purk
I'm contemplating on getting my 105 a Modwright treatment. Dan is having a 20% right now and I already own the tube rectified PSU, so it will only cost me $1500 + shipping. I'm a big fan of his work and my Modwright Denon 3910 still best the stock 105 handily sound wise.
skullguise
Purk (or others), also check out EVS & Ric Shultz. I've had 2 modded players from him, as well as his self-designed DAC and an amp. Great stuff as well, might be able to go cheaper. He doesn't do tubes though..... Aura
I'm up above 250 blu-rays now. Netflix is for TV, much prefer to use discs for movies still.

Completely understand. I'm in the same boat but it makes sense for me b/c I'm short changing my SACD collection by not able to play it on my NAD M51. Plus my M51 isn't any better than my old Modwright Denon 3910 and his new mods should sound significantly better. I plan to sell my M51 afterward however to recover the cost of the upgrade. luvdunhill
That comes on disc? Well, you misspelled two words, but yes that's how it all happens.

TMoney
So this is interesting re: archiving SACDs using the Oppo. http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f11-software/sacd-ripping-using-oppo-or-pioneer-yes-its-true-29251/
purk
That's great news. Glad that I already have a PS3 ripper so I don't have to hunt down these other players!

purk
Talked to their rep today and their new 4K Blu-ray should be out at the end of the year. No replacement plan for the Oppo HA-1.
kevin gilmore
bought a pioneer bdp80fd brand new for $300 from b&h people should buy them now before they are all gone. SO MUCH EASIER than Piece of Shit overheating version 3 garbage and if you have a modified PS3, time to dump it before its worth absolutely nothing. also have tested 103,103d,105,105d in case you have one of these. even with the multiregion hack, still works Edited August 2, 2016 by kevin gilmore
luvdunhill
I have a 103 on the way agreed on all points.
skullguise
Thanks Kevin, just ordered; I had originally heard of some issues on some of the Pioneers (I think maybe CA said the 180 didn't work), so glad to have that option. I already have a lot of SACD rips, but always great to have this for the others I have on disc only.
kevin gilmore
the 180 has a different chipset and will not work. the bdp80fd is also known as a 170 or 160 outside the usa and works
purk
Is it simple to rip compared to the PS3 KG? How about a ripping speed?
guzziguy
Google'd "pioneer bdp80fd " to learn more about it and noticed that Best Buy has them for $266.99 and even cheaper for open box examples. Amazon has one for $263.51. Free shipping at both Best Buy and Amazon. Hopefully you can get BH to price match one of these.

kevin gilmore
once you have the usb stick prepared, trivially easy. About 2.7mb/sec i will be moving the pioneer under my main monitor so its going to be way easier than ps3 about 30 megabit per second on a gigabit network Edited August 3, 2016 by kevin gilmore
luvdunhill
Is there a good source of info on doing the multi region back on the 103 that still is compatible with the SACD ripping "feature"?
luvdunhill
Any idea if a firmware upgrade for the 103 will remove the ripping feature? Perhaps I need to create an account on CA :/
luvdunhill
The answer is "Yes, it still works". Sweet, very happy with this method!
