  1. I use to really like the OP21 (port finish). But it has been years. I use to drink it when it was under $100 a bottle. I cannot vouch for the current bottlings and no clue if it is worth the current price. You are correct naaman. HP25 is subtle, 18 is a better drinker. Is the 30 worth the extra over the 25? Well for me no, but a bottle of 30, that you have a little but over years can really come alive. First out of a new bottle I found a little harsh, with some burnt notes. As it oxidats over years, those things can integrate into some lovely things. But I have a lot of open bottles for years. So I get to play this game. Yeah and Serge at whisky fun is a great source. I don't agree with all his notes and ratings, but they are honest and true to what he tasted. Probably should have jumped on the BB40 bandwagon. Oh well - I think I will be fine. [emoji482]

  3. Yeah didn't even try for the George T Stagg this year (or last).. I have a small pile of early bottles - good enough... I am tired of fighting for whisky - and waiting in beer lines.
  4. These are little more on the hearty side but not dense as in thick or sticky - adding the porridge give more hearty texture and not as much lift. It also makes it moist - but on the good side - slightly chewy and super crisp crust with the added protein. Cheers
  5. Yes I have still have been baking, a lot.. Starting to get the hang of this thing. Something new that came out well, thought I would share. This is a combo bulgur flour that I ground up at home, along with oat flour, that I made with adding bulgur porridge as well. At a high hydration.. Really nice bake and flavor Good eats with unsalted cultured butter. Cheers

  20. So the Islay Ferry actually goes out of Kennacraig - on the Mull of Kintyre (https://youtu.be/AcZVRiB9AQk) It is a trek to get from Glasgow to the Ferry - 2.5 hours. The Early ferry run would be a stretch. (oh and you can fly) Campbeltown (Springer and the other springer family beverages) is about an hour down the road from the ferry dock. So it maybe possible to head from Glasgow - play around - end up in Campbeltown for fun. Either stay down there - or catch the late ferry over to Islay. Note - if Islay is on the table book accommodations early, it is a small and popular isle, If the group is big enough I would say a house or cabin. Otherwise there are accommodations in Bowmore and Port Ellen that can work, (Lochside Hotel has a nice whisky bar) I love the highland area as well around Aberlour and Rothes (but that is another story all together)
  21. The only real telling thing is that it is listed in both Deutsche Mark and Euro This would not have been done before 1999 - and I would assume not to far after 2002 (when the Euro replaced the currency all together) Fixed rate since 31 December 1998 Replaced by €, non cash 1 January 1999 Replaced by €, cash 1 January 2002-28 February 2002 The conversion on the stamp is at the fixed rate - € = DM 1.95583 I don't know the MO 176 code - looked for it. Could be something for the year (MO) and 176th day.
