Back to PH this time I am hung-up on this song: Crying Wolf You turn out the lights and sit alone, trying to pretend that it’s anguish, start at the ring of a telephone, throw down all your food at the banquet, keep a close eye on all you own, while leaving it all to languish…. Mahler actually transposed DATM for orchestra around the turn of the century. It was criticized for lacking in intimacy, so he cancelled performance plans with it...after his death, his wife found it, released it in 1984. It works on some levels for DATM. The orchestra/double basses mainly add to the driving intensity of the music. I prefer the quartet by a good margin. I still enjoy this version for what it is though. American - not sure who transcribed this one. This type of song suffers with this arrangement. It just sounds over saturated. I do like American just not this version. Not sure why it was on their active play list so much, but it was kind of surreal. I got to liking him - I even got our driver to burn me a couple of Chris Rea CDs.
