Hey guys, I was wondering about this subscription as I've never done anything like this before. How does it work exactly? They send you 2 titles a month for how many titles? For people who have this subscription, how are you liking the sound quality of the records? I know Analogue Productions does a run of 25 titles with 2 titles a month, but I'm not sure how the Music Matters subscription works out. I think MM can easily fulfill my jazz fetish Do you guys think its worth doing?

Does anybody know about these? I see new LP's of old Blue Note albums at the record store for 10-12 bucks. Some are 180/200 Gram Vinyl, and some come with cds. I'd love to know how these are, and if they use the newer SH/KG masterings, or RVG's, or what.

Picking up the new Propagandhi album, "Supporting Caste" this afternoon. I've been waiting for this sucker since a track leaked a couple of months ago. I'm still surprised it's already here; their trend has been 5+ years between albums since founding the G7 Welcoming Committee. Anyone else excited about the Winterpeg Punks' return? I'm going to be going crazy this afternoon, looking instead of listening. I had to pick a large image here, for detail. Some great album art once again:

Wolfgang Voigt- Gas Some of you might be familiar with the electronic work by Gas. This is the same thing, except just some unreleased material not found on their other CDs. I have not heard his other releases under his own name, only the stuff released under Gas. It's hard to review this album, but to sum it up it's just an excellent dark ambient album that really draws you into the music. The downside is it isn't very long, under an hour and every time it comes to a close I'm wanting to hear more.

The single Earth Intruders is on the net and radio. Produced by Timbaland, very different from her other songs but IMO very good and continues to show how diverse a producer Timbaland can be.

You just got a new piece of gear (or entire system) and need to select one of your reference songs to see how you new gear fares; get your first impression. What do you play, and furthermore, why? Alternately, you attend a meet and sit at someone elses table. Same question.

I've read that the early CD RCA issues are supposed to be the best, but I believe I've only heard that version of Low. The recent EMI 24 Bit versions sound terrible. And the Ryko discs are really wonky, some tracks sound ok, others sound terrible, and others have strange frequency anomalies. Anyone else care to weigh in?

I thought this article was pretty interesting, where US artists want to receive royalties for their songs being played on the radio. Here is the beginning of the article: Not sure how to feel about this one. What do you guys think? Should artists be getting royalties for their song being played on the radio? We have enough fans, that I thought I'd start a thread. New song: Blue Lips. Jeff Lynne on production, pretty sweet. (See the comment about the echo, for example.)

So who do you think is the most skilled shredder out there? I'd say it's a toss up between Jason Becker, Michael Angelo Batio, and Ron Thal. On a side note, has anybody noticed that the faster they get the more it sounds like crap?

  20. So a friend of mine has been bugging me to transfer some cassette tapes. I am always willing to help out but the problem holding me back was that I didn't have a cassette tape player. Now, as far back as I can remember (1985), my father hated cassette tapes. Almost everyone I knew growing up didn't like them because 1) they jammed, 2) they didn't sound as good as the LP and 3) the art was crap. I guess I grew up with this bias (PUN!). Anyway, I grew up dubbing some stuff to cassette on my tape deck at home. It was a Sony and I believe it cost my parents all of $20.00 or so. I was never crazy about the sound but it was all I had. So I grew up, saved some money and f…

Though its a band I don't listen to that much, maybe because I lost all of their CDs over the years, but TMBG has consistently been one of my all time favorite bands since I was 13 years old. Back then I only had ears for bands like Metallica, GNR, Slayer, and Pantera, but somehow TMBG squirmed their way in there. They spoke to my dorky metal heart in a way no band really has since, except maybe Phish. Anyone else a fan? I never see any TMBG in the WAYLT thread so I thought I'd ask.

As some of you might know, I once played Slayer and Guns n' Roses on a Quad ESL-57 system. Surprisingly, the audio gods didn't smite me for this blasphemy, and thus it was learned that Quad 57's don't exactly rock. Recently, Biggie has mentioned playing Slipknot to stress audio gear, and Dusty Chalk admits to blasting NIN while auditioning speakers, while I've inflicted Metallica and Fear Factory on various systems. Which brings me to this topic, lots of people play Norah Jones, Diana Krall, and Miles Davis when auditioning systems or writing reviews, and then they oooh and aaahh at how warm, intimate and real it all sounds and give it an A+ rating. Which would be grea…
