  1. Got to see my favorite, Mark Burgess of the Chameleons, at a special tour he's doing. He does acoustic, and he has a guitarist doing the echo-y/reverb-y stuff for which the band is well known. REALLY interesting concept, and last night's venue was a little "Coffee Haus" above a Firehouse museum type place. All in Millis, MA, pretty much nowhere. The room was very nice and quite intimate. Took my son, we both loved it, and got to chat with Mark before and after. Lots of good chat about the songs and his history, stuff we had never heard before. Quite a great night. And I'm going to see him again Thursday night at another place.

  2. Mine are so old school they were called ER20's ( with the stems, unlike the new fangled stemless ER20XS's ) You know, from the before times, when I might consider remaining in a crowded enclosed venue, for an extended period, while being encouraged to engage in strenuous breathing by chants of "make some noise" , or "I can't hear you", fun. Or maybe thats just me. I notice on https://www.etymotic.com/hearing-protection/ that the non Brents can now avail themselves of not just the plebian PRO's https://www.etymotic.com/product/music-pro/ but the 1%'er (upcoming?) PRO ELITE's https://www.etymotic.com/product/music-pro-elite/ Have they left room in the marketing space for the Apple compatible MAX PRO ULTRA ELITE's ? ( or some non copyright infringing combination / ordering of those superlatives)

  6. Thanks! I generally seem to prefer the smaller output of the V60 versus the Chemex. It seems to me to always produce a better cup, but not sure why that is. If I preferred the Chemex and wanted more output I probably would try something like the Ratio, but worried the 6 or 8 won’t do as well with single cup brew volumes.

  7. Managed to make the clamps for the CNC, but have not figured out how to make the spoilboard. Having a 16x36 table with only a 13x25 cutting area makes shrinking the Tools Today spoilboard to work and actually line up kind of difficult.

  8. Saw Jimmy Vivino and Ronnie Earl last week. Really nice Blues, all different types. We went because of Ronnie Earl, and the fact that Jimmy had grown up and went to school in the same hometown as my wife (Glen Rock, NJ); I wasn't familiar with him otherwise. Turned out to be a HELL of a show! Ronnie has a bunch of health issues, so it was great to see him live. And Jimmy was right up there in energy, voice, and spirit. he also had a boatload of great stories from clubs across the states and musicians from the 60's on....

  14. So I'm considering joining a community band again since I have a stable schedule so I was thinking JH Customs with various filters, but this may be a more expensive and more complicated option. I'm intrigued. Edit: Heh. I contacted Ety to ask a question or two. I now have a discount set up. Anyone up for a group buy on some Music/Pro and/or GunSport/Elite?

  15. https://jhaudio.com/accessories/JHA-FLTR-PLUG I think @VPI has those, and also https://www.earasers.net/collections/musicians-hifi-earplugs if memory serves. He can probably tell you none of them are worth it, and just go either foamies or some esoteric active customs.

  25. Brent and I tried this escape room game out (on game pass). It is actually pretty fun! Though he makes some... I guess we can say 'interesting' choices in life, Brent's MENSA status has not been in question for me and he turns out to be a pretty decent partner for solving logic puzzles.

  27. I did sous vide picanha for the first time today. A simple rub of spices, smoked salt and olive oil, then cooked in the bath at 133F for 6 hours. The 'grill' part comes from very briefly finishing on the pellet grill, just one minutes a side, with the flame box open and the temp at the absolute highest I could get it, about 700F! Served with fresh chimichurri, I was in meat heaven.

  28. @n_maher if you like earthy you must love Sumatran beans. Boy, I can't get there but earthy is exactly what I'd call them. @luvdunhillI used a French press for eons...dog years. Absolutely loved it. Switched to a Chemex for my pour overs and I am smitten with the thing. I use the espresso machine in the afternoon, but to let a bean truly shine (I love the fruity / berry forward African stuff like Ethiopians best), I've become a huge fan of the Chemex the last several years. Happy caffeinating... HS

  30. I had a pair of HomePods, and I’ve hated the Kindle Fire TV interface, so I like picked up a 4k AppleTV, a mount for it, some HomePod brackets and some aluminum angle and miscellaneous hardware. Made a few cuts, drilled a few holes and mounted everything to the TV wall mount. Then I paired the HomePods with the AppleTV and I have a much-improved setup on the cheap.
