I've been getting some free concerts (streaming, not download) from Qello, and I know there's at least one other Styx fan (Mikey?) so thought I'd share -- doesn't even require signing up (they're trying to promote the snot out of it, so they're actually releasing some entirely for free. Styx Peter Gabriel If you follow them on Facebook, there are others -- Michael McDonald doing Motown, Waylon Jennings being Waylon Jennings, etc. Highly recommended. Feel free to share other services. What you got? There was a place in Amsterdam that used to stream every show they ever had come through their doors, saw The Gathering perform the entirety of Black Li…

So, I have accumulated a good amount of Opera over the years and have decided to take a systematic approach to listening through it. Some of the stuff has decent libretti and notes included, but I am looking for some additional external sources. I definitely would like a compendium that includes English translations, as I have a lot of Euro releases without any English, but also looking for reviews of performances and what not. Any recommendations of some things I can grab on Amazon? My goal is to do headphone (audio-only) listen-through and then BluRay / move theater / live and then back to a speaker rig (audio-only, probably) over say the next 3 years.

  4. I hadn't seen this posted anywhere and thought it was worth mentioning... Sorry, lost the link to where I found it... Hopefully remastered means fixing the channel dropouts in "The Moor" and not brickwalled loud. Should be interesting. MA,YH is still my favorite Opeth album, but this could add new life to Still Life. That channel dropout really drives me nuts, as "The Moor" is my favorite track on that album.

Any of you guys who have an interest in acoustic or early electrical recordings like I do, might find the downloads that Amoeba have made available interesting. If you don't know what I mean about acoustic recordings, they are from the era of recording when acoustic horns were used before the invention and/or the general use of microphones or electric amplifiers. The musicians had to gather around a horn and play loudly so the vibrations at the small end of the horn could "cut" the record master or wax cylinder. This made the recordings of large ensembles (such as an orchestra) difficult and in many instances, instruments were replaced by ones which were capable of pro…

Have any of you discovered Pandora yet? http://www.pandora.com/ Pretty cool way of being introduced to new music -- I have several "stations" set up already (Ambient Electronica, Organica, Eccentrica, eMetal, and Electro Industrial). If you are on, and/or you don't mind me giving them your email address (I.E. if you are going to sign on anyway), then let me know (PM me your E), and I'll "share" them with you. And apparently, there's some sort of sharing of information going on with the Slimdevices Squeezebox, so if you have one of these, you can listen anywhere and all of the other functionality (and you will want to be able to rate and skip songs, &c.), not…

Paul Motian passed away a week ago and Fresh Air had a nice tribute/older interview that hit upon Bill Evans, Monk, and Keith Jarrett. Worth a listen. "I'm not a showpiece drummer. ... I feel like I'm an accompanist. It's my sort of thing to make the other people sound good, as good as they can be. I feel like I should accompany them, and I should accompany the sound that I am hearing and make it the best that I can — that I can do."

Now, Renato is going to think I am drunk... and he is somewhat correct, but I just had an epiphany of sorts and decided to start this thread. If there is already a similar thread on the go, I'm sorry, but I'm not searching for shit at this point. Just doing a little spring cleaning and spinning some vinyl and I was struck by the perfect beauty of Stevie Wonder's 'Ordinary Pain'. Any other songs that you think are perfect?

This was announced some time in June. They put up samples of the upcoming album on their Myspace page today: Porcupine Tree on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads The stream quality is not very good, but I enjoyed what I heard A review from a listening session can be found here. Also it sounds like a 5.1 DVD-A is confirmed, which more than likely means a high res stereo PCM track on the same disc.

Rules: 1. The video must be music related, meaning it can be a live performance, a music video, an interview with an artist, etc. 2. You must describe the contents of the video, you can't just post a youtube link with no accompanying description. Just something as simple as "<artist> plays <song> live" will suffice, but feel free to describe more if you would like. So those are the rules. Linky: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfjqZC5iTU8]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfjqZC5iTU8[/ame] RZA from Wu-Tang describes covering/sampling "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" in a brief five minute interview.
