I wanted to stain the box, inside and out, before the drawer dividers made that almost impossible. I made sure to leave the datos stain free, so that I can get a good glue up on the dividers. Stained the 1/4" ply for the dividers as well. When I cut the dividers to fit, that will give me good unfinished edges for glue. I decided on Espresso. I think I may give it another coat once it dries. That'll require another day before I can get the dividers in, but I think a bit darker is what I'm looking for.9 points

Here are the feet - there isn’t enough travel in them I think. I probably need another solution than the motor mount (male stud, rubber, male stud - which goes into the aluminum line footer and the shiny round circle thing on the top) idea which is stock for these VPI tables. There is a slight gap on purpose to suspect the table so it’s just decoupled via the rubber… the wood is just attached via glue dots to the underside of the plinth to hide the motor mounts.6 points

I bought kd lang and the reclines 'Angel with a Lariat' in 1987, when it came out. I then went back and bought the first album, and have bought every album since. To say I'm a fan would be a giant understatement. Hymns of the 49th parallel is one of my favorites to listen to. I discovered Chris Isaak two years earlier, and I buy every album he releases as well. Still two of my best discoveries.4 points

Well, a couple of nice outcomes have arisen from the ire induced by the self-serving PM of thuytn , so far: First, upon reporting the head-fi PM (word-for-word identical to the one he simultaneously sent here), Head-fi moderators immediately flagged his current account https://www.head-fi.org/members/tranhieu.83205/ "Caution: Incomplete Sales". The account hasn't been wiped like the first account (with the T2 board and transistors), yet, since it doesn't seem he's actually sold anything via the current head-fi account. But there's always fls.audio on Ebay with a couple of auctions about to close, now... and I suspect there is already more than one unfortunate victim like Paramesh out there. Second, Thuan's "Megatron" is ready to go out the door to a member here who is more than capable of providing a comprehensive assessment. With gratitude, my thanks!3 points

^ Agree. Plus here who can deny a Canadian celebration album of Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, etc. tunes? "After the Gold Rush" (Neil Young) – 4:00 "Simple" (k.d. lang, David Piltch) – 3:02 "Helpless" (Neil Young) – 4:15 "A Case of You" (Joni Mitchell) – 5:12 "The Valley" (Jane Siberry) – 5:31 "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen) – 5:01 "One Day I Walk" (Bruce Cockburn) – 3:24 "Fallen" (Ron Sexsmith) – 2:56 "Jericho" (Joni Mitchell) – 3:45 "Bird on a Wire" (Leonard Cohen) – 4:28 "Love is Everything" (Jane Siberry) – 5:432 points

I prefer the fifth generation, but the curves on the first generations were killer. I didn't like the ergonomic issues I've heard about with the early Vipers though (lack of footroom, leg-burning exhaust, interior build quality). The Viper ACR still beats the Corvette ZR1 around the Nürburgring Nordschleife with an unofficial record of 7:01.67 (the Corvette ZR1 did 7:04 and the new C8 did 7:29.9).2 points

I think I may be getting a bit obsessed with the idea of buying a Dodge Viper... Gen 2 or the Heritage version they put out on a limited basis in 2013. Really like the blue with white stripes... HS2 points

Another pot or stepped attenuator I have worked with (on Todd's CFP3) is a 41 step unit from Acoustic Dimension. It seemed pretty nice with good tracking, etc. The do make quad units, and the one in the CFP3 was a 10K, which they don't show on their website. http://www.acoustic-dimension.com/2 points

Speaking of filters, for V60 I love CAFEC roast-specific filters. I have some for light roast and while the reduced flow rate can be a bit troublesome, their ability to keep out finer particles is really great. I may hop on the decaf Japanese-iced bandwagon. Haven't had a decaf pour-over in a loooong time and it's not like it's trouble to make one.1 point

The Acaia Pearl 2021 I ordered 10,000 lifetimes ago has a shipping number! Let’s see if it’s better than my $11 scale for pour-over, if it ever arrives.1 point

A boiling water rinse of those chemex filters is needed regardless of their age IMHO. The nice thing is it also serves to heat up my chemex carafe so the coffee is hotter once I'm ready to pour....I swirl around the hot water once it's made its way through the filter. I have the Japanese coffee on my agenda... I really like hot coffee so it's not often I'll drink iced. Need to try it anyhoo... HS1 point

oh my god, where to start? The 2 rectifier tubes are GZ34 correct? Full wave tube diodes run as half wave diodes. Why? +/-400v power supply appears to be completely unregulated. 2 x el84+12ax7 is regulated +300v power supply? Original power supply caps rated at 450, definitely not enough. 550v just barely enough and that depends on whether the output tubes are actually warm before the rectifiers get warm. input tube current sources replaced by single power supply and resistor? cascode tube current sources replaced with resistor? Not even sure how i would fix this. But the tube rectifier and unregulated power supply have to go. Probably enough room for a pair of GRHV power supplies (kerry style). 300v supply likely has to go too. If its blowing fuses, could be that the high voltage transformer windings were not rated for >500v wrt ground. Reminds me of mikhail.1 point

Aye. I have a SteamLink and two Steam Controllers for which I paid less than the original price of one controller. IIRC the Link and the second controller were like $5 ea. + shipping. Valve is wacky company, drunk off its ass on the infinite money printer that is Steam. Gabe is passed TF out in a hammock next to some serene New Zealand beach, in what can only be described as a morbidly obese billionaire's food coma. He's largely a figurehead at Valve anyway, so the inmates are running the asylum there in Bellevue.1 point

I'm not sure what those things are but they are sure as shit not Megatron's. Looks more like a SRX with some version of the Megatron output stage... This is why Kevin and I try to expose these fuckers as they are literally running away with peoples money. On a similar note, I have another amp from JR Audio here now and well... stay put for another horror story. That thing lasted for a few days before the PSU blew up... a sloppy clone of one of my old PSU's BTW.1 point

Tried the Hoffman method. Bit of a faff, and not something to do if rushing to get to work - but the resulting coffee is to die for. Has real depth, but without the bitter edge from the regular French press method. Win!1 point

Making progress with the carbon build, I always enjoy SMD Here is how the SMD Carbon boards look loaded, still some parts to come and I was short on 2K trimmers on my order. Some components were mounted underside to make things easy.1 point
