I'm going to use this thread to welcome new members and provide inspiring messages to them. Welcome gwrskien! hope you are having a phenomenal day and you find what you are looking for at headcase. remember the best part of screwing up dinner is you can always order a pizza. and pizza is awesome, no matter who you are, unless you can't eat cheese. some places have that vegan cheese though which is pretty good. oily but good.8 points

Welcome to headcase, budiman0416! I hope your stay is a pleasant one. Leftover rice? Making fried rice is easier then you think. A quick google will turn up any number of easy recipes. Just make sure you add green onion, because without green onion fried rice tastes like nothing.4 points

I'm tired of paying rent on my cable modem, want to get my own. What should be my criteria? Also, my router seems to be on its last legs anyway. Also I'd like something somewhat slightly secure-ish. (Read: as secure as is possible without writing my own OS.) Right now I'm on cable, but FIOS is an option. Does that make a difference? I.E. if I switch, is there a router that I can get that I will still be able to use? The lady on the phone said "Arris". Yes/no/disagree/agree-but-with-qualifications? She actually said the one she would recommend isn't even on the list yet, it has a dual-band router, which tells me they can make it work. Yes/no/disagree/agree...? Here is the list of choices. DOCSIS 3.0, yes?1 point

According to the Hitchhiker's Guide, this can be done: Hotblack Desiato is a humanoid and front man for the band Disaster Area. He was incredibly rich, occasionally buying star systems, and once spent a year dead for tax reasons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Thanks for making this thread, DC. 6141 purchased. Shitty comcast modem will be returned to them as soon as it shows up.1 point

if you are comcast you definitely want the 6121 or 6141, as of last week in chicago they upgraded the firmware, so everything is fully ipv6 compatible. Also getting 90mbit now. and the big netgear for the wireless or something similar so that ipv6 works correctly too.1 point

if it were something I was passionate about, my wife wouldn't mind so much. There's just not a good reason for me to have both bikes, and there's other things we could put that money toward.1 point

1) I hope that I never have to get rid of bikes for family peace. We built the garage to get my bikes out of the house. 2) How much are you thinking for the Calfee? Not that I can fit it at all but I am an interested onlooker.1 point

Jacob - Good luck with the opportunity Friday! The failed neutral thing is scary. I had that once for the whole house. I had my brain completely powered down and didn't realize what was going on or the ramifications. I had a really odd conversation with the power company guy on the phone. Me: We're experiencing sags. Power company guy: OK. Me: And it's the oddest thing. I'm seeing ten volts high on some of our circuits and ten volts low on the others. Power company guy (with noticeable change in tone of voice): You have a failing neutral line. We'll send somebody out. Me: That's great. When will they be here? Will they come tomorrow? Power company guy: Oh, they'll be there within twenty minutes! And fifteen minutes later two guys showed up, each driving an impressively enormous power company truck. They wired up a huge temporary umbilical. It was a giant extension cord, really. That they called it -oddly, I thought - a "ground strap". They ran it up my oak tree and over my neighbor's road to a transformer. It was fun watching them work. They have all the same stuff we do, but on a heroic scale. Solderless connectors that use a hydraulic jack to crimp. Shrink tube the size of a firehose. Stuff like that. A week later a crew came out with tunneling equipment and ran completely new underground service to my house. I'm lucky I called them when I did. Honestly, I just hadn't stopped to think what the high and low voltage must mean.1 point

Good luck Jacob! I had lunch with a dear friend and I'm having dinner with another dear friend tonight... a rare day when I get to have two meals with lovely people. I have not had much of a chance to get out and meet new people over the last two years since I've had the majority of custody of my daughter. Getting out with two friends in one day is a real treat. Sometimes it's the simple things that make one's day.1 point

Final version. Full disclosure, the clams were wrong for the dish. I wanted mussels but the market did not have any. This was shrimp, chicken and andouille sausage. Again, we wanted Spanish chorizo but sucky Midwest markets. And socarrat development was not there this time. Still, we enjoyed the shit out of cooking and eating it. And we will make more.
