  3. Romain goes stupidly fast in the electric Ford van to set the second fastest time yesterday at Pikes. The straight line speed of this thing is absurd.

  4. Patricia Kopatchinskaja is one of my favourite contemporary violinists, I've listened to her live like 3 times in the last years, and always is fun and rewarding (which I can't say of Yuja Wang for instance). This album is available on most streaming services including qobuz, but Odesli must hate them.

  5. Greg, I think that you mean Belarus rather than Bulgaria. It's a good thing that there are no Russian troops in Bulgaria. Bulgaria is a NATO country and we would be at war.

  6. Are we possibly missing something here? Wagner and the Russian army for the moment seems to have all of a sudden made nice nice regarding the supposed "coup". Wagner/Prigozhin has moved 25K+ men into southern Belarus where coincidently there have been 33K+ Russian soldiers recently redeployed there as well. Both groups seem to be located in southern Belarus which happens to be north of Kyiv Ukraine's capital. Timely move for the Russians given Ukraine's counter offensive in the south of Ukraine where resources are concentrated.

  9. I assume, since it is Festool, you will need the hands of a child to hold it and the replacement blades would cost more than a pizza oven. Not sure I read the instructions that well, but i basically brush it on and then wipe it off 15 minutes later. Not sure I have bothered with additional coats.

  10. Nope, that's the production stuff.

  11. Used a lot of Penofin - honestly I found it hard to apply to some of the figured / end-grain parts. In the wrong light it looks faded and kinda ashy. For the straight grain pieces (whatever the opposite of end grain is) it worked really well. However, it felt like an hour between the two thin coats was too long - maybe that’s because it was like 150 degrees outside.

  14. I had a couple of goes at photographing ghost mushrooms (Omphalotus nidiformis) which are biolumiscent. A bit like the Aurora Australis the glow is seldom visible to the naked eye. Long exposures + high ISO - hence the noise.

  16. Dolby Atmos Wants You to Listen Up. True believers in the immersive audio format say it could restore a musical appreciation lost to a generation that has come up during the streaming era. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/21/arts/music/dolby-atmos.html

  20. I love Alcest. Enjoy. Check out Holy Fawn when you get a chance. Their latest album, Dimensional Bleed, is pure, unadulterated bliss. Nice. I love that album. If you like that sort of thing, also check out Alleycat by Nucleus. And if you want a rabbit hole to go down, check out T-Square and Casiopea.

  21. It turned into a bit of a saga, but my brother enlisted Steve to help identify a new tool for the shop that he wanted to surprise me with. My siblings were around the house while my terminally ill brother made many phone calls and repeatedly ordered and reordered the specified machine. That info leaked to me and made me self conscious about him buying me a gift and worried about how it would work out, but nobody (including Steve) would tell me what it was or how it was being delivered. It finally arrived a couple of weeks ago and there was another whole saga to get the 500lb box up to the shop. Turns out it is a dual drum 25" Supermax sander. It is very cool and with some shifting it fits into the shop in a good spot. I wired the 220V/30A connection myself with the same type of plug as the Hammer jointer/planer it sits next to. I am ordering some stuff to make a wye connector on top so that the two tools can also share the same dust collection hose with a quick connect setup. I can tell that this is going to be a great tool to have in the shop at twice the width of the planer and currently set up with 80 and 120 grit papers to cut the sanding time way down on lots of projects. Thanks Tom, and Steve, and even Doug who consulted as well. IMG_0462.mov
