Went to my first sugar shack. Ate so much. They start out by giving you a doggie bag to fill as you go. I'm not going to even try and describe everything, as I'm not really sure, and most of the descriptions were in French. Lots and lots of foie gras and maple syrup. I nearly died.11 points

In between blizzards I decided to see how winter smoking would work. I think I found the secret to good brisket in my smoker, an early start. Got up at 2am/3am(adjusted) to start things off, let it ride for 3hrs. Starting the misting process at 6am, put it in the wrap around 9am when it hit 160, took till after 2pm to hit 205, let it sit there for almost an hour and then removed it to the cooler to rest for 2hrs before dinner. It was far and away the best I've done from a "falling apart" perspective. Flavor was also very good. Perhaps it was just leaving it alone to start with, or the fact that I cut the 6lb point in two prior to cooking, or just the randomness of life. Regardless, I have a happy belly. This in one of the two chunks, about 2-1/2 lbs (it was 3" think).4 points

We lost power for about 12 hours which is nothing, all things considered, and we've got the generator/transfer-switch so it was really only out for 4 hours because I didn't feel like setting it all up at 2:30am when it went out. Still, a freak storm. I went to bed at 11pm and at that point we had maybe 2-3" of snow. Got up a little after 6 to start cleaning the driveway and setup temp power. We had 16"+ at that point and it was still coming down. I finally made it into work at 11am, where we were running on self-generated power. Some lines not far outside the base came down and landed on rail road lines and made for quite the lightning show for the local residents. Everything is pretty much back to normal around us at this point but there will be significant yard cleanup as the trees in the front yard took it on the chin again. Lily and I made the best of it yesterday afternoon and went out for about a mile and a half snow shoe in the woods.3 points

The GG psu is actually off ebay or aliexpress, the one that feeds the dac. At least in the one I was sent pics off. Too late now to bother finding the pics but I'll see about doing so tomorrow. The Amanero being from Italy is just precious. It's a cheap USB board from China, seriously...go on ebay. My T2 worked just fine once I completely redid the amplifier board. That is the curse of being the first to do something as you would know...ohhh wait, you haven't done anything, have you? As for my PSU's, I make them tiny, it's what I do. They also have this thing called regulation, you should look into it.2 points

If you want inability to cope with snow, the south of England takes the prize. It can be many years between proper snowfalls, so it's cheaper to just grind to a halt occasionally than build infrastructure to cope. This is almost literally true:1 point

Milo (Al's alter ego) and I did some work on our router table/mortising machine today. It's starting to come together... Milo did a huge chunk of the milling and drilling on this, and all the holes and pivot points lined up perfectly! Of course, he stacked the deck a little bit... So upright, it's a regular router table, albeit a large one. tipped down, it's a mortising machine, or horizontal router table, useful for things like raised panels and such. We're really having fun building this and setting up shop in general. Still left to do... cutting the hole in the table top for the router lift, and painting/sealing.1 point

Thanks all! We aren't as bad off as others, it's easy to keep things in perspective. At the hotel now, after a warm and comfy night's sleep. We found my mother-in-law's place has power, and I believe our place does too now; we'll check after we leave the hotel. Cleanup and replacing food are the next tasks. But everyone is OK, that's the best thing. Wishing good thoughts for others! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD1 point

RIP the three workers in the Yountville VA. It's very sad to see folks who do their best to help PTSD victims taken down by the ones they are trying to help. Having worked at the Menlo Park VA in their "mental health" unit, it's easy to forget that these guys are well trained and more dangerous than the average guy flipping out.0 points
