  1. It was a good day for fencing, gold is best medal of medals. Lance made five new friends and a good way to start the week as I will be taking Lance and Mary to LAX tomorrow morning at 4am for a flight to Boston to visit Boston and New York colleges.

  3. If I had to guess, you had a cold solder joint somewhere, which worked for a while, but then cracked and maybe some stray metal fell and shorted something important. You should replace the entire board. After a major failure like this, it's more work than it's worth to determine which transistors (and even passive components) survived. Chin up! Everyone here has fried many many boards. You didn't get hurt, so that's a win!

  6. Yes, it's a B-24J from the Collings Foundation. The ride was short (30 minutes) but fun. I started in the radio operators position, just behind the cockpit. After takeoff, I stepped up into the cockpit behind and between the pilot and co-pilot. After a couple of minutes, I moved to the rear of the plane and spent the rest of the flight there. By far the best viewing is from the open waist gunner windows. My dad piloted B-24s during that time. I've been meaning to take a ride in a B-24 in honor of my dad for a while but the cost always put me off. This time I realized that I wasn't getting younger and did it. I'm glad I did. The "Wings of Freedom 2019 Tour" will go through NorCal starting May 15. If you have any real interest, I highly recommend a flight.

  7. My Mom had this recording and I used to love listening to it as a kid. Found it on Tidal The second track describes the recording of the cannons and bells used. Pretty interesting. Don't play it too loud. They did a great job of capturing the vintage bronze cannon.

  8. We have to keep this thread alive, don’t we. New version of 4093 based timer for T2 PSU - replaces the 555 IC. Makes a LED flashing during pre-heat and get steady when high voltages kicks in. Old to the left and new to the right. New in place in the T2 power supply.

  9. I believe the 580V Stax bias voltage with 5M ballast resistor is safe for HE90. I have tried the HE90 with some Stax amps in the past, and I didn't notice any problem. However, if it will make you feel better, reducing the bias voltage to 500V and adding additional 5M ballast resistor are the way to go.

  10. Dealt with what can only be charitably called a "piss explosion" coming from the ceiling of the cat's bathroom. The plumbers have come and gone, and the bathroom is sealed up for the time being. The cats seem to feel very betrayed.
