For anyone that may be interested in attending the meet or hitting me in the back of the head with a shovel, the "official" announcement for the Illinois meet is up on that other site HERE. Feel free to post there, or if more appropriate, here. Thank you for your time. Carry on.

Mac Mini or Studio Hybrid?
The files were transcoded to ALAC from FLAC using dbpoweramp. The files play fine on my ASUS or on my iMac using itunes. The files work fine if they are located on the ATV's internal drive but not when they are located on the external drive. The internal drive is too small to hold my library. Network attached storage can be a problem at work as I do not have any control over the network, and as far as I can tell, neither does anyone else.

- Mac Mini or Studio Hybrid?
Well I thought I'd provide an update. I used patchstick to hack the ATV OS and it was semi successful. I was able to get it to recognize an external drive attached to the USB port and I can get it to play individual songs through the files menu. However, none of the original apps. or third party apps (xbmc and boxee) will play the songs (ALAC rips). Based upon the error message and what others have reported on-line, the prognosis does not appear hopeful. Also I just picked up a refurb Mac Mini which I will use as my server. Hopefully it will sound as good as the ATV. It may be my imagination but the work system sounds much better using the ATV/ALAC as source compared to the windows workstation/FLAC as source. Could also be that the Pop/Pulse USB/AES/EBU converter sucks. That being said, I am mightily impressed with the ATV and when using it for its intended purpose it is an amazing device. So I am definitely keeping it but it will be moved back home to work with the iMac and the Sony big screen.- Happy Birthday HighLife!

Ooooo, nice. I'll be interested in your real-world experience. I'm also on Verizon and currently also have a Moto Q so I am intrigued.- ZepSaph's musings on meet impressoins of various headphones, the HD800 and Jap/Pop
You don't get it. Your list is an epic fail, even for its proposed purpose, because your comparisons are not valid. Any comparison between phones that doesn't control for recording, source and amp IS SERIOUSLY COMPROMISED OR COMPLETELY INVALID. I doubt that your comparisons were done side by side so you are also relying on your audio memory. That is why judging pieces of kit is a long-term process and not necessarily easy (or cheap). Lastly, even if you control all the other variables, there is no guarantee that the list would be unchanged if you then changed recording, source, or amplifier. I'm sorry, but the world is just not as simple as you would like it.- HD800? Another rumor?
I guess we all have our preferences. Since much of my music lives in the midrange, I need a phone that gets it right. The HD650 doesn't do as good a job for me as some of my other phones (K340, MS-Pro, hell even the recabled K701) so it doesn't get as much play time. So when I get to listen to the HD800, I will be listening in the midrange.- HD800? Another rumor?
I have no idea, but hope springs eternal. In reality, I doubt that it will have the speed of a good electrostat, but if it can meld the best qualities of an electrostat and dynamic, then I'm in. Like you, it will require my hearing it first. Time to check on airline tickets to LA- Happy birthday LFF
Happy birthday Luis ...- HD800? Another rumor?
Ryan: I think you nailed the weakness of the 650 dead on. I too find its major weakness to be an uninvolving midrange. If the HD800 has anywhere near the speed and clarity of the HE60 with the OII's midrange, then I can see one in my future. If it also has the OII's bass control and depth (when properly amplified) then it's a no brainer for me.- ZepSaph's musings on meet impressoins of various headphones, the HD800 and Jap/Pop
