  2. So this started a few weeks ago when someone found a picture of my 100 watt night light. Its an 833A tube. (new picture below) And he wanted a megatron made from 8 of these. (10 vac at 10 amps each tube) so 800 watts filament power just for the output tubes. By the time you make the +/- 1kv power supplies running at 40ma, and the power for the 300b driver tubes etc, way past the limit for usa 120v 20 amp service which is 1850 watts. And with the top of the tube at silly and dangerous high voltage... bad idea. So i started looking for slightly less silly alternatives. I think the 211 tube fits the bill. running with +/-750v power supplies at 35ma. So a megatron with 211 output tubes, 300b drivers and a high gain input tube. unless someone has a better idea.

  3. Was in the mid-40s and sunny today, took the bike off the trainer and decided to get the heck outside.

  4. This might be too crazy for me but why not go further. I happen to have a couple of 30kWh, 400V battery packs so a DC-DC converter and make it "portable"?

  5. I saw this on a friend's FB page and I can't stop singing it in my head and I have played it many times in the last few days. The three part harmony, Rick Moranis' guitar solo, Eugene Levy's fake teeth and John Candy's wig and catch in his throat are all hilarious. These guys are so damn funny and SCTV was amazing. Decent!

  6. Shouldn't that be "aft", given the nautical setting. And if the sailors were dismissed for being naughty, would they be (dishonorably) discharged Sea Men?

  7. French toast for more syrup tasting. Three batches have some differences but all are delicious.

  9. This morning I saw a rafter of wild turkeys by the side of the road. Three toms and more than a dozen hens. Impressive collection although it had a sort of Handmaid's Tail feel to it the way the toms were acting.

  10. I also watched it and the documentary the bloody 100th right after it. My dad was a egineer on a B17 during WW2 so I had some interest in the show. I also got to fly in a B17 at a air show with my son at a air show at the air power museum on Long Island

  13. Finished Masters of the Air. Lovely show. I’m glad they made it. A most worthy successor to Band of Brothers.

  17. An interesting take on the fall of Kodak. Not new, but not a perspective I'd seen before. https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/the-rise-and-fall-of-kodaks-moment According to Kamal: “The people taking pictures suddenly changed, from 60% women to 70% men. Kodak didn't know how to market to men. But even if they could get them to buy, they didn't want to, because men don't print. Unlike women, they hadn't been socialised in the role of family archivist."

  18. Love to pull this out every now and then, always a long-term favorite. DSD format is better than regular-rez....

  19. I checked prices, and I need to be more judicious with my film shots: it’s more than a dollar every time I hit the shutter. I had mentally been thinking more like 50 cents, as I didn’t realize development and scanning was $20+, no prints. I remember doing one hour development (I worked as a photo developer in high school and college) with 4” prints for $6, but of course that was in 1999!

  22. I just learned today that Hinton Battle passed in January. Among many roles of note, he was the original Scarecrow in The Wiz, and more recently the slick, dancing demon (and choreographer) in the Once More With Feeling episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The marquee lights of Broadway will dim on March 12th in his honor.
