So I read through EdipisReks' thread here, but I have already brought back one thread from the dead and decided better of it this time. So here is a new thread. Just got the MB Quart QP55x's yesterday. Got them through eBay for $45 shipped. Brand new, unopened box. I mainly got them for the velour pads to put on my Sextett's. Anyway, currently I have been listening to them and so far I am impressed. Build Decent quality, not as high quality as AKG or Senn's; but they should hold up to plenty of abuse. All plastic and retro looking. I won't say that they look "cool", but c'mon does that really matter anyway. The cord is higher quality than any Rat Shack cord, but n…

Thanks to Alex (ayt999) I've had a pair of R10's on loan for a good amount of time now and figured it was time to post some impressions. The R10's have wonderful detail retrieval and are one of the most resolving phones around. This is of course a double edged sword as it can be great on well recorded music but absolutely brutal on poor recordings. The R10's tonality which I do feel to be quite natural sounding is likely their best attribute. Probably the most talked about attribute of the R10's is their sound stage, yes it's huge and yes it gives the listener that sense of being completely enveloped in sound. That being said, I do not think it is very natural, in fact on…

my favorite headphone is the hd650, properly amped. i've not extensively heard the hd595 before today, but i just grabbed a pair from a local shop and have been listening to them straight out of my macbook headphone out, and i gotta say, these are a fantastic hd650 low power compliment! they have a very similar flavor... i think they actually sound better than the 650's straight from the hp out. i think i've finally found my ksc75 replacement. anyway, that's all i wanted to say.... mjb

  4. So I've had these headphones for a bit and have used them with my laptop for a while, and I notice that in quiet songs especially there'll be crackles and static noises far too often for me to like. I use these while connected to my phone, however, and I have no static issues at all. My previous headphones attached to the laptop didn't have any issues either. Do I just have a defective pair of headphones? And if so, can I do anything about it? (They're refurbished so idk if that matters or not)Rufus MapQuest UpToDate

I thought I might see what they're all about. What do you all think is a fair price for a pair in excellent shape?

  6. OK, I admit it. I have never been true "audiophile." Gnawed around the edges of it, and left rat turds (posts on these forums I guess). Rodent fixation ... sorry. But I do like consider and try new ("to me") stuff. If you can get by the gag reflex that many audio-fools have about EQ being the work of Satan, here is a question: Do you use, or have you tried, some form of active EQ with your headphones? Being the recent owner of a pair of Stax Lambda (two pair actually)...I ran across this thread (url if interested): http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/413900/how-to-equalize-your-headphones-a-tutorial This for me was the ideal audio project because (A) it off…

Seems random, but I was looking into Senn IE80s, and came across this: http://www.headphonestore123.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=150 Everything screams it's too good to be true, and the domain name doesn't give me much confidence either, but still. It's cheap. And their prices on the other headphones aren't quite as discounted as these. Anyone want to just tell me straight up it's a scam before I buy these one night in a drunken stupor?

The Register The Admiral Touch features a 2.4-inch touchscreen display that you can poke and stroke to use the Android OS to access the wireless headset's different modes, adjust volume, and switch tracks. I have had my eyes on a super.fi 5 for a while, until I almost grabbed the triple.fi yesterday. Now I want a triple.fi.. but not at $400. So I am a bit worried about the form factor (that is what did me in for the er4, I couldn't stand it). Headroom has a nice price on the bstock super.fi 3, at $45 plus $12 shipping. That got my thinking. Then I remembered Radio Shack carried the super.fi 3 'studio'. Its the same as the super.fi 3 pro, except they include a bi flange and an airplane adapter So I head over to their site today, and notice that instead of the $120something they used to sell it for, it is down to 59.97. I meet my sister at a store (she works there part…

According to Audio-Technica, the w100 never existed. I contacted them for a few parts, and they gave me part numbers for w1000 parts. I wrote back, and said so no w100 parts then? The parts guy told me he assumed I meant w1000 since the w100 doesn't exist. Oops. I don't really blame them, cause the U.S. parts people responded and it was a Japan product. I still thought it was funny.

not so good So, since a lot of us are old fogeys, I figured at least one of us would care.

  14. So I bought a lot of modified headphones on ebay, SR-Lambda Signature, SR-007Mk2 and SR-009. They looked to be in rough condition so I thought, worst case I'll tinker with them and have some more spare parts for my stock. Now... the first two units were bad... really bad but I fully rebuilt them from my stock of spare parts. Now I've been fixing up lost cause headphones for 20 years but still, these were the worst I've ever seen. Missing parts everywhere and utterly retarded ways of "improving" them by making everything worse. Now, I had left the 009's in their box until this morning and wow... just wow... So what are we looking at, these are t…

  16. I'm wondering if i should look up this deal Grado sr60 / sr80 headphones for ipod zune audiophile mp3 music player, and what i might look for to find out which Grado they are. It's been 3 years since i last heard and SR60, so it's not like i would be able to immediately compare.

A few months ago I decided to invest in a decent pair of headphones, and bought the Sennheiser HD 555 after all the good reccomendations. I've used them for a few months now and have been fairly dissapointed with them, they sound dull and lack in bass. I listen to most genres of music but in particular hip-hop; which I find these headphones are not all that suitable for. So I am now thinking of selling my Sennheiser's and getting another pair, with are more suitable for me, with my budget being anything under $150. Any reccomendations? Would the Grado SR60i/Audio Technica ATH-AD700 be good choices? Thanks

I've heard and loved most of the classic Grados . I've owned every pink driver model (RS1, SR325, SR100/200/300) and find they represent my favorite John Grado sound, but I always ended up selling them on. Then I found these weird things: These have the smaller red/pink drivers found on John's earliest headphones, and HP1000 gimbals. The cups are very shallow, about the same depth as early SR60s, and as a result they don't fit in the gimbals properly. You have to insert them "backwards" to get the angle right when they're on your head, but it doesn't negatively effect the comfort. They sound phenomenal. Similar to the earliest RS1, but they'r…

Apparently on July 1, Amazon started selling some new AKG phones. I have no idea how new, but I just noticed the ad for it for the first time. I find the 172 and 272 (both closed back) the most interesting myself, but I'm sure Fitz will get them all and tell us how they are.

I will be using the headphones at home a lot where I do have an Amp for my pc and xbox however it will have to be able to play off of my Ipod at a decent quality ( doesn't have to be its best) I've been looking at several models my friends all have beats and I personally hate them i find they'…

This is my first post on head-case, so I hope I'll get some helpful input without being judged too harshly. Intro: I used to own a pair of Martin Logan speakers Summit, paired with a 200W integrated amp from McIntosh. I sold the lot a few years ago as I moved to another continent... I've longed to get back to this sound ever since. I'm now looking for headphones that'll recreate somewhat (I know it's impossible) that ML sound. I've been into hifi for a while, and though not a professional myself, I've built some deep knowledge of how the market works. I've never had that much of a knowledge base about headphones however... but I have some serious reserve about t…

On my commute, I have been using Apple Earbuds, which seem to leak a bit of sound. I am normally riding on a train car designated as "Quiet Car" and have had a couple of people look at me if I'm really cranking something, so I was looking for something that didn't leak as much. I know, JH13 I ran across the HifiMan HE400s on innerfidelity, which Tyll seemed to like, and can get these for around $50. I also noticed they have an HE400i (iPhone) or HE400a (Android). From what I can tell, these do not have a microphone, but do have the inline volume control thingy? The reviews seem to indicate that the inline controls are cheap and break. I never really use these, but i…

Actually I have some more articles like this pending but I just don't have the time to write it up. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It all started about a year ago that a second hand sr-omega popped up in the local community. From time to time omegas show up on markets around the world but this one is different: an omega with 007 drivers installed. When the drivers are replaced, such omega drops its …
