Wild and Crazy Go Nuts!

  1. Started by krrm,

For the first time in about 8 years I played football (or soccer to most of you) with some collegues at work. It didn't go very well, after about 15 minutes I got a complete achilles tendon rupture in the right foot. I wasn't even playing very hard, just kicked the ball away from the goal. And I was sooo looking forward to play football again. Untill the operation on Wednesday I shall do as little as possible, just keep my foot high. It will take some 8 - 10 weeks with easy going and crutches to get well. The good thing is that it will be completly healed, but I'm afraid I will be bored long before that happens. Luckily I got a lot of unread books. And my sister w…

  2. This plug in hybrid looks great. It should be out by 2010. They claim that on a 6 hour charge you should be able to go at least 40 miles. So I was really bored at work, and decided to look at some optical illusions, and found ways to see (or not see I suppose) where your blind spot is. Its fun! Just close one eye, focus on the dot or the cross, and move your head closer to the screen and eventually the dot (or the cross depending on what you originally focused on) will disappear! Oh and if you want it to work you have to look at the left object with your left eye closed or the right object with your right eye closed. This one below is cool because it shows how your brain is remarkably good at filling in missing information.

  5. I hope you had a great birthday yesterday Antonio and that your wife showered you with gifts, wine. and love! I knew your birthday was this weekend when I was traveling and had planned to maybe post early on Friday night our time to get the ball rolling, but in the course of taking a redeye, dealing with decrepit in-laws, and other distractions I somehow convinced myself yesterday that your birthday was today! Oh well, you know we all love you and it's the thought that counts as they say! ¡A su salud!

Well, the wife came to me this morning and tells me she wants to start an online business. Needless to say I know next to nothing about getting started, whats' involved and most importantly how much money this is gonna cost me to put together for her. Wonder if anyone here has experience with such a thing and can give me any advice?

  13. Just read the following interview of the founder of Dwolla - an online payment company that has a very simple fee structure. Twenty-five cents. Transaction for $50? $.25 fee. Transaction for $5000? $.25 fee. The catch? No credit cards. But read the article. Those of us who have sold or bought high ticket items have been through the PayPal fee shit, and these guys seem to want to beat that. I have zero affiliation with them, other than I just opened an account after reading the info. So take a look - it might be very useful. I saw it originally on BoingBoing. http://www.businessi...w-years-2011-11

  17. Dave over at the EEVBlog put up this informative post on the economics of selling niche electronics. As our headphone stuff is about as niche as it gets, I figure many of the points he talks about in this article are going to apply. Worth a read! http://www.eevblog.com/2014/05/28/the-economics-of-selling-your-hardware-project/

It looks like the internet infrastructure is starting to buckle under the strain of increased usage. YouTube is setting standard definition as the default resolution next month and Sony is slowing down PlayStation downloads in Europe. I'm not going to feel too smug about amassing a library of CDs and Blu-rays, just a little. What are you guys doing to adjust to staying at home? I plan on getting a lot more reading and writing done. Unfortunately, the gyms have been shut down so I'll have to stick to running, bicycling, etc. to get my exercise.

I?m considering running an alternative OS to Windows XP. I?m thinking one of the Linux variants. I have never used Linux so I am unsure how to proceed. So I have a few questions. I?d want a dual boot XP/Linux. Does anyone know of good tutorial web sites concerning this? Any opinions on the different versions of Linux? Does anyone know of music software for Linux (Open source) Burning/Ripping/Playing? Can I put both boot sections on one drive? I do have two drives so it?s not an issue. Any sites listing open source (Free) applications for Linux? Is Linux what I should be looking at? Thanks
