  1. I thought this article from PC World was interesting. I copied and pasted the article below: Vinyl Revival? Records Move on CDs in 2008 - PC World Vinyl Revival? Records Move on CDs in 2008 Lucas Mearian, Computerworld Jan 3, 2009 10:44 am Recommends Audiophiles have long argued that vinyl records offer better sound quality compared to CDs or MP3s, but their stoic loyalty in the face of change was seen as little more than nostalgia over the 25 years digital recordings have dominated the music industry. In recent years, however, sales of LPs -- that's short for long-playing records -- have more than doubled onl…

  4. Stumbled across this today, and thought it was worth sharing. About as good as a YouTube video can sound, that's for sure! Funny bit with Michael Fremer towards the end. If you're ever driving past Salina, KS, you've just GOT to stop in to see Chad and his crew. What a bunch of great guys who have an absolutely boundless love for music and all things connected to it. Once they know you're an audiophile, they'll make the time for you...

I've been listening to this Schumann Cello Concerto: and am looking for more like this, but maybe even sadder, with a greater sense of longing. It helps if there are lots of complex passages as well. Maybe just drop a few composers on me, and their specific pieces, and I'll hunt down the performances. obviously I'm a total classical amateur. so any help is appreciated.

New Single "Came Back Haunted" streaming now on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/nineinchnails New Album Hesitation Marks out 9.03.13. Preorder available now on nin.com I dig the new single, but its hard to separate my joy at new NIN from my critical side. It has a great sound, more of an old schoolish dance/industrial feel, with some effects thrown in reminiscent of TDS-era NIN. Single has more of a steady pace, no huge heavy guitar parts or anything, but it still sounds great. NIN also announced a huge tour with supporting acts Explosions in the Sky and GYBE. I might as well make my first post here a good one. I want to see if this gets a bigger reaction here... I was turned on to this band from the "non-Opeth" part of the official Opeth forum earlier this year. After listening to them obsessively for the past month, I am curious to know why they have not gained more traction than they have here. Here are my thoughts on them: Out of Myself - One of my favorite albums ever!!! - The guitar is so expressive and full of sorrow throughout the album. It has some of the most emotional and beautiful playing I have ever heard (eg. The Same River, Loose Heart, Reality Dream II, and especially The Curtain Falls). The only …

  12. Ok, the music forum needs help! I thought we could make a thread for the female vocal fans, something that could be bumped with new stuff as time goes on. To keep this easy on the eyes and those who are looking to find some new female vocal music let's limit the number of artists/bands that you recommend to a total of 5. I'll set up a format that can be pasted so we have a bit more than a list of names and albums. Artist: Album: File Under: Recommended For Fans Of: Artist Website: Sample Listen: Music Best For: Reviews: My Thoughts: Artist: Splashdown (aka Melissa Kaplan) yes some of you know my love for her voice from another forum Al…

So I've been running on the treadmill lately, and I am curious as to what other people listen to when they want to go for that extra mile. I tend to listen to the following: 1) LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver 2) Girl Talk - Feed the Animal 3) Rage Against the Machine - self titled 4) Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation 5) Metallica - Kill 'Em All 6) Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury 7) Weezer - Blue Album

  14. As I was casually listening to some music tonight, my choice of CD brought a rush of memory back to me that inspired me to ask this question. What is the most memorable, striking moment you've had while at a concert, seeing a live performance? For me it was at an outdoor theater that no longer exists - Poplar Creek in the NW Chicago burbs. We had gone to see King Crimson there on the tour they did supporting the Beat album. But there were mega intense thunderstorms that day and the show was rained out. I had been a Crimso fan since the early '70's but had never seen them. I was heartbroken. Flash ahead a couple of years. Three of a Perfect Pair is out. Crimso is tou…

As some of you might know, I once played Slayer and Guns n' Roses on a Quad ESL-57 system. Surprisingly, the audio gods didn't smite me for this blasphemy, and thus it was learned that Quad 57's don't exactly rock. Recently, Biggie has mentioned playing Slipknot to stress audio gear, and Dusty Chalk admits to blasting NIN while auditioning speakers, while I've inflicted Metallica and Fear Factory on various systems. Which brings me to this topic, lots of people play Norah Jones, Diana Krall, and Miles Davis when auditioning systems or writing reviews, and then they oooh and aaahh at how warm, intimate and real it all sounds and give it an A+ rating. Which would be grea…
