$2200 + market rate for wood more exotic that what I can get at the local wood store. Things are available basically whenever - I decided that there was no way to compete with the Schiits of the world and I never really made enough of anything to benefit from economies of scale, so everything is bespoke. Depending upon complexity and how busy things are, that usually means 6 to 8 weeks.4 points

Chris, Speed is regulated by your right foot and there's no appreciable difference between the RS and ST their ability to rapidly proceed beyond the posted limit if that's what your foot tells it to do. I'd argue the RS might be the safer choice, actually, since the AWD will be far more able to put power down (feeding via 4 wheels) than the ST. That's the talk that I'd have with her if it were me.3 points

My plan is for it to be my daily driver on most days. I figured it will be fun at 0530 when I'm on my way to work and there is no traffic and very few police. My driveway apron is pretty steep so that's a concern but there is also a lot of street parking, other RS have been reasonable for clearance height. She'll be sitting outdoors too (my garage is for bikes and strollers). I really doubt I will not enjoy it as a DD but if it does start to feel that way I will probably just sell it (and take the kick in the teeth), there's a local guy who DD's an STI and has car seats in the back, he's my inspiration (though I don't know him). I'm years away from being able to rally cross or autocross on a regular basis.3 points

I just realized that. I guess I should've looked more carefully before posting.3 points

^ I think you have someone local that would enjoy polishing some wood and playing with nuts and rods for you.2 points

Can you post a pic of it, CJ? I'd love to see what he cooked up for you. My post was actually in jest. Doug has had something cooking for me for a while now that I'm looking forward to finally taking delivery of next week.2 points

^^ What he said, there's only one way to plug the cords in on the BHSE, Shelly. There is also a key (and matching slot) on each connector receptacle pair so you can't get it wrong unless you apply serious anger and break something.2 points

Dealer has decided to be nice matched a good price from a different dealer and is willing to put the deposit towards it with no loss. Decision time tonight.1 point

I made a rack very much like this many years back, with white top laminated MDF shelves. I added plastic washers so the nuts wouldn't mark the shelves as badly. I also only used 3 rods, as I liked the tripod balancing (and less holes to drill); even though the back rod would in theory be in the way of the wires, it wasn't bad at all. I did end up putting foam pipe wraps around the back rod, though, so wires wouldn't rub and scratch on the threading. All in all, was not that difficult to do! Gave it away when I moved to our new house, but often thought about making another......1 point

flexy, yes. The salamander is a commercial flexy rack. I have built a few.1 point

Just get the RS. Just tell the wife that the Mexican will buy an RS and live in it, just to have something you can't. **BRENT**1 point

As a local you can also very easily be required to spend some time in jail for speeding. No idea why this stupid state is so fucked up with speeding, but we go to Maryland to drive fast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

From the video, he basically says the modded HD800 is better than HD800S, IF you EQ extra bass in since it is lacking. If you don't want to mod, the HD800S is the way to go, but has bass distortion which warms it up. Whereas, the HD800 with EQ'd bass has more clarity or something like that.1 point

Check out his full review that I linked above and it'll make sense. It is well written and absolutely worth a read.1 point

That band is my guilty pleasure. I'm a sucker for vocal harmony and Lindsay's smooth, polished production in the studio.1 point

I recently cut my hair really short, it doesn't take nary a minute or two to finish drying. They literally cook wood on guitars, but those are woods like maple and mahogany, not sure what it would do to MDF.1 point

It's dry and I'm listening. Maybe I should shave my head so I don't have to wait in the future. I have had the BHSE on for several hours and I noticed that the underside of the top shelf is really warm (the shelf above is only about 3/4" above the BHSE). Can a lot of heat make the shelf above become weaker (so that it cannot handle as much weight without cracking/collapsing). I was trying to avoid putting the BHSE on the top shelf because of fine white dust in the apartment. I don't really have much on the shelf right now but might but the BHSE on it in the future if I buy another place without concrete ceilings.1 point

You are all too nice It is about 9.5" x 6.25" x 2.25". Input is USB (using the Amanero USB card) and output is transformer coupled and XLR only (because of the transformers, using XLR to RCA converters does not change or diminish the signal). It uses the Wolfson WM8741 with my output stage which is basically the same circuit as the DSHA. The model is the Walnut v5 DAC.1 point

I just got everything setup and then took a shower - now I have to wait for the hair to dry to listen. :(1 point

On the Nate bhse, it only works one way. There is a male and female end. If it is the same on both ends I'm not sure how it could be directional.1 point

As someone who basically gave Doug all creative control with the requirement of the amp being quiet with jh16s, I was more than ecstatic to receive the custom amp Doug built for me. He does good work It sounds great but is also pretty to look at. Understated effortless elegance was how Julie described it. I'd agree with her. Can't go wrong with something from Doug1 point
