  1. I keep making things I don't really need. While looking for a spare power supply around the abandoned office I happened upon several rolls of what I can only call, magnetic whiteboard tape. My brain immediately thought, hmmm, I wonder if the laser can engrave and cut this stuff? So, I brought a scrap home and loaded up my current favorite file. I present, RTJ fridge magnets.

  2. Found a lightly used set of Nobby Nic 27.5x3.0 tires a few towns over so I snatched them up for 40% of the cost of one tire and got them mounted for a ride today. I'll still probably end up picking up a set of studded snow tires but for now, it's fun playing monster truck in the woods.

  3. The baffle is two separate pieces, so it all can be done single sided. I still need to draw up the internal supports, but I do have the dados in the base where they will fit. Did it as a exercise to make something simple in Fusion that I could actually use someday. Who doesn't need more home theater subwoofers?

  4. Put these stock guides on today and cut some 15’ pieces of ash to make stiles and rails for cabinet doors. Worked pretty well, real test will be ripping larger sheets.

  7. That was a hell of a series, made more relevant because I am the same age as the group that Apted followed from age 7 in 1963 through to mid 60's now. But until I read the obituary I did not realise he was a movie director too. RIP Apted.

  11. The Gerbers for my T2 build. My T2 has been working without issues for some months now with heavy usage almost every day so I feel reasonably confident about posting the gerbers I used. (see my previous build posts for more details and photos.). full credit goes to Kevin for the original design and joamat et al. for the modifications to modern components. I simply hacked up the gerbers to fit my build style. The amp gerbers are slight modifications of Joamats mostly modern T2 (his build uses all available components except for 4 of 2sj79 and 8 of 2sk216). My modifications include the addition of screw terminals for all voltages, shortening to fit into a hifi 2000 disapante 2U 400mm deep case, split into separate channels, removal of the pads for the pot, wider clearance between components and the ground plane, instructions on the top side for the adjustment pots. T2 left.zip T2 right.zip (note left and right are swappable I just like the 6922 valves at the front) The power supply is also based on Joamats T2 psu, with a couple of error corrections, there was a missing track and a couple of incorrectly labelled components. also the solid state relay in the HV delay section is obsolete and I replaced the footprint with a standard relay. minus and 250v cleaned .zip cleaned t2 hv and lv bias and delay.zip Feel free to use/modify/ignore. I do find that in the power supplies the 3W resistor close to the film cap and zener ladder gets very hot ~90C on the high voltage tails. I have therefore modified the power supply boards to make them slightly longer and provide more space around this resistor and put some holes in the pcb under it for better air flow. minus and 250v cleaned COMP -560v lengthened.zip cleaned t2 kgsshv hv and lv bias and delay comp lengthened.zip I have ordered a set of these lengthened boards but I have not received them yet or made a build using them so if you are going to use them please check them carefully in case I made a mistake. regards and good building James P.S. looks like next on the list will be a megatron build.

  12. I love those things, btw. I think they are about the best table saw accessory I have found. They are helpful for sheet goods, but where they really shine is in long rips of hardwood. Cutting trim pieces, for instance. as someone whose thumb is still whole because of a sawstop, I would pretty much refuse to touch a non-sawstop table saw.

  13. Looks pretty fucking fancy. Not sure what it does though. I am also doing fine carpentry today. Made it for the French cleat wall for paper towel size, so it looks kind of funny with shop towel roll.

  15. I completed the full modification (output stage and front end) on both channels and listened to the amp briefly. The headphones were Grado GS1000 and Sennheiser HD595, the 8ohm speaker were B&W 602.5 floorstanders. The amplifier performed very well in each case and sounded immaculate. It is a HUGE upgrade over the original and over the output stage mod alone. I compared it against Musical Fidelity X-CANv8, and they performed equaly well. I took some measurements. Here it is delivering 1W and 5W with an 8ohm load: Here is the performance of the fully modified KSA-5 into a 32 ohm load: and into 100ohm:

  17. Have you seen my hands? It's nice that you keep all the woodworking tools in one area. That'll make it easier for me to back a U-Haul truck and load it up quickly, when you move onto a new hobby in a few months.

  20. Took way too long to build the fucking stand for the mitre saw. What a cluster holding nuts inside of tracks with needle nose pliers while trying to feed the bolts through.

  21. Bolted a slightly different one of these (than I just sold) together 😅 I need to revise my little autoswitcher board to make sure the negative input is grounded when the RCA is input is chosen - a difference between the two boards. Also, interesting way to hide the front panel screws, note the two small set screws I just measured them and they perform as stated. Will try and listen to them this weekend and then back on the bench to get the inputswitcher working...

  28. With the complex design you chose for your first big project, I'd say you did pretty well. I would cut the trim long, then put it against the actual box to mark the angles in place. But that's just experience. That comes naturally. What doesn't come natural is the eye for design and the ability to turn that design into an actual object. You seem to have that in spades. Most would have built an easy square box. Kudos! As for putty to match the Purple Heart, simply make some Purple Heart sawdust, mix with wood glue into a thick paste and putty all gaps before it dries. Over putty, then sand level after dry.

  30. I never thought I'd post in this thread, but climate change changes things. It's been snowing for 3 days and temperatures are rather low, so we have Madrid, an absolutely unprepared city, covered by snow layer of about 3ft. The problems are that they don't have the machines to remove the snow from the main roads, streets and avenues, nor can spread salt to avoid ice formation. I'm expecting absolute caos and confinement for about 2 weeks considering the temperatures forecast for the next week, most days below 0ºC (32ºF). I'm fearing food shortage. Not even my 83 years old aunt has ever seen such snowing
