This is what mybloodyvalentine.org looks like right now: This has been a pretty disastrous launch. MBV clearly learned nothing from NIN and Radiohead when it comes to high profile album launches. They've had 22 years to plan this album release.

  3. Cisco is shutting down operations, which means Kevin Gray's Aja is going out of print. IMO this pressing/mastering is as perfect an audiophile recording as one can get. And the musics not to bad either. hop on it: http://store.acousticsounds.com/browse_detail.cfm?title_ID=39750

Interesting Radio 4 program, listen-able on BBC's iPlayer in the US, (for the next 2 days) here: BBC - BBC Radio 4 Programmes - The Art of Re-mastering Sara Mohr-Pietsch explores digital re-mastering: is it the art of restoring music to its original glory; or just another way of selling us music we already own? The whole of the Beatles back catalogue has recently been re-released in re-mastered form; a quick search of any record store or online shop will reveal that a large number of recordings have been re-mastered, from very old crackly recordings to very recent releases. But what do the words 'digitally re-mastered' on a cd actually mean? Sara Mohr-Pietsch …

I was just listening to J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565 (a delayed reaction to Hallowe'en) when I had a bit of an epiphany... why do people send their kids to take piano lessons when they could be learning the pipe organ (common sense answer: because pipe organs are crazy big and complex and expensive and rare)? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toccata_and_Fugue_in_D_minor,_BWV_565 The Wikipedia article suggests that Bach may have composed the piece to test pipe organs... do people use pipe organ repertoire to test their music systems? Listening to this piece on my computer speakers, I can understand why pipe organs are used for liturgical purpose…

When you burn a cd from a cd is there a loss of fidelity? A friend of mine who is a questionable source said that there is but couldn't back up his claim with anything but "I read it somewhere". I'm thinking about backing up my library on CDR this week and wondering if loss of fidelity is a problem and if there is a way to prevent it. I currently can't hear any difference but my ears are constantly learning (or arguably hallucinating) new things all the time. I don't want to do it if a few years from now I can hear the difference between the two. Thanks, Aaron

Unlikely to be good news for users. Also quite closely coincident to the latest blow-up over them (or CBS, without their knowledge) allegedly giving user data to the RIAA.

Plays the Music of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn Stereophile went gaga over this album. They gave it 4 1/2 stars for performance and five for sound. I checked it out on Lala and it does sound worth a serious listen. Can't speak to the five stars for sound part, since I only listened to a stream on my laptop speakers. Lala has this embed code feature with which I can allegedly post a player. (crossing fingers) [snip] Naw. Guess that doesn't work in forum posts. Here's a permalink. Maybe that will work better. On the current 45rpm reissue of Coltrane Crescent (ORG Release), the second disc doesn't sit well with my VPI Periphery ring and I'm kinda lost on this. Basically the ring doesn't clamp the disc circumference properly. It flattens down one side, but the disc is short on the opposite end. So the disc ring just sits a little loft sided. Knowing the high quality of the ORG releases, I thought this is just a one disc fault or something. So I sent it back to elusive disc who send me a new replacement copy. SAME PROBLEM! Now I'm a little concerned. All the ORG releases in my collection are pretty much pristine...so I'm a bit bummed. Add to that about a 40 second t…

Does anyone else find all of the flaming lips albums mix just awful? I dig the music itself, but the levels are super high and don't seem to vary much for a lot of the songs. I love Yoshimi, but the bass/keyboard effect on some of the songs sounds like it is clipping (but I don't think it is actually clipping, it is just the sound intentionally). I can't understand why they do this to the music? Sound like teh suck on even cheap ibuds. Bleh. Are the 5.1 surround sound versions of the cd's any better?

I'm currently listening to Lisa Stansfield's "All around the World", a tune that has a strong power to rise my spirits. In fact most of her first album can do that. There are many others, no matter how tough conditions are, that may help me to feel a bit happier. I suppose you have your own and may you like to share them.
