at 24/192 with a 4 cd set from CDbaby.com setting you back $27. There is a vinyl set for over $200 but I'm going to wait until I get the cd set in the mail to see if I need it. I just wish Laurie Pepper would release the 24/192 tracks of this set.

Worthy of picking up. Much improved instrument presentation and "crispiness" of the sound. Good re-master. Haven't listen to the bonus material, including the second CD of live at the Elyse'e. Will report back once I listen to everything.

So I'm looking at buying the Out of the Blue CD, but there seem to be 2 main editions, the regular 17-track release and the 30th anniversary with 3 bonus tracks released in 2007. Which one should I get and also – what is your favorite ELO album and song?

I've never been able to get last.fm to work with foobar when using ASIO4All. Basically last.fm starts up when foobar does, but I get an an error message similar to when another program has been opened before foobar. I'm sure the answer is simple, but google provides no solution. Computer as source folks, help me out?

I know nothing about classical music. I've picked up the following albums over the last few years at local record sales thinking I would try to get into classical. I've been listening to the local classical station and I'm trying to get into it but it's a bit overwhelming. Anyway, I'm curious if what I have is good in terms of whether those of you that are into classical would say, that's a great, good, bad, whatever version. I hope that makes sense. What the hell is going on at 1:39 of this track? That's more than a kick drum. On a side note: I challenge anyone with good bass on their headphones to listen to that track and say that the bass at that point isn't "visceral" (NSFW -- "I don't give a fuck you fucking fuck" being amongst the lyrics). You should feel that bass down somewhere around your diaphragm.

I don't know how many of you saw this, but Ms. Newsom is releasing her follow up to the wonderful Ys next month with a 3-CD/3-LP release of Have One On Me. Yes, a triple album. No idea what to expect, but I'm looking forward to this immensely. Pre-Order here. Here is an idea I had... Idea.. I picked up a cd this mourning called "Artists choice, Norah Jones.. the music that matters to her" at the Starbucks in my side job. it is basically a CD with 14 tracks of music that means a lot to Norah Jones, some tracks are from Billie Holiday to Johnny Cash. on the way home I thought this was a great Idea, to make a cd with a bunch of tracks with music the matters to you, or at least something you listen to a lot. since Headcase is pretty small I think we here can do something like this but for ourselves to exchange to other members here. We all know each others Internet personality and each others gear we use..but we don't know…

I'm not sure how popular these were (looks like at least some ended up on VH1), but the BBC documentary series Classic Albums is on Netflix. Not the most exploratory, so if you're already well familiar with the backstory of each album they may be of limited use, but for everyone else they're definitely worth a try. Saw Rumours last week. Astor Piazzolla - Tango: Zero Hour Rarely does music move me to tears, but "Concierto Para Quinteto" may be the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Astor Piazzolla was the most important composer of the style of music referred to as tango nuevo, literally "new tango." His specific brand of tango nuevo could be described as tango in form, but heavily influenced by classical and jazz in its use of harmony and counterpoint. I don't know anything about the tango, but now I want to learn more. If anyone here at HC is well-versed in tango & tango nuevo, I'd appreciate any recommendations.
