I might as well make my first post here a good one. I want to see if this gets a bigger reaction here... I was turned on to this band from the "non-Opeth" part of the official Opeth forum earlier this year. After listening to them obsessively for the past month, I am curious to know why they have not gained more traction than they have here. Here are my thoughts on them: Out of Myself - One of my favorite albums ever!!! - The guitar is so expressive and full of sorrow throughout the album. It has some of the most emotional and beautiful playing I have ever heard (eg. The Same River, Loose Heart, Reality Dream II, and especially The Curtain Falls). The only …

  4. Going out on a limb here, has any head-caser heard the 2009 remaster of Tattoo You? I grew up listening to the original, yet all I own is a scratchy early-80s vinyl pressing. There was a time when I'd cheerfully buy any remaster, but the Terrible Age of the Brick Wall has cured me of that forever. I'd much rather track down a halfway decent CD pressing (or needledrop) of the original version than suffer through having all the dynamics crush by a modern rework. Anyone out there heard both? Bueller?

I know there are a number of people around here who really like Our Hearts First Meet and would like to know that her follow up is available... Amazon.com: For Blood And Wine: Rykarda Parasol: MP3 Downloads Just an amazon download for now (256 kbps), but I'm pretty sure the CD is in the works at a later date. Her official site is here. I can't say how much I love Our Hearts First Meet. The songs are stunning, with a western noir sound, and her voice is breathtaking. "Texas Midnight Radio" is the highlight for me on an album full of highlights. Downloading from amazon now... Will probably listen tonight. If not tonight, definitely tomorrow. …

I've been listening to this Schumann Cello Concerto: and am looking for more like this, but maybe even sadder, with a greater sense of longing. It helps if there are lots of complex passages as well. Maybe just drop a few composers on me, and their specific pieces, and I'll hunt down the performances. obviously I'm a total classical amateur. so any help is appreciated.

Holy shit what a great show! That guy knows how to spank that plank! And the whole band was tight, they were really on last night! It was kind of a weird venue, a high school auditorium. There was a sign on the wall saying that max occupancy was 1250. The acoustics were superb!

Is there an easy-to-use, reputable service/store to sell CDs to over the internets? I am looking for something that makes the process very simple, which is why I am not currently contemplating the forums. I welcome your suggestions.

Link To SFS Store Anyone heard this? I've really been enjoying the Living Stereo / Fritz Reiner Mahler's 4th, and am thinking the above might be a great way to get the whole cycle in glorious SACD sound.

I was really interested in this at first and held off, having listened to the Tidal stream of the record I am generally impressed. It fucks with a masterpiece but is a really goo modern take IMO. Anyone here own the record or the ridiculous deluxe $100+ version with DVD and Blu ray? I am interested in any gains with the 24/96 but not sure I want to spend the cash on it unheard.

Thinking about buying a copy of Metallica's S&M CD, noticed there is both a normal US release and a Japanese SHM-CD release. Never seen SHM-CD before, so no idea if it is worth the extra money. Is it different mastering, or just some sham to get more money out of folks? The actual encoding cant be all that different, unless they dont care about backwards compatibility.

Alright, I'm thinking suites of songs that are shorter than an album side. Some that I particularly enjoy are: Robert Palmer, Sneakin Sally through the Alley, beginning of side 1 -- "Sailing Shoes"/"Hey Julia"/"Sneakin' Sally through the Alley" Rupert Hine, The Wildest Wish to Fly (US version), end of side 1 -- "I Hang on to My Vertigo"/"Firefly in the Night"/"A Golden Age" Planet P Project, Pink World, end of side 3 -- "Behind the Barrier (Pt. 2)"/"March of the Artemites"/"This Perfect Place (Pt. 2)" -- all of side three is dang near perfect, but it comes to such a wonderful crescendo with the March of the Artemites suite. This all came about because I saw a song…

Wolfgang Voigt- Gas Some of you might be familiar with the electronic work by Gas. This is the same thing, except just some unreleased material not found on their other CDs. I have not heard his other releases under his own name, only the stuff released under Gas. It's hard to review this album, but to sum it up it's just an excellent dark ambient album that really draws you into the music. The downside is it isn't very long, under an hour and every time it comes to a close I'm wanting to hear more.

So as part of the new car we got a 4 month trial for Sirius XM and I'm wondering what people around here think of the service. Worth the $200 a year? That's a lot of CDs. Favorite stations? Edit: I see the mostly music for $10 a month. That's a bit more palatable.

  23. Started by cegras,

It was a nice experience. Overall, the music was not tear-inducing, but there were a few favourite sections of mine, including some arias by the tenor, who had a wonderful voice. The chorus was a bit piercing. I've always been sensitive to soprano ranges, so a deafening array of sopranos was bound to hurt my ears. Overall, it can get deafening, really quick. The position where you sit affects the music (expensive tickets, etc), and the performance you get may not be cherry picked, like a recording is. Often I find that live performances always somewhat fall below recordings, and probably for obvious reasons. This led me to think a bit about hi-fi and music. People a…
