Headphones

I was just informed by Alex that the right driver on my K1000 is "kaputz". The serial number is 6191 and I would like to know if anyone here has a K1000 with only one driver working and would be wiling to sell it "as is". As you can imagine my idea would be to make one working K1000 out of the two. Ideally your K1000 should be a mid production unit, hopefully with a serial number in the 5000 to 7000 range. Sure would appreciate hearing from someone. HELP! Thanks.

I know this was probably endlessly hashed out on HF back in the day, but I'm late to the HP1000 party and most of what I have been able to unearth over there is just the usual clueless blithering. So I ask you fine gents: Is there generally held to be a significant difference in sound quality between the HP1s and HP2s? I really, really dig the HP1s I got from Jim and I'm thinking thoughts. You know the ones.

Anyone heard these? Are they worth a shit? I may order some just because they look intriguing. I would be using a beefed up Raptor with Tung Sol and Telefunken tubes and an EAR HP4 to drive them with an Esoteric DV-60 as a transport and Reimyo DAP 999. Any opinions would be great before ordering more stuff I won't keep and lose money on. Looks like I need to update my signature, all the heavy duty Esoterics are in my home system now.

I finally managed to get a few hours to myself to head into the city, have a relaxing lunch and try out the W1000X in the Best Denki, which has a high-end headphone listening table. When I arrived, they were plugged into the AT-HA2002 and sourced from a Sony SACD player. I didn't note the model as I've become a source snob and consider just about anything sigma-delta to sound harsh and digital. I have a pair of wooden MS1's which I find incredible for listening to electric guitar rock. I tried a pair of RS2is but they didn't accurately portray the tone of the guitar (IMO.) So what would be next to try as an upgrade: HF2's, RS1's, or MS-pros ?

I haven't spent much time with the HD600 and now that I've sold the HD800, the 650 sounds a bit boomy. Granted, it is headphiled, but I suspect it would still sound boomy if I were to replace the grills. Any thoughts re the 600? I haven't spent much time with it. And what would be a good price used?

I am new in STAX but already fall in love with it after a few audition. Now I like to spend about US$ 500 - 600, yeah it is not enough to get the best Stax, but maybe you guys here can help me to decide what to chose with that amount that your experience has the best in sound quality. My interest is a light jazz and some classic music and maybe some pop music too. I do own a Qinpu A-6000 Hybrid amplifier, that might enough to drive an energizer. Guys, just notice today that my HF-2 emits a buzzing sound when the notes hit a mid note. Like when the piano note hits, the driver buzz. Anyone experience this before ? Is there a way to fix this or should send to Grado for repair ? I hate sending it cause I live in the other part of the world.....but if push comes to shove...... Thanks

Thanks to the Craigslist ad Collin posted I got a super deal on a pair of HE60's that I couldn't pass up. Met up with the guy locally and the transaction went super smooth. It was interesting, I asked him why he wanted to sell them, and he said that he has a pair of Stax Lambdas (didn't ask what model) and that his older brother whom he got this HE60 from actually owns 3 more. Hi all. I am looking at purchasing better headphones to justify purchasing the Bryston DAC, which i purchased to justify purchasing Audioquest Cheetah cables... I currently own 650, 595, 701 and shure 530. My amps are Cayin HA1 and BCL. I am currently loving the K701 with the Cayin amp. I'd like to try my electret with a different box, but I'm not too familiar with electret transformer boxes. (I'd like to hear whether the box is what limits the bass output.) Is this thre-pin connector common?

A W10Ltd was offered in trade for my RS-1 at the other site. Have not found much info on this phone in the hour or so I looked. I'll research more later. His description "these are the limited edition woodies, released after the original w10vtg. it's a different sounding beast, cleaner and more focused than the vintage. bought them used here in excellent condition with original cardboard box. Wonder if anyone would care to comment on their interpretation of the sound ... especially as it relates to the W5000 or AD2000, or even compared to the RS-1.
