  1. In a moment of madness I picked up 250 78rpm discs. All classical, complete sets and soloists like Gigli. My god they are heavy - I reckon that they weigh in at 75kg (170lb). Next task is to catalog precisely what on earth I've got. Oh - the whole lot was free of charge. WAF = 0 or even negative.

  2. Yay, let's have this discussion again. It always goes so well. In other news -- Trump rules, God doesn't exist and I banged all your Moms.

  8. Very nice selections Mikey! I'm a huge fan of his recordings too. If you can find a nice copy, his recording of Pulcinella on Argo is sublime!

  12. After buying many headphones from the '70s and '80s, I can attest that cables do make a difference. Most of the dynamic headphones cables I received are intermittent or just plain open circuit on one channel, and there is significant measurable impedance at the solder joints in particular. So I have determined 30-40 years of cable burn in is usually not great.

  14. I know, I know, hence my first reply to mikey. I was just pulling your leg a little bit I should have worded my reply to you as "getting them drunk with the Signatory bottles".

  16. So I have two responses: on the one hand, I applaud your beligerence. On the other, just because you can't comprehend something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

  17. I think I am about to be banned form the Utopia thread after posting this: From gullible HeadFi fuckhead regarding cable burn in (a bullshit concept in a world full of audio bullshit): ...I am told it needs at least 100 hours of burn-in. My Reply: For the love of Christ, why? What can possibly change in the properties of the cable from 100 hours of use, or 100,000 hours of use? Has anyone, anywhere, ever, been able to blind A/B test and separate a burned in cable from a fresh cable? Sorry to get mildly belligerent, but the cable silliness needs to be challenged at some point. So, will this get banned form the thread, or from all of HeadFi? I wonder. I will wear a total HF ban as a badge of honor. Kind of like growing up and moving from small boy pants to adult trousers like a grown up. I call fucking BOLLIX on cable sonic differences in general and cable burn in specifically.

  23. It was yesterday, but kimchi pressure-cooker risotto (made with miso broth that included kimchi juice and parmesan rinds, with sautéed kimchi, garlic, and shallot, with ajikiri and sake replacing the normal white wine) and roasted butternut squash soup. Nice early autumn meal.

  25. Thank you chinsettawong. The source is a Yamaha SACD player (CD-S2100) so it's a balanced 2v output. Here's the underside with board not yet fully mounted and transformers not yet hooked up:

  28. It's a shame that so often the response is some unobtainium pair of cans that are not only are pricey but would prove difficult to service should a problem arise. Not going down that path anymore. I'll stick with very good at the risk of missing out on someone else's nirvana. 007A's out of a Carbon, HD650's out of a Headamp GS-1 dynalo+, and my TH900's out of a Woo WA7 w/ some upgraded tubes all fed by an Ygg. Nothing crazy but each one makes me smile and 99% is good enough. Must be strong... I'll save the self-flagellation for my race car...LOL HS

  29. Had some old college friends come in I haven't seen in years, and met up with another one who just moved to town a few months ago. I was the culinary tour guide. At Taconooga, we shared some fries cactus. I had chicken and steak Taconooga tacos, with cheese and corn. Friends had chorizo, lengua, and a handful of others. Then the non-taco eating friend had the largest chicken tamale I've come across. Turns out this place offered something my friend wanted to try. We were going to order this top one to sample (corn truffle one) but then the server said they can do half that and half of the bottom (squash.) Not my scene, but I did enjoy the corn truffle one more. There was some gelato from Milk & Honey not pictured, before we went to get drinks elsewhere. Well, someone got so drunk (2nd time in her life to get drunk) we had to wait a while for her to recover, so she and I split some ox tail with a side of fried plantains at a Cuban rum bar called Embargo '62. The drinking thread will be updated, but there was a 151 soaked crouton that was in a beverage we shared... It was technically consumed. But served its purpose well in the moments leading up to its demise. Great bloody day. **BRENT** Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
