I have decided that David Bowie is the next artist that I'm going to dive into after my past two dive-ins which were the far less famous Beggars Opera and Renaissance. Both of which were a while ago. Articulate for me, if you would be so willing, those of you who like a bit of Bowie, which of his CDs I shoudl begin my dive with. For an artist of his level of fame and influance I am basically, utterly blank listening slate, all I really know is Space Oddity and Starman. Thank you in advance.

I don't know how many of you saw this, but Ms. Newsom is releasing her follow up to the wonderful Ys next month with a 3-CD/3-LP release of Have One On Me. Yes, a triple album. No idea what to expect, but I'm looking forward to this immensely. Pre-Order here. With tour dates to follow: I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to keep an eye on that March 17th date in Cambridge, MA.

A friend of mine recently gave me some LP's to transfer for him that he found at his father's house. The LP's are all beat to crap, some containing some nice rat poo and others containing mold spores. All of them are in terrible condition but workable none the less. One of those LP's just happens to be an original six-eye red and black mono pressing of Dave Brubeck's Time Out. I saw it and was shocked that it was so beaten up. Someone must have listened to this A LOT. I cleaned it 3 times and put it on. WOW! I have never heard the mono version and I have a custom stereo version but even in this crappy condition the mono beats out every other version I have hear…

I know there are a number of people around here who really like Our Hearts First Meet and would like to know that her follow up is available... Amazon.com: For Blood And Wine: Rykarda Parasol: MP3 Downloads Just an amazon download for now (256 kbps), but I'm pretty sure the CD is in the works at a later date. Her official site is here. I can't say how much I love Our Hearts First Meet. The songs are stunning, with a western noir sound, and her voice is breathtaking. "Texas Midnight Radio" is the highlight for me on an album full of highlights. Downloading from amazon now... Will probably listen tonight. If not tonight, definitely tomorrow. …

There's a new exclusive video on the Portishead website. You have make an account with your email address, but in my experience, the P do not spam. The new track is "Machine Gun" and it's pretty clear how they came up with the name. It's pretty abrasive stuff. Those expecting Dummy-era sedate trip hop will be in for a surprise.

Vic Chesnutt in a coma - Americana and roots music - No Depression word is that it doesn't look good. a real fucking shame if he doesn't pull through. I saw him play with Widespread Panic NYE in Atlanta, 2001. I had no idea who he was and it was amazing. I have been a fan ever since.

I've never listened to any solo Lennon, aside from of course the single "Imagine". I am hoping to explore his music further, and am looking into picking up Plastic Ono, Mind Games, and Imagine. There is much debate over at SH forums as to whether the MFSL Gold CD versions are acceptable, since they are remixes. An eBay seller (CD LTD) has tons of copies of all three for around $25 apiece shipped. Feelings on remixes aside, I was wondering how folks here felt about the sound/sonics of the MFSL versions of the above three albums. If not the MFSLs, I'll probably hunt down some inexpensive vinyl versions. Or the new MFSL vinyls, but I heard new MFSL vinyl is noisy.

Have any of you discovered Pandora yet? http://www.pandora.com/ Pretty cool way of being introduced to new music -- I have several "stations" set up already (Ambient Electronica, Organica, Eccentrica, eMetal, and Electro Industrial). If you are on, and/or you don't mind me giving them your email address (I.E. if you are going to sign on anyway), then let me know (PM me your E), and I'll "share" them with you. And apparently, there's some sort of sharing of information going on with the Slimdevices Squeezebox, so if you have one of these, you can listen anywhere and all of the other functionality (and you will want to be able to rate and skip songs, &c.), not…

Here is an idea I had... Idea.. I picked up a cd this mourning called "Artists choice, Norah Jones.. the music that matters to her" at the Starbucks in my side job. it is basically a CD with 14 tracks of music that means a lot to Norah Jones, some tracks are from Billie Holiday to Johnny Cash. on the way home I thought this was a great Idea, to make a cd with a bunch of tracks with music the matters to you, or at least something you listen to a lot. since Headcase is pretty small I think we here can do something like this but for ourselves to exchange to other members here. We all know each others Internet personality and each others gear we use..but we don't know…

I know nothing about classical music. I've picked up the following albums over the last few years at local record sales thinking I would try to get into classical. I've been listening to the local classical station and I'm trying to get into it but it's a bit overwhelming. Anyway, I'm curious if what I have is good in terms of whether those of you that are into classical would say, that's a great, good, bad, whatever version. I hope that makes sense. Mozart Symphony No.40/Hayden Symphony No.45 "Farewell" London Symphony - Antal Dorati Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields' Chamber Ensemble - Mendelssohn: Octet Op.20 String Quintet Op.87 Bruch Violin Concerto No…

You don't have to be a Fall fan to enjoy this article about what happened between their previous album (Fall Heads Roll) and their new album, Reformation Post-TLC. And like the article says, its nothing to Marc E. Smith, the only constant throughout the band's 25 albums, where Smith has seen over 50 musicians pass through the band's ranks. Taken from http://www.gloriousnoise.com/reviews/2007/the_fallreformation_post_tlc.php

Who else is looking forward to the SACD release of Surfer Rosa? I have high hopes for this one, since it's supposed to be re-mastered from the original analog tapes, and it's MoFi, so at least on paper, it looks like a winning combination.

I hope most of us have seen the doc of Sound City if not, shame on you! Well, I guess I'm a little biased when it comes to the golden age of recording studios and the like. The good news is that they've cleaned and preened the old place and it's now open for business once again! Complete with a full compliment of Ampex and 3M tape machines and a legendary Helios console. Check it out! https://www.soundcitystudios.com/
