  1. No internet for a few days. But we’ve had lots of incredible seafood at Prince Edward Island! Also great brisket sandwich and ice cream!

  3. Croatia is dangerous, very dangerous. It's kind of revealing that 9 of the 12 goals England made were fault or corner kicks.

  6. Sounds like it's even less expensive than the SRX Plus! Which means there are now two good budget amps with different sonic "flavors."

  7. Some observation/measurements. Using 1M (500K + 500K) input bias resistors as shown on the schematic, with 400VDC rails, gives 18mA output current @ 52C (heatsink temperature) per phase per channel. Being a true push-pull circuit, this is equivalent of 36mA output current of a SE circuit (such as KGSSHV and Carbon)!! Also, the bias is at least as much a function of output transistor temperature as of the bias resistor value. After consulting with Kevin and congo5, I experimented with a few different bias resistor values. With 1.05M bias resistors, I got 14.5mA @ 45C and 17.2mA @ 55C. With 1.1M bias resistors, I got 13mA @ 46C and 14mA @ 49C. I settled on 1.05M bias resistors which gives 14.5mA output current and the heatsink, when standing upright, remains at 45C after fully warmed up. This is a great sounding amp. For the parts cost (when you can get them), this ES CFA probably takes the crown of the ROI of all the ES amps I have built. I would also go on the record that I concur with MLA and congo5; as much as I like my Dynalo and Multiamp, it's the dynamic CFA amp I plug my dynamic headphones in when I crave for some music!

  8. RIP Sgt. Saman Kunan who died during the rescue of the 12 soccer players and coach from those flooded caves. What an awful way to go! But in the end, what a wonderful outcome when the last of the trapped were freed and lifted off to the hospital!

  9. Hard to compare them directly as we have not yet built the adapter to drive them off normal bias outputs but the KSE1500 is just a tad bright for me. I fixed it with the EQ with a slight dip at 6khz... As for the sound, the KSE1500 is pretty good, much more in line with the neutral tonality of the 007's over the 009's.

  10. Nice! I had some awesome poutine with duck confit on top yesterday at Duckfat. Great duck fat frites and brisket panini too.

  14. Documentation? heh Which amp? This is a confusing thread because there are at least 3 amps discussed here, maybe more (Kevin or others, correct me if I am wrong): CFA2 (CFP) - current feedback amp. Each board does 1 channel SE, so 2 for stereo SE, 4 for stereo balanced. Kevin later did a mod to this adding current mirrors feeding the servo. People who had built the original noticed that the servo was audible as to quality of opamp. The schematic in Kevin's archive is the older version. CFA3 - current feedback amp for balanced. Not sure if anyone ran boards for this one. Basically a pair of CFA2 amps and ubal-bal board on one pcb. Schematic does not show the current mirror mod as in 1 above uberamp - seems to be a power amp; I've never quite figured this one out Here are the schematics for the CFA2 (current mirror version), and the CFA3. I also attached my BOM for a CFA2. Amp quantity shown is for stereo SE. If going balanced, double it. It should reflect the later current mirror version. You'll also need some GRLVs or other power supplies, etc. cfa2cmirror.pdf cfa3production.PDF CFP2_BOM_update2018march.xlsx EDIT: I also ran across another schematic on Kevin's site which I hadn't seen before: currentsourceamp2.PDF. This seems very similar to the cfa2cmirror schematic, but is described as a transconductance amp.

  15. So yesterday I had to go to Home Depot in Colma (the burbs), and passed a Sizzler restaurant. I didn't even know they were still around! Last time I ate at Sizzler was when I was 17, and my buddy worked there (so naturally he fed me for free). I thought what the hell, pulled in and saw that Malibu Chicken had survived their menu for the last 40 years, so that's what I ordered. The young man informed me that if I was 55 or older I could get the senior plate of said Malibu Chicken. "As a matter of fact" says I... So for a paltry $11.00 I had said Chicken, baked potato, Texas toast and a large salad. That also included the soda fountain. Better than memory, and I left full and happy. Waiter's eyes gleamed at my $5 tip. Oh the simple things!

  18. I'm listening my system; Dac, Classé preamp, CFA/bal and the LCD2. All system on Bal connection. Guys, this is just brutal. Thanks Dr. Gilmore !! I consider that the Dynahi has a more "musical" sound and the CFA/bal has a flatter and more precise sound being a beast in terms of power. Now I am considering whether to do my unbal/bal or to use the CFA directly using the preamp outputs of my Classé.
