  1. EU fines Intel record $1.45B for sales tactics - Yahoo! Finance Anyone have more background on this? This quote is pretty bizarre. "The European Commission also told Intel to immediately cease some sales practices in Europe, though it refused to say what those were. Intel said it was "mystified" about what it was supposed to change but would comply with the "extremely ambiguous" EU order." Is it kosher to order someone to stop doing something and then not tell them exactly what they need to stop doing? Moreover the money goes to the EU and not to AMD...?

Well it seems our Christmas eve dinner is growing by the minute. I need to buy cigars for three Christmas eve guests and a Christmas gift for a dinner guest. All smokers are experienced smokers not the brand conscious once a quarter types like me. My budget is $80, with about $50 allocated for the gift the rest for Christmas eve. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

I have about 5 GB I want to download off Rapidshare. All broken up into 100 mb file sizes. Given the 50 kb/s restriction and only one download at a time with the free account this is going to take ages. Does anyone know the current download limit for the premium account? June 26 their FAQ said 10 GB per day, but I want to make sure that's right since a download limit isn't even mentioned on their comparison page (comparing free and premium perks). Just want to be sure before I get the three day trial, hope my CC doesn't charge me extra for USD -> EU conversion \

Can a cat play patty-cake? Pawsibly! Can anything be smarter than a cat that can count? Yes, a spelling bee! Did you hear about the cat who drank 5 bowls of water? He set a new lap record. Did you hear about the cat who swallowed a ball of wool? She had mittens. How did a cat take first prize at the bird show? He just jumped up to the cage, reached in, and took it. How do cats eat spaghetti? The same as everyone else - they put it in their mouths! How do cats end a fight? They hiss and make up. How do you know if your cat has eaten a duckling? I've been thinking about getting one for my back porch, which would probably stay there all year long. Would be anchored in to cement columns so no need for something with a built in stand. The porch isn't screened in, so it would attract bugs and dust, and would probably collect water as well. Thus I'm leaning towards simple rope hammock. No particular price point, just wondered if anyone has a hammock that they like to lounge in and would recommend. Some rather interesting products out there, ranging all over the place in terms of price: http://gearpatrol.com/2013/07/19/big-swingers-five-best-hammocks-2/ http://www.realsimple.com/home-organizing/decora…

For those who lived in the Chicagoland area in the 1980s or knew the music/club scene there, I have a question. In 1982, my brother was in business school at Northwestern and my family went to visit him that summer. Using his ID, I went with him and another older brother to see a young band named Survivor, with a month or so of the Rocky 3 release date. They played at a place in DesPlaines according to my brother, and it was a redneck bar or hall with hay bales around the perimeter for seating. Does that place sound familiar to anyone? Bonus question: We also saw 1910 Fruitgum Company at a club in Chicago on that same trip. Anybody know where that might have been? N…

  17. Same rig I've been using for over a year. FLACs in foobar -> Adcom GDC-750 CDP/DAC -> Gilmore Lite + DPS -> HD-650s/Blue Dragon Mk IIs, all the electronics being feed cleaned power via a Monster HTS-5100 MK II. Total cost to me: around $1500. What makes me a true head-fi heretic is that I have resisted upgraditis and FOTM syndrome. That is, until I sent a large-ish payment to one Mr. Takei for some bleeding edge fuglyphones and accompanying boat anchor. One pair of cans doubles the cost of my rig.

  18. Dave over at the EEVBlog put up this informative post on the economics of selling niche electronics. As our headphone stuff is about as niche as it gets, I figure many of the points he talks about in this article are going to apply. Worth a read! http://www.eevblog.com/2014/05/28/the-economics-of-selling-your-hardware-project/
