  1. Jonokuchi, from Pete's home page. His latest single ended desktop amp, complete with boards(on his ebay store), Edcor transformer package, and Front Panel Express info and files for the enclosure. A very neat looking build. Hat's off to Pete.
  2. I can't find my notes, Chris. I am pretty sure that what I wanted to do, was to see just how low the bias could be set and still sound good and maintain a decent looking output waveform. You are right, the Vgs of the mosfets will determine the drain current. I don't see how the number of output mosfets would matter, with or without the buffer. I don't have the proto any longer, so it may be a while before I could do anything to help out much. To my memory, I used the values that you bolded in the quote above to get down around something like ~2v to 2.5v Vgs. I'm sure I was using just one sigma(2" heatsinks) to power everything, and a 162VA toroid with it. I think the sigma is good for about 1 amp with stock heatsinks. I think I had much better success when applying a load to the output as I was trying to get everything adjusted up.
  3. What I used was for a single pair of output mosfets, one p and one n, and was an effort to lower the bias as much as possible. The fact is, that these mosfets seem to like higher bias, and the output will distort rather quickly as the bias is lowered. I will try to scare up my notes tomorrow, but I am thinking that the bare minimum bias to maintain a good output would be 150mA+.
  4. Happy Birthday Mr. Fantastic.
  5. ^I saw that you saw it, and thought it was cool.
  6. Happy anniversary of your birthing.
  7. Very cool, and super fast on the iphone. On the messages, go to your user name at the upper right, pull down menu, click "messenger" and then when you refresh it will show all messages(for me anyway).
  8. I am interested to see how your stuff turns out, and how you like it. Especially the clear stuff. Does this place have anything to see online? I can't remember from where you were talking about it, but on the translucent plexiglass thing, have you maybe thought about sandwiching two pieces, with the frosted/translucent side captured in the middle? The edges could then be welded and then fired with a torch to smooth them out.... or not.
  9. I remember seeing that the minimum air gap for 1500vdc is .008", somewhere. This part has a 2500vrms insulation withstand voltage between all 3 pins and heatsink.
  10. I believe it was Marc that inquired about a terminal block with clear cover. Here while back. terminal items - Get great deals on Home, Car Garage items on eBay Stores!
  11. Happy Birthday Reks. I couldn't decide what to get you so I'm building you an amp.
  12. Dinny, it's not that the transport sends a 01110010 and the dac gets something else. Obviously we hear a good sound out of the dac, so it's getting the right information. According the the jitter crowd, it's the timing of said bits, as sent from the transport, and along the way, and hence all the talk about clocks and coax, etc. The computer and transport crowd are trying to do the equivalent of adding a heavier flywheel and smoother motor drive to the turntable. Large variations in timing could be interpreted by the listener as the same thing as randomly moving the speaker back and forth, closer and further away from the listener. Because all the digital information for both channels is sent "one after another" in a serial fashion, then small timing errors could also change the stereo image. Could means I don't know, that's what I have read and studied. From time to time.
  13. Now owning both the Creative Zen Aurvana and Sony MDR-EX85LP , I can wholeheartedly recommend neither.
  14. Stoolgarden. Schroeder. The company formerly known as Shiite. Second amp in a series would be deuce.
  15. You gonna post something about when and where David?
  16. Me too. I meant your newsletter. Sir. . I found this site pretty interesting and full of info, if you dig thermionic emission., and Pete Millett has a full library of books that he and others have scanned into his site. I love free books online. You prolly seen Doug give links to the Navy NEETS modules, which also contain material on tubes, and a bit more visual stuff. I'll think about the Encyclopedia Galactica, and how/where to go about it.
