I will try to explain myself with my limited knowledge of English. Please don't taunt me Although the GG is now to my liking, IMO there is still a big difference between both: The Cabon sound is much flatter, more precise and detailed. The problem is that he doesn´t forgive the bad recordings or sources. You can hear all defects and goodness of a recording. Sometimes this is good... or not. The GG with the "fat bottomed girl" he has a nice bass and a midrange colored and more balanced between both, IMO this makes it less precise (a bit), but at the same time make it more musical and relaxed. With my EL34 quads (JJ, Mullard and Tung-sol) I think that the GG sound is a disaster because you have U-shaped equalization and I don´t like this kind of sound. IMO both amps have an opposite character and you can determine perfectly which of the two you are listening to. If you have an aggressive source (for example DAC with many treble or bad records), you probably would appreciate having the GG. For other hand if you prefer a sound as faithful as possible, the Carbon is your amplifier. PD. I haven´t any "sacred cow" yet (007/009), I only have Lambda, 202 and 307.3 points

output buffer may be a diamond follower, hard to tell. rest of it after the dac certainly looks like stacked current mirrors. certainly a complicated design similar to what you see inside integrated circuits. obviously assembled with high resolution pick and place machines. much better built than a lot of stuff I have been seeing these days. Now a year or 2 to make the software perfect and the thing will be gold. no sanded off parts either like the denafrips, so they are proud of their work. Only one board error with that hand soldered diode. nice stuff and an indication of whats coming.3 points

Ok I'm listening to my new "Fat Bottom Girls" I recognize that the sound is much better than the EL34. I had never used 6CA7 before but I'm very surprised.3 points

My Mom's husband just grilled sirloin burgers. Yummm, but that was tempered by the disappointing news that my Mom is making stew tomorrow. My Mom makes absolutely terrible stew. I'll smile and pretend it's delicious.2 points

That would be an awesome speaker for your Eyes Wide Shut style cult fuck-mansion, for the days when the pianist can't make it, or whatever.2 points

I like it that they are trying to claim this is somehow their design... seriously? Old as the hills that one... Anyway, same as the Egmont etc and not that hard to run with a servo. Pick a good cathode resistor on the output stage and you are close enough for most servo's to correct. The balance would concern me Things I just don't get is why they'd use the 6SL7 and not the ECC83. ECC83 is superior in every way in something like this where the super high mu is a huge advantage. Also...why the fuck run it at +/-400V? They are clearly running with resistors for everything so plenty of voltage being eaten up there but these are ~350V tubes so running them at 800V makes sense? Bizzarre... Also, why have a special transformer for the bias? Hello...voltage doubler off the B+ limited to +580V with a voltage divider as Stax have done since 1982. Some other issues as well such as the use of the RN55 resistors which aren't rated to these voltages. They use them in the HV regulators and well...I'd use CMF60's there. Cost be damned... Seeing this kinda makes me want to try and get an Egmont type amp up and running for this money. I have a new PCB layout for that one that I can try out..1 point

This is not mine so I have to send it to the owner. I just got the chance of a brief listening. This DAC was really good for those have no skill/time to DIY. Compared with single 1021 w/ uber buffer fed into balanced CFA, uber has better sound stage and dynamics. 1541 has some more detail and sounded airy. The front panel is a convenient feature so changing digital filter and xfeed are much easier than DIY ones. The chassis however, was solid but compromised on finishing. It looked cheap. For a DAC now 1290 Euro, and made in Denmark, I can't expect it having a much better look though. The main issues here IMO, are 1) the performance of buck+LDO. I personally prefer some traditional way like transformer+ultra low noise linear PS. 2) the performance of the output buffer. It has only +-12V ps. But should be plenty for the output. It has different PS for digital and analog rail. The 1021 DIY module drive 5V digital parts form analog rail. Which was somehow compromised, too. So people have to choose form better buffer like Kevin's diamond buffer and some real ultra low noise LDO or isolated PS for digital/analog. PS. the OP based balanced buffer on 1021 is utterly shit. Use raw output and some better buffers.1 point

I tried to make my own curry powder with random spices Cumin, Coriander, Tumeric, Ginger, Garlic, Cardamom, and cayenne pepper and tried to make my own half assed coconut milk with coconut water and heavy cream. It was not terrible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Thanks. I'm not an experienced musician, just a rookie wannabe, so for me it's not that easy guessing the kind of person playing and the kind of development it took to get that performance. I've been able to perceive and enjoy the Michelangeli's perfectionism and intellectual approach, the rigor or perhaps sort of "emotional sterility" on Pollini, the unique vision of Gould... but I've not been able to "get" what's behind Arrau's performances. Not that I've listened to everything he recorded, and never got to watch him live. I'm now listening to the first CD on the set that Jacob recommended. I think this is not the Arrau I've listened to in other performances1 point

What's good about it is that even if you weren't a gamer, it's still a fun read. I was kind of surprised it would be made into a movie, there are a lot of very specific game references that are bound to the plot, I'll be curious which ones they kept and which ones they substituted. There are a lot of legal logistics to be lll...can't think of an el word....wrangled. Did you see the RP1 episode of Community? It's called Digital Estate Planning, I thought it was the closest we were going to get to a movie version. Me: ripped through more M.R. Forbes. The man knows how to pace a book, and I really like his approaches to common tropes -- he tries not to do the same thing twice, and it's like Ghost in the Shell -- sometimes it's a buddy cop story, sometimes it's an intergalaxial thriller with politics, sometimes it's fantasy, sometimes it's science fiction, but invariably it's always a fun read. I think I'm all caught up with everything he's written at this point. He'll never be confused for Ernest Hemingway or any other super-literate authors, but I'm not reading it to build my vocabulary, unless you want to count the fictitious species "Plixian"...1 point

Fun read. I was born in 85 and I think I'm about 5-10 years too young for most of the references. I think RP1 might be better as a movie than it was as a book. I'll be looking forward to it next year.1 point

Brent gets away with a lot by not always informing us of his biscuit consumption. For all we know, he may be directly responsible for the likes of Cheeto Jesus (thanks, Mike) sitting in the oval office, North Korea's missile success, hell even Brad and Angelina's break-up. I'm suggesting to the BHCM Committee (Betterment of Head Case Members) that we install a permanent Biscuit Monitor. Think of him as a Secret Dis-service officer to patrol Brent's every move. All in agreement press the 'like this' tab.1 point

Since the grounded grid/Carbon is getting all the love these days and I'm too lazy to build one from scratch, I thought why not just make a little adapter board for my KGST. Just a rough draft I whipped up in 10 minutes, will need revision. One of those revisions is Kicad suddenly deciding it didn't want to orient the 3D model headers correctly and gave a totally wrong size for the disc caps.1 point
