  1. Was it directly in the path of the exhaust vents of the laptop? The only reason I ask is because I've done that with my phone, thought it was overheating, when in fact, it was just convection.
  2. Lollers, long live Brexit 1776!
  3. If you put them on any kind of stand, yes, otherwise they'd be up in the rafters, no? But I live in a crummy non-bottom-floor apartment, I'm pretty sure I'd get assassinated if I even bought them. I think a separate dwelling would come before $125,000 monitors. That said, even if I had a proper studio with room treatments and whatnot, I'd still use them with the theory that more drivers with smaller travel == more linear bass, I.e. for deep bass, not exaggerated bass. Mostly. ?
  4. I've been eating these a lot lately (this one and the caramelized onion one): I usually dip them in Sambal Oelek, but haven't been feeling well since Sunday night, so just garlic & black pepper today.
  5. Nicely done, especially the keyboard tray. You're quite handy! I love your headphone hanger, too!
  6. I didn't think you were supposed to eat lava. (wanders off to look up the Turkish meaning of 'lavas')
  7. Lookin' good! I have my monitors really high, I just put them upside down and angle them downwards so that my ears are in the plane of the tweeters.
  8. Listening now for the third time.
  9. Old Fire, Songs from the Haunted South on Tidal -- love this, funearally slow, sparse, heavy, momentous, post-rock-y, gorgeous, loads of atmosphere. Imagine 4AD meets late period Talk Talk meets ...the variety of vocalists puts me in mind of one of Stephen Merritt's projects. Superb. Recommended auditioning.
  10. Colin will want to know how long that takes to turn into meat.
  11. for Chester He saved a lot of troubled kids by giving them angry music.
  12. Someone on Facebook said it was a moose rolling a spliff. It is obviously a baby elephant...rolling a spliff. ...with chicken legs for back legs.
  13. So the JBLs I ordered got canceled, so before I ordered them again from a different vendor, I investigated more fully something I stumbled upon in the interim: my Walkman has a noise-canceling feature built-in! It's designed for propietary Sony headphones, but none of them are of the caliber of the MDR-Z7. I tried some Focals I happened to have on hand, but it amplified external noise rather than canceling it, so I presume the polarity is inverted, does that sound right? I already contacted Sony, and they don't have an adapter so that I can use the MDR-Z7, so I'm thinking of buying a cheap pair of the noise-canceling for their microphones and hacking it for my use case. Thoughts? Or should I just order another pair of noise-canceling headphones of my choice?
  14. There was a thread on sh.tv regarding Sabbath's heaviest riff, so I'm listening to a variety of Sabbath. (My vote goes to the bridge riff in "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" -- the third riff, essentially.)
  15. RIP Also, guitar maker Bill Collings
  16. Fluevog! Thank you for resurrecting this thread, I was trying to remember that name. Dusty needs one pair of wild-ass shoes.
  17. Not bad. Most archtops will sound better, due to having a top that resonates like an acoustic, but...that's alright, I've begun plugging in again, so at night, I've been practicing with a Vox amPlug.
