Headcases Outside? The Horror... The Horror...

  1. Started by Fungi,

So I just got a nano 4G for my mom and of course it doesn't work with foo_dop for foobar. It's okay though since I need to use iTunes anyway to help her when she gets it. Question is, if I use the iPod with iTunes on my computer, will it be locked to this system or is there no problem when she gets it? And say I just want to use it kind of like a media storage device instead of something synched to a library on a computer; the things I put on it won't get eaten up when she receives it?

Just got 16 gig 3 GS Iphone friday. I have 3 itunes libraries on seperate computers. Music is on home pc and podcasts only on laptop and workplace pc. I set iphone to manually manage files (no synching). I do the same thing with my ipods (5G 30 gig, 80 gig Classic, and 3G nano) and am able to go back and forth from library to library. The iphone will not let me do this. When I try, I get message that it is already synched to a library and will wipe out what I have on iphone and synch to new library. The iphone is set to manualy manage music and videos, not synch. What gives?

Just bought an iPhone only to find out that this thing won't except my etymotic ER-6 headphones or my Ultimate Ears Pro 5's. This is very disappointing! I have $450.00 worth of headphones I can't use with my state of the art iPhone! This thing is going back!

Recently upgraded car stereo to Alpine CDA9885 so I could use my Ipod in the car. Original plan was to buy Nano and leave it in the car all the time, but have been reading on a few car audio forums that the new Ipods (Nano and Touch specifically) are having problems interfacing with pretty much all car recievers. Don't know this for a fact but that is what I have been reading. Now the plan is to buy new Classic for my everyday use at work and move my 5.5g 30 gig to car. The reason I had originally planned on the Nano was no hard drive to be affected by vibration (if it would). Do you think wrapping Ipod in foam rubber would reduce vibration safely, or do I even need t…

Hey y'all, So I have some shure se310s, but I was wondering if getting a pair of ER4ps would be an upgrade. I hear that the etymotics are rather bass shy, but I'm not a basshead, as long as I can hear it and its nice and tightly controlled. Here's some other information. I'll probably be using the phones mostly in my dorm room from my home rig so that I don't bother my roommate when he is trying to study (my HD650s obviously leak a lot). I listen to all kinds of music, rock, indie, metal, jazz, classical, and reggae. I value clarity more than almost everything else. I also listen at pretty low levels, especially on IEMs. I really don't like the 310s if they're …

I've mostly been using the E-MU0404usb with its built in headphone amp which definitely bottle-necks the built in DAC. But combined with my M^3 the DAC in this soundcard is surprisingly decent. A bit edgy/gritty in the highs and not the biggest/deepest soundstage (compared to the North Star) but otherwise not bad at all for how little it costs. I wonder if it could be improved with a better output (tubed?) stage?

I'm really out of touch with these. My Nomad 3 is about to die. I'm looking for something with a line out, good audio quality, and decent battery life (but it doesn't have to be great). I don't care about video content at all. A nice navigation system would be a plus. What are my options?

What do you guys think of the new 80GB Zunes? I am pretty sure I will get one closer to holidays or whenever there is some kind of discount on it. 80GB, 3.2 inch screen, $250... its also pretty much same size as the ipod so its pretty small. What are your thoughts?

My younger brother got a new 80gb Classic for his early graduation present and, as usual, I get his leftover garbage, which is a 60gb ipod with a broken screen. Can anyone suggest a good place to get the screen replaced?

So I was reading a review of the ElectroKID in a recent issue of HFN, and they said that the Krell is one of the few docks that takes advantage of the fact that the iPod actually has a the requirements for a true balanced line out (I.E. both regular and inverse signals). Is that true? Do any of the DIY cable makers take advantage of that fact?

Have the opportunity to get a 16gb version. Right now I'm fairly content running my 2gb Nano/Hornet combo, but wondering if the line-out of the touch is superior the the line-out of the 1st Gen Nano with the Wolfson DAC. I read somewhere on head-fi and other places that Apple has cleaned up the LOD portion of the docks with minimal PCB traces and a clean signal. I just can't remember if the touch was part of that "cleaning up". The only advantages the touch (DAP wise, no other features taken into consideration) would have over my Nano would be the storage space with the SQ. So is it a worthwhile upgrade? Or should I just stick with my Nano? If anything, I may pick it …

Just came out of Walmart and found flyer on windshield about Apple authorized sale of normally 199.99 ipods for 39.99 tomorrow in parking lot of Best Western Motel. Limit 10 per customer. Choice of pink, blue, black, green, silver, or red. They look like last years nanos. Was always curious about what happened to all the old stock when new models came out. Only thing that throws me is the red one. I remember a special version that came out with proceeds going to AIDS research or something, but I thought it was the video model. Must check this out just for curiousity.

My faithful Creative Zen Touch needs upgrading, and an 80 gb iPod looks like it might be the current sweet spot. From what I have discovered, it looks like if I install rockbox, I can play flac files on an iPod. If I'm right, looks like I need to choose between flac and apple lossless. Ideally, I only want to rip my CDs once. Down the track, I may well start using a squeezebox or something similar in my home system. Are there any sq advantages of one type over the other? What about storage space?

  17. I have most of my CD's backed-up/ripped in ALAC. While this works well if I want to burn some songs or albums on to CDR, I really don't need to these files to be in ALAC for my iPod. I suppose I could just convert them all to lower bitrate onto another hard drive, but I really don't want to do that (i.e., lazy). Are there any OSX software that would down-convert the music as I put them on my iPod?

  18. I got my friend a pair of OK2s for his birthday to use with his iPod and he's all so I was thinking of throwing in something basic for his PC. I know this is one of those questions, but I guess I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful USB DAC/amp that will leave some room to grow with harder-to-drive headphones. Thinking Total Bithead budget -- is there a better way to go (including used and DIY) for that kind of scratch? All suggestions welcome. Except "buy him a Pico." We're not that kind of friends.

In case anyone here is interested, the dual charger PowerDock is significantly on sale over at Buy.com. If you've got a couple iPods it may be worth it. More info from Griffin here.

  21. As the title suggests I'm having problems with my brand new DT770/Pro-80 headphones with my 160Gb iPod Classic. The pod pauses the music after a little while as if I had disconnected the headphones (handy feature otherwise, but not here ) Any ideas on what to do to prevent this? The headphones work very well everywhere else, it's just my pod that seems to be incompactible. p.s. Just to clarify, the headphones are connected with a 3.5mm jack

Seems kinda like the DIY version of the iMod. Seeing as how it removes the PCB board traces, replaces caps, etc. But instead of using the HP jack, it still uses the dock connection. http://ipastudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2905 Seems like it could be fairly easily done on your own. I haven't seen the pics myself, as I'm not a member of ipastudio, but this was on another forum, and was curious if any of you DIYers did this? how do you think this SQ wise compares to the iMod? "Will it sound as good as my meridian CDP????" lol.

Does anyone here have this unit? I picked one up this weekend for my iPod, and can only seem to fit 49 playlist's in it. I called them and they had no answers for me other than to bring it back for a new one. When asked about how to replaced the internal battery, they said it's not a battery , and will never need to be replaced. Ok, it has an inexhaustible power supply right. Great tech support. So far I'm not impressed.

I doubt many manufacturers will implement it, since Apple AAC and Qualcomm aptX have bigger install bases: https://www.soundstagesolo.com/index.php/features/481-bluetooth-6-0-is-here-sort-of
