I've been kinda wondering lately why nobody in audiophiledom seems to talk about rap. Do audiophiles just not like rap? Nobody seems to care about ripping CDs or bumping classics on vinyl, which doesn't make much sense to me, because rap is a very popular genre. It's weird, because obscure shit like tech death or black metal gets plenty of love on forums. But not rap? Well, rap is my second favorite genre after rock, and I hope some of y'all want to talk about it with me. I'm not really into that 80s bboy shit; my tastes only stretch back to early 90s gangsta. My personal favorite rap group has pretty much always been Jedi Mind Tricks, especially the Violent by Design …

Hey guys... just got an e-mail about this, but sadly it's not coming to my local Rave. FWIW, the e-mail presentation was MUCH fancier than the website. Rave Motion Pictures Jazz at Lincoln Center : Willie Nelson & Wynton Marsalis Thursday, October 15, 8:00PM ALABAMA Montgomery - RMP Festival Plaza 16 ARKANSAS …

Has anyone heard this band's debut CD? They're spirit's of the 70s, no doubt. I think it's one of the better hard rock albums I've heard in a LONG time. I'm not sure I'd call it a great album, but it's a really solid debut. I'll be watching (and listening to) these guys, I think.

Since my trainer has decided to stick me on a stairmaster and/or elliptical thingy for one hour six days a week, I need tunes to get me through the tedium and misery. I absolutely HATE the let's-get-moving music gyms play (fortunately, I'm in her home and have no competing ugly music blasting). I hate club/dance music for the most part and music with programed drums. I just want to forget I'm on this damn thing and make the time disappear. I've had my ipod on shuffle, and have found that some songs, usually long ones, and ones I've known for years but still love seem to work best. I start listening, get happy, and time blows by. I want to create some playlists so I don't …

I confess that the subject is to grab folks attention but the Clan is truly hoping this will happen. Very interesting idea. Kind of a cross between music and performance art? Whatever it is, it's new! http://www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2014/03/26/why-wu-tang-will-release-just-one-copy-of-its-secret-album/

I thought it would be interesting to see people post their absolute favorite albums of all time. Your desert island albums, albums with huge personal significance to you, whatever. Those albums that you know note for note and can always listen to and be blown away by. I thought by doing this we could all expand our own musical horizons, or something. This is in no order (well I guess it has to be in an order, but it's of no significance): John Coltrane - A Love Supreme IMO this is the greatest single musical statement ever. People usually recommend My Favorite Things as a first Coltrane album, but I got this instead. If I remember right it was the second pure…

I've been listening to a lot of concertos while studying for the CPA exam. Generally I think my rock brain can handle compositions with a focus on a single instrument more easily than I can handle symphonies or even chamber music. I can latch on to that violin/piano/cello/whatever and let it be my guide. Care to recommend your most listened to concerto recordings? Pics or links or whatever. Either I can then buy it or be like "yeah I have that one its awesome". Composer doesn't matter. Thanks!

As I was casually listening to some music tonight, my choice of CD brought a rush of memory back to me that inspired me to ask this question. What is the most memorable, striking moment you've had while at a concert, seeing a live performance? For me it was at an outdoor theater that no longer exists - Poplar Creek in the NW Chicago burbs. We had gone to see King Crimson there on the tour they did supporting the Beat album. But there were mega intense thunderstorms that day and the show was rained out. I had been a Crimso fan since the early '70's but had never seen them. I was heartbroken. Flash ahead a couple of years. Three of a Perfect Pair is out. Crimso is tou…

In the Krautrock thread Tony mentioned Magma. Since Magma is Zeuhl and not Krautrock I volunteered to create this thread to talk about Zeuhl and related bands. I am not sure how many know what this Zeuhl stuff is all about so I will give a brief introduction and list a few bands/albums that I like. Zeuhl School basically amount to Magma influenced bands, but there is a lot of crossover into Gong and RIO territory as well. Zeuhl is an adjective in Koba
