For those of us that are jazz fans this is an outstanding set. I've listened to the available mp3 on Laurie Peppers site about 2 dozen times. Here is a link for those that are interested My link The set was pro recorded at Ronnie Scotts during an 80s engagement and the band on the mp3 track is smoking hot. The transfer was done at 24/192 with a 4 cd set from CDbaby.com setting you back $27. There is a vinyl set for over $200 but I'm going to wait until I get the cd set in the mail to see if I need it. I just wish Laurie Pepper would release the 24/192 tracks of this set.

Much of their back catalog suffers from the typical 80's CD mastering issues - bright, brittle, and anemic. I believe there are CD remasters on the way as well, but if anyone happens to a: be a KJ fan, b: have a vinyl rig they are proud of, and c: is in to making digitizations of their vinyl - I'd love to hear a couple tracks for comparison purposes. Well, I'd love to hear them all but that is a lot to ask...

I've been following ARC music archives since they picked themselves up after 9/11 and they have grown in leaps and bounds. Oh don't freak out, I'm talking about music. As many seem to do as they get a bit older, I seem to be getting a bit stale as to new artists. I thought a thread where people could toss out some recommendations might be handy. As for my musical taste... as far as genres, nothing's really off the table. I'm not a big fan of Rap, but there are exceptions of coarse. I think the Bluegrass-Rap that opens up the series Justified is brilliant. I love, love, love great female vocalist. So I was trying to look up a recent purchase -- Prokofiev "premiere" recording of Queen of Spades with On Guard for Piece -- and I wandered over to their website which led me to their online store, which appears to sell (in British Pounds Sterling) lossless audio. Anyone know what resolution theirs are at? I see "24/96" on the corresponding CD page of most recordings that interest me, but the CD's are obviously not 24/96, and I see nothing on the audio download page.

I've read that the early CD RCA issues are supposed to be the best, but I believe I've only heard that version of Low. The recent EMI 24 Bit versions sound terrible. And the Ryko discs are really wonky, some tracks sound ok, others sound terrible, and others have strange frequency anomalies. Anyone else care to weigh in?

Do you guys still find bargains on used music? After spending a while in NYC and Boston it seems most places priced the good stuff at Ebay or higher prices. And the local stores in my area now basically stock crap that has a nice fine line of dust on it. I think I'm going to all the wrong places

I think anyone that likes kraut rock should give this a listen. Like Amon Duul or Can on steroids (or more drugs). This is one of my favorite albums in the last few years. ...just looking at the album art you know this is going to be some crazy drugged out Germans making crazy drugged out music. Originally released in 1972, came back in print with Garden of Delights in Germany. Also available on vinyl (kinda pricey). The entire album is 10 tracks of progressive kraut, a pretty good rollercoaster of music. It has a great sound, more of an old schoolish dance/industrial feel, with some effects thrown in reminiscent of TDS-era NIN. Is it worth picking up all of them in this box? Amazon.com: Mozart The Symphonies: Sir Charles Mackerras, Mozart: Music The price is certainly right. Apparently its a cheaper version of a more expensive box. Not sure what the packaging is like.

Worthy of picking up. Much improved instrument presentation and "crispiness" of the sound. Good re-master. Haven't listen to the bonus material, including the second CD of live at the Elyse'e. Will report back once I listen to everything.

I don't have the words to describe how excited I am after hearing this... Sounds new and fresh and I can't f'ing wait!

SXSW is happening next week (along with the beginning of the F1 season!) and considering how freakin many great sounds will be happening there, NPR has done us a fantastic service and given us a sampler of what to keep any ear open for.
