  1. I've been doing the same thing Jim! I picked up one from Pioneer that opens up so that disk don't get stuck inside. Works well but man is ripping CDs slow. I've set up a Roon server on my imac since it is on all the time and got a 2 bay RAID 1 harddrive that is networked and is in the closet. Roon is fucking awesome! Love been able to steam music anywhere in the house I want! Planning to replace my Airport Express (ethernet to optical) with the Rasberry Pi + Ropiee (eithernet to USB) that Marc suggested so I can get hires in the music room. Today, I moved around my headphone setups for kicks (one at my desk and one in the music room). Decided that the GS-X mk2 needed to be near its cousin BHSE. Plus, it is a good way to procrastinate grading.

  6. A faulty ksc2690 (2sk216 substitute) north of one of the batteries. It tested alright on transistor tester but at a much lower hFE than specified.
  7. So I went outside for a bit at lunch. Took my camera with me. Turns out that my trusty D50 turned over 10,000 photos and reset the counter. Here is image 10,001 -- not bad. Feel like the old girl probably deserves a good cleaning... cheers
  8. I think you may need another DAC. #TheNextDinny
  9. I grew up on Henry Mancini, and that soundtrack in particular was one of my favourites.

  12. Seriously. If it’s smart enough to filter everything else and leave my voice, then it could be smart enough with a little tweaking to filter Brent’s voice out and leave everything else. My dream is closer to reality. Also: thank math!
  13. This is pretty amazing. Also, Jerry has gotten so fat I'm worried he's going to die right before our very eyes.
  14. Mastercraft X26 Wakesurfing boat please and then invite me up and then sell it to me for half price when you get tired of it. https://www.mastercraft.com/boat/detail/x26

  16. Problem solved. No hum or noise that my old ears can detect.

I've seen those monster speakers before. Monster room, that I think he had specially made for the purpose. But why the clocks? He obviously hasn't done the swept sine at decent power in the room to find out what is resonating. At least the room is symmetrical. Swept sine is a damned good way of finding out what is rattling and resonating in a room. From Nelson Pass (he of Pass Labs) in http://www.firstwatt.com/pdf/art_elpipeo.pdf "Funny things happen when your speakers are flat to 13Hz. You have to be careful about your tone arm, your windows, your neighbors, and your bowels."

  20. Here's my balance servo module. It uses 4 HN4C51J's. Works great... You could make a little board with the HN4C51J that pins out to the 2SC3381.
  21. OK I have to change my mind on Roon. I spent the morning reinstalling my Roon Core and now it all works flawlessly. Since both Roon as well as my infrastructure has changed significantly since the last time I used it I do not know what caused this improvement, but I am happy. Seamless integration of my collection as well as Tidal and Qobuz and easy switching of where I want it to play. I now see its popularity.

Not only own - built from first priniciples. The bridge and baffle are traditional hammer veneered using hide glue, and then French Polished. The dark wood around the forward tweeter and the baffle support is Cocobolo, and the bridge feet are Goncalo Alves. The bass unit is spray painted satin back, and then coated in buffed in wax polish. I was going to just paint the whole thing black, but Mrs S said she'd like wood finish - so I used that as an excuse to learn traditional veneering and French polishing.

  29. FFS. First SME stopped supplying tonearms - now Jelco. Pretty soon it is going to be tricky to buy a reasonably priced tonearm.
  30. Jelco Tonearms have decided to stop manufacturing. Several turntables use them as OEM suppliers so it will have a ripple effect. https://www.whathifi.com/us/news/jelco-closes-down-due-to-covid-19-and-outdated-machinery

  33. The resistors sparked to the ground plane. I spent a good whole day elevating all of them. Also fixed the PSU, all voltages are ok now. (*wheww) Now back the amp section, the same thing happened. I couldn’t get the trimmers as low as 6.55V. Same as 740V. The LED at +500V didn’t lit. I wonder if the sparkling to ground plane affected the board itself?
