^ Great pick up.

Regretting not hitting RSD, but from a thrift store visit a month ago - Frantic Percussion (in stereo-stereo). This works for Saturday afternoon house cleaning.

IMG_3416.jpeg

Full album:

You guys are on fire - Three things I have not heard before - and three bangers.

Mammal Hands - was a really nice set - tight percussion throughout and very theatrical. (will explore more)

Dada - was not what I expected, but I really liked the vibes and the stories were good. Will check out American Highway Flower.

Frantic Percussion - was too short - not on QOBUZ so had to settle for the YT needledrop. Everything I wanted from the Stereo Stereo.

:dan:

This is why I like this thread so much - Maybe not the Mozart Ass licking.. but still.

If you liked Mammal Hands, I think you'll also like Vega Trails' latest album. Composed by saxophonist Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands) and Milo Fitzpatrick (Portico Quartet)

Els | Vega Trails

I love the Rhodes/Piano played by Taz Modi:

I still listen to their first album very often.

Tremors in the Static (Limited Edition - Black Vin

PD. I'm glad to be back

For Dada, Puzzle is their definitive album (albeit in a pretty short career) and would be my recommended next album listen

Trying Angine de Poitrine’s Vol. 1  noseless.

I discovered them in January... I like the drums, but I admit I still find it hard to listen to them.

Punch Brothers just dropped a new track.

New album out at the end of the week. This track really features new member (I am a fan) Brittany Haas on fiddle.

Edit: oops I meant to drop this in the Video thread, oh well, leaving it.

GoGo Penguin "Necessary Fictions"

Gogo Penguin - Necessary Fictions - Cd – Vinyl Tap

The interplay between the drummers of GoGo Penguin and Mammal Hands is fascinating: Rob Turner, Jesse Barrett and Jon Scott.

I consider all three drummers to be great, with fantastic sounds and grooves that give both trios a lot of character. I love the tracks where they play syncopated rhythms... microtextures or simply seem to be off-beat before returning to the correct tempo.

So many reason...

Gershwin: Rhapsody In Blue, Second Rhapsody for Piano with Orchestra, Preludes, Unpublished Piano Works

Gershwin: Rhapsody In Blue, Second Rhapsody for Piano with Orchestra, Preludes, Unpublished Piano Works
by Michael Tilson Thomas (1985)

Example:

RIP MTT - a big influence on my early classical music exploration. I didn't have any classical listeners in my circle growing up. I found it on my own with the help of Columbia House record deals, and lots of CBS Masterworks recordings. This being one of my early purchases, so much more jazz inspired than I had heard before. I became a fan. Michael was on my short list of recordings to look for.  I was lucky enough to move to the bay area for work and was able to see him in action at least a handful of times in the 90's.

In the queue for today....

Beethoven: Symphony No. 7

Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto / Saint-Saëns: Violin Concerto No. 3

Beethoven: Symphony No. 3 & Contredanses, WoO 14

Orff: Carmina Burana

Not bad at all....  I have read in some forums that people are saying how much Ian has lost his voice....you can see some strain there, but still pretty great.....

Now I want to check out the song they did with Alison Moyet!

I admit I don't listen to much Spanish music (ironic, right?), but she has something...

Jeremy Dutcher - Tiny Desk

"Jeremy Dutcher came to the Tiny Desk with sparkling, purple streams of glitter draped around his shoulders. Then he set his iPad on our Yamaha upright piano, not to read his score as pianists do these days, but to play a centuries-old wax cylinder recording of a song sung in the incredibly rare language of Wolastoq."
