Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by crappyjones123,

dad would like to get a pair of headphones. his office has gotten very noisy so he would like something closed but for him comfort is the top priority. sound quality doesnt even matter. this is what im thinking. Denon USA | AH-D1001 budget is roughly $150 shipped. nothing over. basically looking for a closed can that is super light weight and ultra comfortable. i dont know much about closed headphones so suggestions are welcome. will certainly not be using the headphones with an amp no matter how small as he is a desktop real estate freak. source will be a thinkpad laptop so a cable stock terminated to a mini plug would be a plus. also, he will be using it in his o…

Well, I am looking for a new set of headphones. There is a modded set currently for sale, based on various impressions I am interested. My favorite cans have always been the HP-1000's and L3000's. I have also owned and enjoyed the Senns 600 and 650's, RS-1's both new and vintage stock, PS-1's. Would love to hear all of your thoughts on the K340's and how they compare to what I am familiar with.

  7. I am trying to find that diagram that came with the hp1000's that shows a possible connection to speaker amps, thanks to anyone that can help out with a link.

  8. I have heard that many people experience pain from different types of headphones, and I am interested to learn more about what causes it. Is it from sound, fit, or some other reasons? Please share your experiences with discomfort with earbuds, in-ear earphones, ear tips, and the like. Thanks!

  9. my boss would like a good headphone recommendation. He's looking for a good closed 'phone with velour pads. He has a pair of Beyers that he doesn't like as they are too bass heavy. He also has a HD650, but feels they're bass light and needs something that is closed. He also has a pair of AKG that he likes, but they have pleather pads. He'd be open to retrofitting pads to the AKG, as he likes them. I'm a bit out of my element here, so I figured I'd ask around... He didn't go into much detail, but he did say that he uses them with a mixer. I suppose I'm not sure what even fits the bill, so I'd be more interested in a list of options than recommendations, though the latte…

  10. I do quite a decent amount of walking and it's mainly in neighborhoods. Sometimes though there are people mowing, using edge trimmers, blowing by in really loud cars, motorcycles, etc. and I can hear it and it bothers me with my current headphones (Monoprice 8323 stock). I know those don't block enough to prevent hearing damage. I do not like IEM's. I've been looking up and it seems like passive noise isolating headphones are better for medium pitch to high pitch noises and active noise cancellation is best for low to lower middle pitched noise. So I was wondering what is the best headphone that has a combination of the two for under $100? Even if the SQ is lowe…

Anyone have an idea where I can get the AD2000 at the "best" price. The average I have seen it retailing for is $700 but some of the older threads refer to the cost being closer to $500 a few years ago. thanks..dB

  12. Started by Leonardo Drummond,

I've got a Unique Melody Merlin demo on loan and it sounds great. I'm opening this thread since I've never read anything here about the company, and based on what I'm listening, they appear to deserve some careful consideration, especially given JH Audio's dubious customer support. The Merlin is a hybrid, and has dual highs, dual mids and a dynamic for lows. It's more forward than my JH13s and delivers more bass - stepping into HE500 territory -, but without losing any definition or texture. It's a pretty fun sound signature, although more grainy and a bit less refined than that of the JH. But then it's about 200 bucks cheaper, and the build quality is considerably bet…

  13. Sadly, I have a noisy family. No but seriously they are real noisy. I listen currently to SR-007A Mk2 with KGST, but need a pair of closed back non-stats, which will be run off my PureBipolar. I have collected names, and have so far Focus Stellia or ZMF Verite Closed or Kennerton Rognir. A shop some hours away has 2/3 of these in stock. The question really is, for a stat devotee listening to acoustic music (classical and jazz) will any of these be acceptable in the aim to help me forget my family? Or will they all make me run screaming from the house instead?

Hello all. First post on this great site... I just got an Apogee Duet that I'll be connecting to my Macbook Pro. Right now, all I have is the MBP, Duet, & a pair of AudioEngine A5's (powered speakers). I got powered speakers because I wanted to avoid having to buy an amp (for now--I'll upgrade speaker system & maybe get an amp months down the road). Let's assume that I do not want to add any additional hardware: what headphones can be driven by the Duet's headphone amp ( & sound "good" in the process)? Can I get, say, Sennheiser HD600 (or 650) & be o.k. w/ how the Duet amp drives them? For example, I've read somewhere else that cans like Grados (not …

Hey guys & gals, I'm new hear but found this through Google. So awhile back I had my HD650's directly plugged into the front of my Mac Pro and I pushed my chair back and slightly bent the plug as well as the headphone jack in the Mac Pro. So for about two months, I'd have to jiggle the plug and keep tension on the cord in order to get sound from both drivers. Then about two weeks ago, I couldn't get the right driver to play. So I bought a new adapter to fit in my computer, nothing. So I tried my headphones in my Amp without the adapter, same deal, only the left side working. I've tried other headphones in my computer and they work. So, did I blow a driver someho…

  19. HEDD-ADAM ATM we are beyond thrilled to announce HEDDphone® - the first full-range headphone design based on HEDD / ADAM founder and speaker veteran Klaus Heinz’ world-known Air Motion Transformer driver!! The Air Motion Transformer (AMT) is an electrodynamic transducer that allows to move air significantly faster than common voice coil, magnetostatic (planar) or electrostatic systems. Their traditional piston-like movement is overcome by a folded diaphragm that squeezes out air four times faster: A breakthrough for capturing more details in any audio recording. In order to reproduce the complete audible frequency band (and beyond), HEDDphone® introduces VVT® techno…

Hi, im looking to get a new pair of headphones for $250 or less. What are the best headphones for this sort of price? I was thinking of getting the monster dnas, as they have had good reviews. Thanks in advance guys.

Hi Guys, I've not touched my ambitious β22 build in ~7-8-months due to lack of time. It's very close to being working, but a fair amount of work to do to complete it. I need some headphones to try out the portion finished so far, I don't have any. I don't want to quickly try it driving speakers as I don't have thermal switches or ε24s built yet. I'd like to be able to test both the balanced and unbalanced amplifier configurations, so easy plug recable would be a bonus. Off the top of my head I can only think of HD 650, which I can get new for

  22. Jerry Harvey Audio is releasing a universal fit version of their JIMI custom IEM, limited to 200pcs, and offering it exclusively to dealers (HeadAmp is one). We have some on the way, and some black shelled demo pairs as well. The shells are are also smaller than JH's previous generation of universal fit earphones. https://www.headamp.com/products/jh-jimi-aion From Jerry Harvey Audio:

  23. Generally speaking, I'm mostly listening to Lo-Fi Music, Hip-Hop, and Punk-Rock. Here are 2 sample songs for each aforementioned genre: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiljpJc5pzlkTTyVsLGEoS5hS4tkyaMsh Intended use I listen to music at any time & any place, meaning that I really prefer headphones that are noise-protecting. Speaking from my personal experience, I'm a big fan of IN-EAR and OVER-EAR headphones. They feel naturally comfortable to me and that's generally a big brownie point. Please don't hesitate if you have any further questions or ideas! THEREFORE Super many Thanks in Advance! I genuinely appreciate the privilege of being able to…
