" Digital downloads had a short run as the top-selling format in the music industry. It took until 2011, a decade after the original iPod came out, for their sales surpass those of CDs and vinyl records, and they were overtaken by music streaming services just a few years later. Now, digital downloads are once again being outsold by CDs and vinyl, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. The RIAA released its 2017 year-end revenue report on Thursday, showing that revenue from digital downloads plummeted 25 percent to $1.3 billion over the previous year. Revenue from physical products, by contrast, fell 4 percent to $1.5 billion. …

The entire membran sacd collection is available from jpc.de for the unbelieveable price of about $5 per disc. All classical of course, the bach organ music (18 discs) is just wonderful. Also the olympia jazz sacd's (from the olympia jazz club in france) are available for about $10. Fixed price shipping of about $13 for all orders over $50.

I was watching a TV show in a scene a guy was giving a rare, collectible vinyl album to another. The album cover was brown or very dark orange with regularly distributed, about 5x5 or 6x6, white circles. In four of the circles, in the same line, starting next to the left rim, the word JAZZ spelled one single letter into one single circle. That's all, no names, no label, no artist mentioned or music sounding. I've tried looking for that cover on Discogs, Google, etc, but nothing came out. Any cues?

Jean-Michel Jarre has re-recorded Oxygene from the ground up for the 30th anniversary of the album. Theres also a DVD with a one-take live performance of the album. Theres a stereo and a 5.1 version of the album and a 2D and 3D version of the video. http://www.emigroup.com/Press/2007/press87.htm Its out at the end of the month. Going out on a limb here, has any head-caser heard the 2009 remaster of Tattoo You? I grew up listening to the original, yet all I own is a scratchy early-80s vinyl pressing. There was a time when I'd cheerfully buy any remaster, but the Terrible Age of the Brick Wall has cured me of that forever. I'd much rather track down a halfway decent CD pressing (or needledrop) of the original version than suffer through having all the dynamics crush by a modern rework. Anyone out there heard both? Who has a DVD-Audio player? And what type of music do you like? I recently went thru my collection and found multiple duplicates of some of my DVD-Audio discs. I intend on giving them away to some lucky Head-Case member/s. Imagine fingerstyle guitar as influenced by Ali Akbar Khan/Ravi Shankar and Charles Ives/Bela Barotk as Bill Monroe and Mississippi John Hurt. Anyone else a fan? I'm particularly fond of John Fahey, Robbie Basho and James Blackshaw. I highly recommend Days Have Gone By, America, The Yellow Princess and Fare Forward Voyagers for Fahey, O True Believers by James Blackshaw, and most of Basho's early work, + Zarthus for something less guitar based. So a friend of mine has been bugging me to transfer some cassette tapes. I am always willing to help out but the problem holding me back was that I didn't have a cassette tape player. Now, as far back as I can remember (1985), my father hated cassette tapes. Almost everyone I knew growing up didn't like them because 1) they jammed, 2) they didn't sound as good as the LP and 3) the art was crap. I guess I grew up with this bias (PUN!).
