I really don't like the screw terminal blocks much, so I was going to use PCB headers/wire mounted connectors for a couple of projects. I need something in 5.08mm (0.200") or close, and the only ones I have come up with so far are the Hirose HF5 series at Digikey (http://www.hirose.co.jp/cataloge_hp/e67600011.pdf, or the Molex SPOX series at Mouser View List I want something where it is foolproof to take apart and put back together. I need connectors of 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 pins. Digikey has everything I need. Mouser has everything EXCEPT the 8 pin header (they carry the 8 pin connector... not sure why?). I had a problem with the last amp i built with pcb mounted sockets where the tubes werent straight (probably because the sockets werent parallel to the board. anyone have any tips on how i can get the sockets all mounted level so the tubes can stick out straight?

Quick question and likely an easy one, but it escapes me. If one were to have a power meter on the front of their amp, say, like the D'Agostino Momentum, what would it be connected to? I assume across the power supply...or would it be across the output? Thanks! Gratuitous picture for fun.

Hi all, Well silly me purchased a Dac Ah a year ago after reading some of the reviews over on HeadFi. http://www.pacificvalve.us/LTDACAH2.html I sent the DAC over to Reference Audio Mods for their full gundie mods and the experience has been less than satisfactory to say the least. The modded Dac Ah sat in my home office system and never got any serious play until recently and basically IT SUCKS! Any piano like Bill Evans or Monk sound very shrill, there is a noticeable suck out in the upper mids and bass is muddied. Any easy way to remove the magnets from speakers? I have some little 4 and 5" drivers I replaced in one of my cars and would love to keep the magnets.

Has anyone here built one? I have an RCA caddy, it's about the size of a maxed-out carry-on bag. Similar to this one: The thing is huge, and while it's interesting in an ephemeral way, it weighs about 40 pounds (full), and is of course pretty musty. Big arse mofo. Right now I keep my active, or popular- tubes in three file cabinet drawers. The caddy is filled with odd and end tubes that I may or may not ever have use for, but don't wish to toss. Then I have another cardboard carton with other, stranger tubes, such as duodecar and some extra compactrons. Have any of you that have the IM716, or took advantage of the Buy dot com deal, removed the volume pod and added resistors? The other site has a thread on this but thought I check here as well. I just got in a pair and also have a few resistors hanging around; although, all I have are 75 ohm jobbies from KSC-35 mod craziness. Other than getting rid of the somewhat sizeable pod holding the switch and volume pot, anyone find it worth the effort?

One of the tweakier things I've done. My twin brother is back in the states for a month and brought a couple of pairs of KZ ZS-6s with him that he has had for awhile. He had previously talked me into buying a pair of KZ ZS-10s, but I found them unlistenable due to their excessive high end. I was going to build a balanced isolation transformer. But I had difficult to choose form either EI or toroid. Regardless of price and size, which theoretically will be better (in performance)? I was planning to build around 2KVA. Does anyone have experience?

I've read a few times that the EnABL process can be applied to Grado headphones, particularly the metal housings ones. I've had my modded SR100 since mid march and I'm wondering if anybody ever tried that on the black or silver vintage SR325 housings or the MS2/HP1000/PS1 and what were the final results ?? My DAC has only one dual RCA output. I would like to use it with both of my speakers and headphones amp (but not at the same time), and don't want to disconnect and reconnect the RCA cables. If I add another dual RCA output by connecting them parallel to the existing RCA output. Would it be any problem?

hi! i'm new here.. i'd like to ask for some help. diagnosis and repair.. i have a A4tech hu-200 usb headphone. now it only plays the right channel.. but before that happened i noticed that the audio is like panning from left to right til it could only be heard in the right. i researched about repairing headphones and all i saw is that the problem could be a loose wire or something similar but when i open my headphone there were no loose or broken wires. what could be the problem? and how do i fix it? i don't wanna send it to a repair shop cause i wanna see if i could repair it myself.

So, I have some nice shiny TO-3 transistors. I'd like to make a PCB with these as output devices and some sort of way to transfer heat via flange that I can mount to a heat sink. I have to admit I've never used this package, so I'm curious.... assuming I cannot mount the can on the fin side of the heat sink (which would require way to much milling and effort), what sort of ways are there to deal with this? Second question, and not at all related to the above... any recommendations for a relatively low voltage CCS? Let's say 60V and 3A or so as extreme parameters. Thanks!
