I've already reinstalled the DVD drive, followed the instructions from this site http://sniptools.com/tipstricks/getting-back-to-dma-mode-in-windows-xp and followed microsoft's recommendation (set drive options to "PIO only", then back to "DMA if available" again), repeatedly. and its still stuck in PIO mode :< HELP

Hi all, I have recently been optimizing my laptop for better performance. At the onset, I reinstalled Windows (Vista Business 32bit) sans bloatware using two partitions, planning to put the OS and programs on the C:/ partition and all data on the D:/ partition. I noticed that I only had the option for giving the C:/ partition 60% of my 160GB drive. I figured this must have been necessary, but this turned out to be far from the case. The partition is not even half full, and I don't plan to install too many new programs in the future, maybe 5-10GB more at the most, so I don't need 40GB of free space. I'm looking to add an arduino to control my dac. I'm not worried so much about writing code as that's already done and proven to work for others. This whole platform is new to me. I can see that the initial scrpt or program is the .ino file and that will contain commands as well as references to libraries but I'm not sure how to put this altogether in Arduino IDE to upload it to the Arduino Due. I have a Sesonic X750 GOLD 750W PSU that I purchased from NewEgg exactly 2 years ago tomorrow. It stayed in its box until I finally in late 2013. My motherboard is an Asus Sabertooth Z87. Six times over as many days, I've had a panic reboot with the BIOS reporting an error message that the system had automatically restarted because excessively high voltage coming from the PSU. It then prompts me to go in to BIOS and make any necessary changes. I have not made any changes as I don't know what is wrong. These reboots have happened in groups. I have an AGP (yes, it's old) video card with dual DVI outputs. Currently, I only have one working monitor. Are the the outputs on AGP and PCI video card standardized with regard to the location of monitor one and two in Windoes? i.e. is the left DVI out (when looking at the back of the card) always monitor one? Unfortunately, I am not in a position to test this myself. I need the one working monitor I have to be monitor one on the first boot in this instance.

My dad is in need for a simple back-up solution and a wireless base station. I only found the time capsule as an all-in-one solution. Is really Apple the only producer of such a box? I'm contemplating an update for my PC. A new quad core/mobo/video card would comprise most of the updating, but new HDs and two new Blu-ray burners might be in the scope. That is if there's some reliable Blu-ray copying software available. I like the idea of making copies of my favorite Blu-ray movies. Anyone have any experience with Blu-ray copying yet?

A work colleague is travelling to the US in a couple of weeks and is spending a few days in NYC. She has been considering to purchase a new iPhone there since even getting a "free" model capable of working on any phone service provider, she'd be saving like $200-300. I need migrate a domain on a Windows Server 2003 domain controller to Windows Server 2012. Has anyone done this successfully?

I am looking for a small, relatively inexpensive, VPN router box for a small office. Does anyone have a suggestion of where to look? Budget is a few hundred dollars -- more than a cheapo consumer model, less than an enterprise level box. Ability to be configured by an idiot who doesn't know much about this stuff (i.e. me) would be most helpful. Sonicwall is the name that keeps popping up, but I am not sure if that is the right solution or not. Anyone know of a utility that can reset a USB port? Occasionally I will plug something into one of the keyboard ports that draws too much power and it will be disabled. I've also had the front USB port (PowerMac dual G5) be disabled (not sure what one of the kids did to this ), but a restart cleared it.

Anyone have experience with the Sewell 16ft extender or recommended another cheap alternative? Debating about switching to a USB DAC solution for a largish space (instead of Squeezebox).

I would like to install Windows on an external hard drive and run via boot camp on my iMac so that Yumi can run Autocad Architecture on it (her computer is dying). I assume that thunderbolt is fast enough that I won't see any difference between running it on an external drive vs my main HD. Is that true? Can you recommend a reliable and fast HD that runs has thunderbolt connection?

Just as an FYI... there is significant clipping/static/popping when using USB audio devices on the new iMac with Fusion drives. Some have had success in eliminating the issue by breaking up the drive group, however this then defeats the purpose of buying the drive. I recommend avoiding the iMac if you intend on using USB DACs until this issue is resolved.

trying to get google voice set up so i can make phone calls from my computer. using windows 7 64 bit. the thinkpad has built in mics which sucks so i am trying to use a zalman mic that i have been using for the past 7 years without issue. i can use the mic in ventrilo (skype like program gamers use) and it works just fine so hardware is fine. current set up is as follows. usb - gamma 2 - crack - 650s (for hearing) zalman mic - thinkpad combo jack (same jack for headphones and mic) built in mics are muted. built in volume control is muted. when i go into volume control settings i only see the settings for the built in mic. when i go into google voice settin…

Quick (doubtless dumb) question. Why don't my per-application access settings seem to "stick"? Let's say I want iTunes to accept incoming connections -- I go into system preferences/firewall and add it to the approved list. Because I'm not routinely running as an administrator, it will ask me to authenticate before making the change. Fine. But then, every time I restart iTunes it will still prompt me to approve an incoming connection and require me to authenticate yet again. This is tiresome. What am I missing?
