  1. Managing my first project for the new company. It's a small bathroom remodel. A 6' x 8' room and the floor and ceiling were out of level more than 3" in that 8'. Got them both level and am ready for the tile guy tomorrow morning. It still feels a bit strange, as before I was the carpenter, sheetrocker, tile guy etc... I kind of like this delegating thing.

  2. Not sure if we have a KGSS thread but I'll just post this here. So last year it dawned on me that I built my first KGSS amp 15 years ago and something had to be done to celebrate that. It started off pretty mild with me reworking Justin's old KGSS board file, changing parts as needed, updating and the like to what we do now. Then it hit me, that's too easy so I went off the deep end. I wanted to do something unique so why not the smallest high performance amp I could possibly do? The KGSS offers some advantages over the KGSSHV here, fewer parts due to the resistor current sources in the third stage. Now there are performance issues, we all know that but this is how the KGSS was back in the day. The plan was to be authentic so 2SK389 input devices and the only major change being a switch to 2SC4686A's from the 2SC3675's as they are simply superior and fully insulated to boot. Power supply is similar to the old KGSS and is a reworked one from my cheap KGSSHV. 2SA1627A based CCS with the regular fet output for a +/-350V output. The output stage current is set to the standard KGSS setting which is ideal for this tiny chassis. So how tiny...this tiny... Pictured here in the KGSS normal habitat, with a SR-007BL mk1 and a Stax HPS-1. I did say it was tiny... 21cm wide, 29cm deep with the knob and just 7.5cm tall. That doesn't leave a whole lot of internal room so very strict transformer specs, about 15 drafts of the fully through hole amp boards to make the ground plane work and for it all to fit strict height requirements of the parts used. So here are the internals... Now you can please excuse me, I'm going to go and listen to some early 2000's music on the 007Mk1's...

  3. Installed a new negative regulator, adjusted the trimpots and soldered in the 0 ohm resistors. Finally had a listen. I have never heard the full size Dynalo SuSy so I cant compare but this little amp sounds amazing through my HD 6xx! Absolutely no noise except a tiny bit of scratchyness while turning the TKD pot. Voltage rails are +19.99/-20.03. Here are some temps I measured positive regulator heatsink- 50C negative regulator heatsink - 60C output transistors (no heatsink) - 75C Thank you Kerry, Spritzer, KG, Pars, mypasswordis, Sbelyo, John McLean, mwl168, RudeWolf, JoaMat and countless other people for making this possible. Now that I have an amp I am turning my attention to casing. I'm willing to organize a group buy for enclosures but I need at least 10 to make it interesting. Ill make sure to have panels for both the TKD and Alpha pot. Anyone interested?

  4. the holes were slightly off, but close enough, and it solved the problem. You rock, thanks!

  5. Milled this today – negative regulator. Shot by USB camera approximately magnitude 20. Using a 15th end mill, minimum clearance between pads, traces etc. is 16th. There are 5 vias 12th and they actually hit the bottom pads quite accurate. CNC machine is a fantastic gadget

  7. Nate's home for wayward audio shit is still marginally operating on the east coast. And having seen Al's closet, everyone's wallet should be very, very afraid.

  12. Stuck on Chelsea Wolfe -- I originally discovered The Abyss, but now I've developed a love of Pain is Beauty and Apokalypsis especially (but all her albums, just especially those two), after this video made me check out Pain is Beauty which led into Apokalypsis (via YouTube autoplay): ...and Hiss Spun has made it into my top albums of last year. Found out she's opening for Ministry in April...I might have to go to that.

  14. IT WORKS!!!!! All the LEDs light up with power supply set to +18V/-18V. Right channel on the TRS is 70mV and left channel is 190mV. Temperature is a cool 140f without the heatsinks. now we know what happens when you install CCS LEDs backwards.

  15. No, I meant reflective, and I meant the gel like material. Glass has a very hard reflective surface, acoustically, hence Marc’s comment, but I imagine gel would be a little better, like putty.

  16. Looking forward to hearing these. I'm not really a closed-back fan, but hopefully these will show up at a bay area meet sometime this year.

  19. JP asked me about a different phono stage that I actually use so I offered to sell him the Eddie Current Transcription amp sitting in a cupboard the last few years. It's a start. Oh, and I still use the Millett amp in my main system.

  20. Here's another winner from the bay. Seller claims a friend braided it for him without re-terminating the cable. Sure he did
