My Levercraft order arrived. Over a $50 purchase and shipping was free...I reached out and they sent me the code. It wasn't obvious to me on their site. They also updated their store / available coffees after I contacted them as only two were of interest to me that showed in stock. They had a good bit more than the website reflected at first which made purchasing a lot more satisfying. The coffee arrived promptly via USPS and packed well. A few observations at this point as I've only tried the Yemeni. The Yemeni is as described. A lot going on and some very bright tart cherry/wine flavors. Very interesting. Not a pretty bean...smallish and some tan looking ones, but the coffee is top quality. $24 per half pound??? I dunno...that's by far the most expensive coffee I've purchased. The bottles are interesting. My only concern is that when you open one you get the pfffft of built up gases. I'm assuming it's a CO2 build up and why good coffee comes in bags that allow for it's release over time. So not sure about that part. Beans were roasted recently as marked on the bottles which is always a good sign. More to follow as I get on to the next few. HS2 points

It’s so great, I had to turn around and listen to it again. I didn’t even realize it was dropping, until just hours ago, and just got so excited. Made. My. Day.2 points

given that Yemen is a war zone, and they have to smuggle it out... for me to get Yemeni beans it's 3-4x more per pound to buy, and it's a trickier bean to roast correctly. It's also really hard to get in any kind of quantity. It's amazing to me that it's cheaper than Kona or Blue Mountain, and I think it's significantly better than either.1 point

We've gotten snow here in Chicago area twice this week (including Thursday night). I can deal with this kind of snow: a) don't have to go anywhere, and b) it doesn't stick to sidewalks and driveways, so don't have to do a damn thing about it1 point

I know exactly how you feel. I've been using the same Cold Steel Twistmaster for over 30 years. It's an extraordinarily tough knife that holds its edge well and sharpens easily. Carbon V steel isn't stainless so it needs to be oiled and most Twistmasters that have seen hard use have a few stains or a patina that doesn't affect their performance. Some people have improved cutting performance dramatically by altering the edge profile: http://www.cliffstamp.com/knives/reviews/twistmaster_dp.html If I ever had to replace it (as a beater folder), I'd get a Cold Steel Voyager – it has the modern features like one-handed opening, pocket clip, stainless steel, and a very strong lock (watch Cold Steel's Voyager lock tests for fun if you have time). And swords are just big knives, right? A witcher-style sword:1 point

Received confirmation from the fab house that our orders are in production (each distinct Gerber file is considered one order). I've opted for boards to be shipped to me in batches when they are ready so we are not all held up by the partially assemble GRHV boards which will take longer than the rest of the PCBs.1 point

RIP Lee and Brian..... RIP to Mr. & Mrs. Cohen, a couple in the Boston area. Saw a news story about them. Married 77+ years, separated only during WW2. Both in a nursing home, vowed to stay with each other to the end. She contacted COVID-19, he did not but still had pneumonia from another issue. With a nurse in PPE and holding each of their hands at times, they stayed together. She died I guess 12 hours after him on the same day. He was 102, she 97. I'm tearing up just typing this.....sad, yet so beautiful.....1 point

COVID-19 has claimed two great bassists in one day. RIP Matthew Seligman of Soft Boys and many others including David Bowie, Thompson Twins, Morrissey, Chrissie Hynde, Sinead O’Connor, Tori Amos, and Thomas Dolby. RIP Henry Grimes, another jazz player taken from us. Grimes played and recorded with everyone in the ’50s and ’60s, including Don Cherry, Sonny Rollins, Cecil Taylor, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Gerry Mulligan, Albert Ayler, Don Cherry, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Roy Haynes, Lee Konitz, Steve Lacy, Charles Mingus, Sunny Murray, Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, and McCoy Tyner. After being broke and out of the scene for a couple decades, he had a renaissance in the aughts and played with John Zorn, Marc Ribot, and Nels Cline. 🙁0 points
