OK, my chassis is finished. (My homage to Steampunk.) Just DON'T remind me how long this has taken! A few minor tweeks, including tightening the legs up, then I can start soldering. Another 6 months maybe?? No point rushing these things, and, to be fair, I'm only after that longest build prize. @dmkbox No, this is not a kit! I forgot I was playing Todd this week - I shouldn't have bothered setting up my lineup.3 points

We're going to make some chicken, fried green tomatoes, creamed spinach, and maybe biscuits or corn bread later. Any inspiration there?3 points

We got to go up and visit with the new dog again today. She's due in late November, and since we're going to take both her and the one puppy, we will actually be able to bring them home closer to Christmas than late January like we had thought. It's still going to be tough to wait, but she's a sweet dog and it'll be worth it.2 points

I'd check with apple about the battery tho, too. They're pretty good about replacing bulging batteries and they're pretty reasonable for repairs like that, as well.1 point

You have received excellent advice, and batteries are not fungible components. OWC and iFixit are the ne plus ultra in this category, especially because of the wonderful videos they produce, which show your specific machine and the parts they sent you being installed in it. There are not many things in this world on which I may speak with authority, but I was an Apple genius and repaired Apple devices 9-5 for months. iFixit and OWC have parts equivalent or identical to Apple's own replacement parts, and I would occasionally watch their videos at work if I hadn't done a particular repair in a while. We had them bookmarked in the Genius Bar.1 point

I'm not sure if they ship internationally, but I trust Other World Computing for stuff like this. Their advice has always been spot on and you can order through Amazon. One of the main things I like about them is the site has specific threads you follow for the exact model you have. Always be sure to order according to the model listed in System Profile. Even if you don't buy from them, their instruction videos are foolproof. http://www.macsales.com/1 point

I say go for it if it makes you happy. There's no end to the debate about relative value -- only you can decide what's worth it to you. Also kind of like the idea of a megabucks DAC in a headphone rig.1 point

If I was going to spend $30K+ on a front end, it would not be digital. Just sayin'1 point

I had the best week of my season, and Tood still would have beat me. It feels like he drafted alone for three or four rounds before the rest of us started. That said, this week's unexpected podium position belongs to Brent, who doubtless spent all his fantasy capital for the rest of the season on a single game.1 point

Congrats, Royals! If it couldn't be one of my bay area teams I'm happy it was you guys!1 point

Looks like you’ve made your mind up and won’t be changed. You’ve let us know how your system has evolved and that you’ll be purchasing a CH Precision DAC, and that it’s problematic expense for yourself, but will not look at other DACs. I’m happy to offer advice, I’m sure other more knowledgeable people here would chip in as well, but if you’re not willing to consider other alternatives and have made your mind up there is no point. Part of the reason I’m involved in this community is the researching and understanding of real world performance from gear that offers value for money, whilst avoiding over priced products and snake oil in general. I’m a little bewilded as to why you’ve started this thread in the first place? I just don’t see the point, or am I missing something here? Somehow I don’t think the paupers around these parts are going to be indulging.1 point

Having a highly resolving system can be your worst enemy or best friend, the balance hangs with both system synergy and personal preference. You may very well have been chasing your tail with tube replacements band-aiding a source which may not have been to your taste. The BHSE (SED winged C’s) and 009’s are my current reference, my preference is for a source on the warm/lush side of neutral, I suspect the K-01 may lend it self to an analytical detailed presentation from reading many of your posts? I’ve not had any experience with the CH Precision C1 DAC, but it’s a departure in implementation from the K-01, being an R2R vs DS and if you believe the hype this may need to be something you need to investigate. Dave I recommend investigating all other available options, don’t get tunnel visioned into this one almighty purchase, DACs tend to depreciate sooner than other audio investments, so factor that in, come 3 years there may very well be a $2,299 DAC lapping at the heels of the CH Precision C1.1 point

The price is retarded and having Jude try and shill them is just sad. Well not for Jude as we all know he's a cunt but rather for Shure as they might have something good here. The amp has to be better than the POS KingSound are calling a portable amplifier... I do feel the sudden urge to make a super tiny KGSSHV and throw some batteries and a couple of DC to DC converters on it.1 point
