Interesting story regarding Rutherford Chang and his collection of numbered Beatles albums. I understand that it's more of a multi media art presentation but for the casual onlooker, it's almost cult like! http://www.dustandgrooves.com/rutherford-chang-we-buy-white-albums/

I've been finding myself more and more unsatisfied by the post-rock scene, which seems to be the one area keeping the space-rock flag raised, what with both Riverside's and Antimatter's recent changes in direction. So make me some suggestions. What I'm looking for is that patient approach to music that songs like "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (starting at part one), "Echoes", Talk Talk's "The Rainbow", etc.

Any of you guys who have an interest in acoustic or early electrical recordings like I do, might find the downloads that Amoeba have made available interesting. If you don't know what I mean about acoustic recordings, they are from the era of recording when acoustic horns were used before the invention and/or the general use of microphones or electric amplifiers. The musicians had to gather around a horn and play loudly so the vibrations at the small end of the horn could "cut" the record master or wax cylinder. This made the recordings of large ensembles (such as an orchestra) difficult and in many instances, instruments were replaced by ones which were capable of pro…

This is what mybloodyvalentine.org looks like right now: This has been a pretty disastrous launch. MBV clearly learned nothing from NIN and Radiohead when it comes to high profile album launches. They've had 22 years to plan this album release.

Wow looks like a cool line-up this year: http://www.bluegrass.com/telluride/lineup.html I'm probably not going unless Alison Krauss & Union Station show up again, but since they have a new album coming out in April, my guess is that they might be there. Anyone think they might travel out for this?

Howard Smith was a long time writer for the Village Voice. Over the years, he interviewed and wrote articles about some of the icons of the 60's and 70's. Folks like Eric Clapton, John Lennon, and Frank Zappa were among those he interviewed. Like most journalists of the time, he would tape those interviews then go back and write his piece from those tapes. Fortunately, Smith had saved those tapes in hopes of using them for writing his memoirs and they've now been digitized and are going to be distributed on iTunes and a limited ed box set. Here's the article from the NY Times which includes some samples of those interviews. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/19/arts/mus…

Hey guys, I was wondering about this subscription as I've never done anything like this before. How does it work exactly? They send you 2 titles a month for how many titles? For people who have this subscription, how are you liking the sound quality of the records? I know Analogue Productions does a run of 25 titles with 2 titles a month, but I'm not sure how the Music Matters subscription works out. I think MM can easily fulfill my jazz fetish Do you guys think its worth doing?

I'm not sure how popular these were (looks like at least some ended up on VH1), but the BBC documentary series Classic Albums is on Netflix. Not the most exploratory, so if you're already well familiar with the backstory of each album they may be of limited use, but for everyone else they're definitely worth a try. Saw Rumours last week. Just finished The Band... [media=]

Source (Among Many Others): http://www.black-sabbath.com/news/index.html I have to post this because Ozzy/Sabbath got me into music. Sure, they will not be at the top of their game live due to their age, but I am very curious about the album. Could be great, could be bad. As long as Ozzy stays away from the writing and lets Tony and Geezer do their thing, it certainly has a chance. I will always see Sabbath live, because to this day, I have never heard such an awesome live guitar sound as Tony's. That alone, is worth the price. Going to be interesting...

So... I subscribe to several BBC podcasts, most are from the output of BBC Radio 4 such as Thinking Allowed, Material World and In Our Time. I downsized the number to which I subscribed at the start of the year after I realised that I had no hope whatsoever of managing to get through an unheard backlog of over 4000 podcasts with an average running time of between 30 and 45 minutes. Some of them I'd never even listened to once and it was just the hoarder archivist in me which kept them. I now have a couple hundred unheard, but the number is decreasing steadily. Fast forward to yesterday when I decided to expand my subscription list with something new and, it would se…
