  1. Here's the accompanying board for the GR HV & LV supplies. It's got a built-in controller to turn the HV on after a delay (if needed) along with a power LED indicator (flashing to solid). I've also added a tap for both Normal and Pro bias.

  2. Today's project... 50" X 19" Birch butcher block, stained Gray. This will be the top of my new A/V rack, which is your typical wire shelving, but epoxy coated Black.

  3. Lacking brisket, I grilled a tri-tip instead. It’s more CA anyway. Went OK.

  8. Done! These are not just your standard two ways. Instead, Marc has paired basically a full range driver and a super tweeter, then customized a crossover to take best advantage of that pairing. These drivers have to stretch their legs before I can really assess them, but so far I'm impressed. They're bigger than I had originally thought I'd build them, but still, make a pretty good nearfield monitor. Bass is far better than I expected. Eventually, they will darken to match the Parasound case. The window will speed that process up.

  9. Fried Chicken and Biscuits... It was my first time for both. Nothing perfect yet. The Biscuits came out a bit better than the chicken.

  12. It's an optional 5v regulator (LM7805CDT) to power the delay timer. You can also use an external supply for the that. I've set this up so you can use either the built in current regulator on the grhv78xxx or the 08N100D as an external regulator.

  13. Looking forward to impressions! Also kinda wish they improved more functional things like the headband and whatever was going on with the imbalance. Maybe they did do the latter with the stator update.

  14. Enjoying this quite a lot more than I expected. Can not claim it's a sober assessment though.

  22. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds playlist, starting with Skeleton Tree and working my way backwards. Skeleton Tree is intoxicatingly depressing so matching my mood nicely. The weather outside is beautiful, though, hard to stay depressed when it's so temperate.

  23. Heisenberg, Schrodinger, and Ohm are in a car. They get pulled over. Heisenberg is driving and the cop asks him "Do you know how fast you were going?" "No, but I know exactly where I am" Heisenberg replies. The cop says "You were doing 55 in a 35." Heisenberg throws up his hands and shouts "Great! Now I'm lost!" The cop thinks this is suspicious and orders him to pop open the trunk. He checks it out and says "Do you know you have a dead cat back here?" "We do now, asshole!" shouts Schrodinger. The cop moves to arrest them. Ohm resists.

  24. l cooked Steak a la Stoneham at my dad's tonight. Horace Stoneham was the NY Giants owner who brought the team to SF 60 years ago. My oldest brother came over for dinner and we watched the game while having dinner. My dad took him to the second ever MLB game on the west coast 60 years ago this week. Stoneham got Alfred's Steakhouse -- still in operation -- to make this dish and they added it to their menu. My dad has been copying it ever since. It is strips of steak tossed with spices and flour and fried up with some parsley, green onions and sherry. I'll post the "recipe" if anyone wants it, but it is mostly ingredients and methods but no quantities. Tasty stuff that reminds me of my childhood.

  26. A question about lard... I've just bought a Lodge Cast Iron Skillet and I'm going to try my hand at fried chicken. I wanted to come here for some recommendations on the type of lard (brand names would help too). I've also bought some White Lily flour for the accompanying biscuits with gravy.

  28. It stopped raining long enough to take a couple of pics of the beams we replaced. I'm especially psyched about the LVL that replaced a completely rotten beam perpendicular to the house. And now we've turned into an electronics shop with Dr. Luvdunhill building the crossovers for Otis's speakers.

  29. Stairs went in easy yesterday. Solid as a rock. Not sure these beams holding up our front porch had to be replaced, but we did it anyway.

  30. I was able to get the 450v supply up and running. I did have one error on the board. The current source feeding the 10v reference gets up to 150 degree F, but I can add more copper around it. I think it will be just fine. I was running this with a 110mA load.

  31. Here is the second KGST up and running. I don't recommend trying to build it this small... This one was supposed to be silver but I ordered the wrong chassis though I think it looks kinda nice. The transformer is the BH unit I was having trouble with and here it doesn't complain at all. The amp is drawing about 65W which is a far cry from the 170W or so from the Blue Hawaii. The real problem with something this small is the height. The tubes are simply too tall to use an 80mm chassis but I got away with it by hand selecting the shortest tubes in stock and using 6mm standoffs. This one also uses the KGSSHV mini PSU which is considerably smaller than the KGST unit. Just noticed that there is a typo on the back panel. Bloddy "electostatic headphone amps"...
